EHR Market Share Data AmericanEHR Partners is an online community dedicated to supporting adoption, use, and optimization of electronic health records (EHRs). Launched in July 2010, AmericanEHR Partners collects and presents real-time satisfaction rating data from physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners on all nationally certified ambulatory EHR products. Registration for the AmericanEHR Partners is free and access to the satisfaction data is available to all registered users. The survey was done in collaboration with the American Academy of Allergy Asthma & Immunology, American College of Physicians, American Osteopathic Association of Medical Informatics, Infectious Disease Society of America, and Renal Physicians Association. Market share data presented in this report are not intended to represent the entire EHR market. This information is provided as a guide to vendor and product adoption based upon survey information collected between April 2010 and July 2011. For a detailed description of the survey methodology and additional survey findings, please download the companion report www.americanehr.com/reports released concomitantly with this one and available through the AmericanEHR Partners site (free registration required). The report is titled, The Correlation of Training Duration with EHR Usability and Satisfaction: Implications for Meaningful Use. A Report from AmericanEHR Partners. Based upon the survey responses received by AmericanEHR Partners, products from 10 EHR vendors accounted for 75% of the overall responses to the survey. When sorted by EHR product, 10 EHR products accounted for 68% of the responses. 83% of responses from practices of 11+ clinicians were from users of 10 EHR products. 17% of responses were submitted for the remaining 42 EHR products rated in this category. 60% of responses from practices of 1 3 clinicians were from users of 10 EHR products. These results suggest that the EHR marketplace for large practices is focused on a narrower selection of products in contrast to diversity of EHRs being used in small practices. Top 10 Rated Products for Practice Sizes AmericanEHR Partners uses a 139-question online survey to collect data on clinicians (Physicians, NPs, and PAs) use and satisfaction with EHRs and health information technology. The survey uses skip logic to present individuals with the questions that are most relevant to them, and takes an average of 20 minutes to complete. A subset of 83 survey questions is used to generate a 12-category satisfaction score for each EHR product. Certain questions have been excluded from the satisfaction scores because either the data or the question format was not relevant. These include: Product information (e.g. product name, version number, date of first use) Functionality or services not yet widely utilized (e.g. public health reporting activities) Factual questions (e.g. number of additional interfaces) Narrative responses Each EHR product receives ratings in each of 12 categories and may be a high-performer in one or more categories. AmericanEHR does not calculate a single rating for each EHR product given the variability in ratings across the categories for many EHRs. This provides potential purchasers with tailored information to help select the most appropriate EHR product for their needs. Table 1 lists the 12 question categories and corresponding number of questions used to generate a satisfaction score for each category.
