Introduction CDR Dicom for Windows is designed as a fully functional DICOM (Digital Imaging Communications of Medicine) based client-server application. The client application can, in theory, communicate with any standard DICOM server to store and retrieve image data. This implies that the PACS server could simply replace the CDRServer. DICOM Conformance statements are available for both the CDRServer and CDRClient applications. PACS Upon initial installation and configuration, the PACS system may not support DICOM Query and Retrieve services. Therefore, CDR cannot be used to retrieve images from the DICOM server. In order to provide a stop gap until PACS supports query and retrieve, a site may elect to store image data on both the PACS server and the CDRServer. Then, images may be retrieved for display using the CDRServer. Version 3.0.0.1031 and above can be modified to accomplish this task. CDR Dicom for Windows and PACS Communication Workflow 1

Requirements It is preferred that the CDRServer, PACS server and Client Workstations be on static IP addresses. If an IP address should change on a PACS or CDRServer, then the workstation setup may need to be modified, and workstations re-registered with the PACS and CDRServer software. If a workstation s IP address changes, it will need to be removed and re-registered with the PACS and CDRServer software. PACS Server and Modality Worklist information must be provided by the office, IT person or PACS software support. Configuring Workstations for PACS Communication with CDR Dicom for Windows Version 4.5 1. To open the CDR Settings Editor, go to Start Programs CDR Dicom for Windows CDR Settings Editor. 2. Browse to the Software Schick Technologies, Inc. CDR Data directory. 3. Right-click on Library and choose Modify Setting. 2

4. Change the Value from CDRDataDB to be CDRDataDICOM and click OK. 5. The setting should now show as updated. Click File Save Formatted. 6. You will get a confirmation that the settings have been saved. Click OK. 7. Open CDR Dicom for Windows (Start Programs CDR Dicom for Windows CDR Dicom for Windows). 8. Go to System Database Options. 3

9. Click the Insert/Modify button. 10. Insert the settings for the CDR Dicom for Windows Server. a. Remote Title: CDRServer. b. Local Title: The computer name of the CDR Dicom for Windows Server. c. IP Address: The IP Address of the CDR Dicom for Windows Server. d. Port: 1004. e. Keep the box checked for Supports CDR ViewSets. f. Click OK. 11. Click off the CDRServer listing so it is not highlighted. Click the Insert/Modify button a second time. 4

12. Insert the information for the PACS Server. a. This information must ALL be provided by the office, IT Person, or their PACS software support department. b. Typically, the PACS software does not support CDR ViewSets, so this box would normally need to be unchecked. c. Click OK. 13. You may also add a Modality Worklist Server. a. Modality Worklist (MWL) also can be known as an RIS (Radiology Information System) b. The MWL server (or RIS) provides the patient information or scheduling details to the Imaging software. Then the PACS stores the images. c. MWL or RIS setups are unusual and typically only found in large facilities or hospitals. They are not supported in CDR Dicom for Windows, but we do leave the option available. d. All information to insert the Worklist Server must be provided by the office, IT Person, or their Worklist software support department. e. Click OK. 5

14. For each server you insert, you can select it at the top and verify that it communicates. 15. Select the Default (Storage) Server. Typically, this is your CDRServer. 16. Select the Second Storage Server. Typically, this is your PACS server. 17. Select your Worklist Server if you have one. 18. Select the Query/Retrieve Server. This is also typically the CDRServer. 19. Once this is setup, click on the Local tab. 6

20. The IP and Computer Name should automatically be detected (this is the workstation name). You will need to enter the Workstation Title (this can be the computer name or IP address of the workstation) and the Server Title (CDRServer) and then click Self Register. 21. You will get a confirmation message that this workstation has been registered with the server. Click OK. 22. To verify that the PACS is working, open the CDR Data Administration Utility (Start Programs CDR Dicom for Windows CDR Data Administration Utility). 23. Select an Exam or a Patient and click on them to highlight. 24. Go to File Send to Remote Server. 7

25. Choose the Remote Server AE Title from the drop-down (typically the PACS server) and the Local AE Title, Remote IP Address and Remote Port should automatically fill in. 26. Click Verify. 27. If it verifies successfully, click Send. 28. If you obtain no errors and the progress bar completes successfully, the CDR Dicom for Windows setup for PACS has been successful. 8
