Overview CMPRO Change Notice New Software License Tracking Screens The Software License module is designed to track software licenses that have been authorized for issue as part of a software application. Software is tracked by the hardware on which it is installed, including the license used (and key where needed) when a copy of that software is issued. The Software License module distributes each copy of the authorized software via a license, which can then be tracked in the As-Built module. Licenses no longer used can be returned, making them available for re-issue. The Software License module replaces the current Available Licenses functionality on the Software Repository Detail screen. Details Licensing information for a Software Repository record can be set up directly from its Detail screen using the links provided in the left pane. This action can also be initiated from the Menu using the Software Configuration Management section. Select the Software License Tracking option. The number of software license copies to be issued is entered on the Software License Tracking Create screen, along with license key requirements, if they exist. Each copy is then issued from the detail screen (licenses can also be issued from the Software License Copies screen). Upon issue, each license copy is tracked using an As-Built record. The software number is used as the As-Built s part number, while the UNID of the software license copy record becomes the As- Built s serial number. If the license is later returned (making it available for re-issue), the current As-Built record is moved to history and a new placeholder As-Built record is created. The value in the Location field for this placeholder record is IN SOFTWARE LICENSE TRACKING. In the event that the license is re-issued, the placeholder record is then updated.
