Probationary: In order to assess the quality and delivery of an educational program, the CMA Conjoint Accreditation Service requires the program to be running and have students enrolled during the accreditation process. The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program at the Canadian National Institute of Health is a Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities approved program until it obtains accreditation status from the Canadian Medical Association (CMA). 2012-13 ENROLLMENT PACKAGE Diagnostic medical sonography (also known as diagnostic ultrasound technology) is a dynamic medical imaging profession. It involves scanning the human body with high frequency sound and plays a critical role within the health care system by providing physicians with key information that enables the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of conditions. A sonographer, uses a number of imaging procedures to facilitate the observation of body organs, tissues and blood flow for the identification and assessment of a variety of medical conditions. In order to become a sonographer in Canada, it is necessary to pass a certifying exam through the Canadian Association of Registered Diagnostic Ultrasound Professionals (CARDUP). A diagnostic medical sonographer works as a member of the health care team to facilitate diagnoses and contribute to overall care. The sonographer performs ultrasound examinations, which can be done on almost every area of the body. Areas of particular interest include the abdomen, the pregnant and non-pregnant female pelvis, the vascular system, and the heart. One of the most fascinating uses of diagnostic ultrasound is the examination and evaluation of the fetus. This program is designed to prepare the student for employment as a diagnostic medical sonographer (generalist). The sonographer will become skilled through academic and clinical training to perform ultrasound examinations under the supervision of a qualified physician. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES FOR A DIAGNOSTIC MEDICAL SONOGRAPHER GENERALLY INCLUDE: Performing diagnostic scanning procedures; Patient care; DIAGNOSTIC MEDICAL SONOGRAPHY Creating technical reports and consultation with other health professionals REQUIREMENTS FOR A CAREER AS A SONOGRAPHER: A high degree of technical skills; Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; Ability to problem solve in a clinical environment; Excellent hand-eye coordination; and Strength, especially in the upper body and back.

Their expert advice will make the process a breeze. ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS High School Diploma or equivalent English, Grade 12 (or equivalent with a grade of 60% or higher). If English is the second language for the applicant, a test of English as a foreign language score must be provided: TOEFL, IELTS or CAEL score or other standard English test score (with a grade of 60% or higher) Mathematics, Grade 12 with a minimum of 70% or higher Biology, Grade 12 (or equivalent with a grade of 70% or higher) Physics Grade 12 (or equivalent with a grade of 70% or higher) Admission Entrance Exam (covering English, Math, Chemistry, Biology and Spatial Reasoning) Interview ADMISSIONS PROCESS Required to apply: 1) Completed application form (attached) 2) Copy of transcripts To become enrolled: 3) Write entrance exam (with a grade of 60% or higher). Note: $150.00 examination fee to be paid prior to testing. 4) Interview with Office of Admissions Required 30 days prior to first day of class: 1) A physician s note (attached) 2) A police records check for service with the vulnerable sector (please provide a copy)* Agencies that provide placement opportunities require you to have a clear Police Records Check for Service with the Vulnerable Sector (PRCSVS). It is your responsibility to obtain the PRCSVS from your local Police Department prior to the deadline identified by your Department and to pay any associated costs. It may take a long time to obtain this documentation; please submit your application as early as possible. 3) A Standard First-Aid / CPR Basic Rescuer Level C certification (please provide a copy)* * Must maintain current certification throughout the 20 month Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.

2012-13 ENROLLMENT PACKAGE TUITION Tuition Fees Choosing to get an education is one of the most important decisions anyone can make. Planning ahead is equally important in a student s journey. We ve put together cost of attendance in order to help students calculate costs and plan ahead. The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program all inclusive tuition fee is $40,180.00 for students in 2012. This tuition fee includes textbooks, supplies and uniforms. The majority of all fees are eligible for tuition tax credits. The total fee may be paid in 3 installments. First - A seat deposit of $4,000.00 is required to reserve your seat. This payment is due within 30 days after receiving an Offer of Admission letter and package from CNIH. Second - The first half tuition payment ($16,450.00) is due 30 days prior to the start of your program. Third - Your final tuition paid in 12 equal installments of ($1507.50) is due on the first of every month. Cost of Attendance include the following components: The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program all inclusive tuition fee is $40,180.00 for students in 2012. The breakdown of these fees include the following: Tuition and Fees: $38,000.00 Books: $1,650.00 Expendable Supplies: $180.00 Uniforms and Equipment: $350.00 $40,180.00 Students are expected to spend 8 months in a clinical practicum in a variety of locations. CNIH will make every attempt to locate students in placements of their choosing. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from placements and for the costs of relocation including travel and accommodation. FINANCING CNIH is not affiliated with Provincial or Federal Student Loan programs, however, we have an excellent business relationship with the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) where they offer a Students Professional Designation Program to finance your education. The RBC Royal Bank Credit Line for Students Professional Designation Program offers students pursuing select degrees the flexibility of a revolving credit facility with greater limit than a traditional Student Credit Line. The following program, designed especially for students of the Canadian National Institute of Health enrolled in the Dental Hygiene Program provides the funding needed to complete the program with minimal interest costs while offering adaptable payment schedule and convenient access to funds.

2012-13 ENROLLMENT PACKAGE LEARNING FACILITIES CNIH is an 11,847 sq/ft facility that has been designed for teaching, laboratory, simulation and clinical activities. Low student to resource ratios ensure adequate physical facilities, faculty members, support staff, equipment, clients and patients for knowledge and skill development. The classroom and theory portions of the programs are held in three (3) classrooms, a library and computer lab which totals approximately 5,500 sq/ft. This student space is complimented by a large student lounge (with refrigerators, microwaves and other kitchen facilities) and a public cafeteria in the building. Lab and clinical activities are held in the remaining space. This space includes: Ultrasound Lab with 4 scanning bays. Multi-purpose lab Sterilization area and clinical supplies dispensary.
