President s Corner Welcome to the 2006 NACMPA Dinner Meeting!! We are pleased to bring you course meals from LAM S GARDEN CHINESE RESTAURANT under the direction of Jie Shi, PhD (our local organizer) and our executive committee members. An excellent course meal has been prepared with a good meeting agenda to follow (see pages 8 & 9 for the meeting program). NACMPA has made significant progress in recent years. These include the issuance of plaques to officially recognize the contributions of past officers, initiation of the dinner program booklet, and actively participating in international workshops including the 2004 Chengdu Workshop (China), and 2004 Bangkok Workshop (Thailand). This year, NACMPA is co-sponsoring the International Congress of Medical Physics meeting in Hangzhou, China (Sept 3-6, 2006). Our association is able to provide 8 travel awards to its members for traveling to the meeting at Hangzhou. NACMPA also participates in the AAPM electronic Partners-in-Physics program (epip) by awarding up to 15 recipients per year. Other ongoing projects include the upgrading our NACMPA website and incorporation of the NACMPA. If you have time or ideas and would like to volunteer, please let me know. Have a good time!! Cheng B. As like last year, the meeting will be held in a local Chinese restaurant. It provides the opportunities for the attendees to meet old friends and make new friends. SPONSORED PROGRAMS (Continued) Website Project (www.nacmpa.org) As you all know, our association has our own active website to provide information to our members regarding the latest news on the various activities. Our website was in existence since 1998. In 2004, our domain name nacmpa.org was registered. This summer, the website is being upgraded to be more user friendly with the ability for registration of membership and also to upgrade profiles. The association has hired a consultant to create the necessary pages to allow persons interested to apply for new membership input personally information online, to make modification to the information on database, and to query the database for public information of other NACMPA members. In addition, our website will have automated capabilities to aid officers to send group emails to selected members. Active members will be able to change password and also to have password emailed to him/her if it is lost. The database would also be able to accept member s name in Chinese. Please watch your email for announcement of the deployment date. Meanwhile please complete a new member application form if you have not been receiving email announcements of the annual meeting. SPONSORED PROGRAM Hangzhou Meeting (2006) The International Congress of Medical Physics meeting to be held at Hangzhou, China on September 3-6, 2006 is sponsored by the NACMPA, AAPM Asian Oceanic Affairs Subcommittee, and Chinese Society of Medical Physics (CSMP). The aim of this meeting is to bring together the planned participants of the Chinese Society of Radiation Oncology (CSRO) Radiation Physics Committee and participants of the World Congress in Korea to the scenic water front conference center in Hangzhou, China. There are planned refresher courses, invited talks, and also oral scientific sessions. The meeting will also address imaging issues related to IMRT and IGRT. Travel Award (2006) For the first time, NACMPA has issued travel awards to support its members to attend the International Congress of Medical Physics in Hangzhou, China. The recipients were determined based on the abstracted submitted and evaluated in a double-blind fashion by NACMPA members who have not interest in the award. In addition, NACMPA also supported invited speakers. The amount of each travel award is $800. The recipients of the travel awards were Ying Xiao, PhD, Hua Shao, PhD, Jinsheng Li, PhD, Tianfang Li, PhD, Jeff Yue, PhD, Andrew Wu, PhD, and Fang-Fang Yin, PhD. Partners-In-Physics Program NACMPA participates in the epartner s in Physics (epip) program of the AAPM. In this program, NACMPA will pay AAPM membership dues for medical physicists in Asia. The recipients will have access to the AAPM website, electronic Medical Physics Journal, Physics Today, and various Task Group Reports, and publications. By sponsoring, NACMPA attempts to develop a professional relationship between the recipient and the association. Medical Physicists in developing countries may apply by obtaining the application form at http://www.aapm.org/memb/ pip.application.pdf and additional information about the program. After sending the application to the AAPM, the applicant should also inform NACMPA of their intent via email to President, NACMPA at nacmpa2005@yahoo.com.
