ASIAN AMERICAN ARCHITECTS AND ENGINEERS FOUNDATION OVERVIEW OF STUDENT LOAN SUPPORT GRANT PROGRAM 1. Objective: The Asian American Architects/Engineers Association (AAa/e) () is committed to the empowerment of design professionals in personal growth, professional excellence, business development, and leadership in our communities. The Asian American Architects and Engineers Foundation (AAa/e Foundation) was created in 2004 as a branch of the AAa/e to better support the efforts of the AAa/e in seeking additional means of fundraising for scholarships. The AAa/e Foundation is a 501C3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing opportunities and scholarships for students and other individuals in the profession of architecture, engineering or construction. The purpose of the Student Loan Support Grant Program is to provide encouragement and financial support for professionals excelling in their field of architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, or construction, who have completed their degree programs and who otherwise may not had the opportunity to previously participate in the AAa/e Foundation Scholarship Program or if they have previously participated, to continue the AAa/e Foundation support for them. This special award is targeted at recognizing excellence in individuals in the AEC profession and empowering them by specifically assisting with outstanding student loans. 2. Qualifications: A. Must be a member of AAa/e. (apply online at and click on Membership ) Excludes current AAa/e Foundation Board Member, Association Board Member, and/or scholarship judges. B. Must be nominated by a member of AAa/e. C. Individual will have demonstrated a measurable level of involvement and/or service to the Asian/Pacific Islander community and/or AAa/e (Please express in personal statement). D. Individual must be a U.S. Permanent Resident or U.S. Citizen with an outstanding student loan (proof shall be submitted upon request) E. Individual must demonstrate involvement in the profession of one of the following fields: 1. Architecture. 2. Engineering: Civil (Environmental, Geotechnical, Structural, Transportation) Electrical, and Mechanical. 3. Landscape Architecture or Planning and Urban Design. 4. Construction/Construction Management F. Must have not previously received this award. G. Award recipients are required to be present at the press conference and Awards Banquet (on Thursday, October 1, ) to accept their awards and are expected to provide their own transportation to the dinner location. H. Award recipient must be available to participate in filming for a short video clip to be shown at the Awards Banquet. Date of filming TBD. No exceptions will be made. 3. Submittal Requirements: A complete application package includes the following which will be further described: A. AAa/e Student Loan Support Grant Applicant Data form B. Personal Statement C. Two (2) Letters of Recommendation D. Resume E. Copy of Outstanding Student Loan Submission will be accepted either hard copies via mail or electronic file via e-mail. For hard copies sent via mail, please submit all material bound together. Some options include 3-ring binders, comb binding, a stapled package, etc. For electronic files sent via e-mail, please reference AAa/e Foundation Scholarship Application in the Subject line. Only word files and pdf files will be accepted. Please note that all electronic submittals will be reviewed in 8.5 x11 or 11 x17 prints. A. Describe your interest in the field of architecture, engineering, or construction. Describe how this award will benefit you. C. Two (2) Letters of Recommendation Letters may be written from faculty members of your respective school or employers/licensed professional from your industry-related job experience. Letter of recommendation may be written by the person who nominated you. D. Resume (1) One page maximum typewritten E. Copy of Outstanding Student Loan Necessary to demonstrate proof of the student loan. Must provide address where a remittance can be sent to. 4. Due Date: Submittal package must be e-mailed or postmarked on or before Friday May 29th,, at 4:00 pm. If the applicant chooses to mail the submittal package, it must be received within 2 weeks after the deadline. Submittal instructions and due date for recommendation letters are included in Section 3.C. Letters of Recommendations 30% iii. Nomination 10% iv. Membership Years 10% A judging criteria sheet has been attached for your reference. Decisions made by the Scholarship Committee shall be final and shall be awarded at the complete discretion of the Foundation. 6. Award Date: Final Decisions will be made, and applicants notified by the beginning of September. Awards will be presented at the AAa/e Anniversary Awards Dinner on Thursday, October 1,. Award recipients are required to be present at the awards dinner to accept their awards and are expected to provide their own transportation to the dinner location. Dinner itself will be complimentary.
7. Other Information: A. Exact dollar amount of awards are subject to the availability of funds and the discretion of the AAa/e Foundation and its judges. B. The awardee is responsible for all taxes, etc. and other costs of the submittal. C. The awardee agrees by participating in the short video clip that the video clip becomes property of AAa/e. D.
