After a postponement for the home-opener, a change of location for the second home game and a two-day delay for the third scheduled home contest, LSU will finally play in Tiger Stadium on Monday night, hosting 10th-ranked at 6:4. The game will be televised to a national audience by ESPN2. LSU opened its season two weeks ago with a 35-31 come-from-behind win over Arizona State in Tempe. Originally, LSU was scheduled to host on Sept. 3 and then Arizona State on Sept. 10 in Tiger Stadium. However, Hurricane Katrina forced the Tigers to reschedule the game and then LSU shifted its contest against Arizona State to Tempe. Hurricane Rita then forced a two-day delay of the LSU- contest. So, eight months and 23 days after being hired as LSU s head coach, Les Miles will finally coach his first game in Tiger Stadium. The Tigers will bring a 1-0 mark into the game, while the Vols are 1-1 overall and 0-1 in league play following a 16-7 setback to last week. The Vols opened their season with a 17-10 victory over UAB. LSU will carry a 10-game home winning streak into the contest. A year ago, the Tigers were a perfect 7-0 after winning their last three home games in 2003. LSU last lost in Tiger Stadium in 2003 when posted a 19-7 victory on Oct. 11. The 10-game home winning streak is the longest in the SEC and the sixth-longest nationally. LSU has also won six straight SEC home games (all 4 in 2004, last 2 in 2003), a streak that dates back to a 31-7 win over on Oct. 25, 2003. Trailing 17-7 early in the fourth quarter, LSU DT Claude Wroten blocked a 47-yard field goal attempt and DB Mario Stevenson scooped up the ball and returned it 55-yards for a TD to pull the Tigers to within 17-14. On ASU's next possession, the Tigers blocked a punt and S Craig Steltz picked up the block and returned it 29-yards for a score, giving LSU a 21-17 advantage with 13:27 to play. The lead went back-and-forth over the eight minutes before ASU grabbed a 31-28 advantage with 4:07 to play. JaMarcus Russell then guided the Tigers on a 10-play, 91-yard drive capped with a 39-yard TD pass to Early Doucet on a fourth-and- 10 situation for the Tigers. Les Miles HEAD COACH FIRST YEAR Les Miles, the 2002 Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year and former assistant with Michigan, Colorado and the Dallas Cowboys who built Oklahoma State into a force in the Big 12, became LSU's 32nd head football coach on Jan. 3, 2005. In four short years, Miles turned the Oklahoma State football program into one that was nationally competitive, despite competing in-state against one of the country's dominant programs. Now as the head coach of the flagship university in the state of Louisiana, it's Miles' mission to not only keep the Tigers among the elite in the nation on the playing field, but to also continue the program's success in the classroom and in the community. On the field, Miles is a proven winner and he was the obvious choice for LSU, a team that ranks second in the SEC in victories over the past five years with 48. He's a skillful manager who brings to Baton Rouge football expertise, an eye for evaluating talent, and a personality that has energized the program. All talents that are necessary for running and maintaining a top 10 college football program. Miles led the Cowboys to three straight bowl appearances, an accomplishment Oklahoma State had not achieved since Jimmy Johnson started a string of three straight post-season games beginning in 1983. In addition, Oklahoma State's appearance in the Cotton Bowl to cap the 2003 season marked the first time in 55 years that the Cowboys appeared in a January bowl game. Miles' college playing and coaching career includes experience under some of the most noted coaches in college football. At Michigan, he played for legendary coach Bo Schembechler and later served on Schembechler's staff. He also worked with Gary Moeller at Michigan and Bill McCartney at Colorado. As head coach at Oklahoma State, he built a consistent winner out of a program that had recorded only one winning season since 1988, and had posted a record of 13-20 in the three years prior to his arrival at OSU. After going 4-7 in his first year as head coach in 2001, he took the Cowboys to consecutive winning marks of 8-5 in 2002, 9-4 in 2003 and 7-5 in 2004. Prior to his tenure as head coach at Oklahoma State, Miles was the tight ends coach for the Dallas Cowboys for three seasons from 1998-2000. During his three years with the Cowboys, Dallas won one divisional title while participating in the playoffs twice. Miles comes to LSU off of his second tour of duty with Oklahoma State. Before going to Dallas, Miles served as Oklahoma State's offensive coordinator for three seasons from 1995-97, including an 8-3 season and Alamo Bowl berth in 1997. Success has followed Miles at every stop of both his playing and professional career. He was a two-year letterman at Michigan (1974-75). During those two seasons, Michigan was a combined 18-3-2, had final Associated Press national rankings in the top 10 and participated in both the Rose and Orange Bowls. He joined Bo Schembechler's Michigan coaching staff in 1980 for the first of two stints as a coach in Ann Arbor. In 1980 and 1981, Michigan combined for 19 wins and just five losses, won the Big 10 title in 1980 and played in the Rose and Bluebonnet Bowls, respectively. Miles left Michigan for Colorado, where he served on Bill McCartney's staff from 1982 through 1986. In his final two years at Colorado, the Buffs earned bids to the Freedom Bowl and Bluebonnet Bowl. In 1987, he returned to Michigan, where he would spend the next eight years as part of one of the most successful eras in Michigan football history. From 1987 to 1994, Michigan won 71 games, made eight straight bowl appearances, including four trips to the Rose Bowl, and finished no lower than No. 21 in final Associated Press national rankings. The 1989 Michigan squad finished 10-2, won the Big 10 championship and finished ranked No. 7 in the country. That would be Coach Bo Schembechler's final season as Michigan's head coach. When Gary Moeller took over the Michigan program prior to the 1990 season, Miles remained on the staff. The 1990 team finished 9-3, winning the Big 10 title and the Gator Bowl. The following season (1991), Michigan finished 10-2 and with a No. 6 national ranking. Miles coached some of the best players to wear the Michigan uniform, including eight first-team All-Americans, 10 total All-Americans and 12 players from Wolverine offensive lines that were NFL draftees. LSU is coming off a second open date, while the Vols dropped a 16-7 road game against. The Tigers are ranked No. 3 in the nation in both polls, while is No. 10 in the AP Poll and No. 11 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. A Rare Top 10 Match-Up In Tiger Stadium The LSU- contest will feature a rare match-up of teams ranked in the Top 10 facing off in Tiger Stadium. The last time two Top 10 teams played in Tiger Stadium came in 2003 when No. 10 LSU posted a 17-10 win over seventh-ranked Georgia. That win served as a springboard for LSU on its way to claiming the national title that season. Prior to that, you have to go all the way back to 1987 to find another Top 10 matchup in Tiger Stadium. In 1987, fourth-ranked LSU and seventh-ranked Ohio State battled to a 13-13 tie. A couple members of the current LSU coaching staff were involved in that game - Karl Dunbar as a defensive lineman for LSU and Bo Pelini as a defensive back for Ohio State. Number Crunching When the Tigers take the field on Monday night, 15 days will have elapsed between LSU s season-opening win over Arizona State and the game. The 15 day span between games is the longest during the regular season for the Tigers since going 20 days without a game during the 2001 season. That year, LSU beat Utah State, 31-14, on Sept. 8 and then didn t play again until a 26-18 loss at on Sept. 29. Also, Tiger Stadium has stood without activity since Nov. 20 of last year when the Tigers beat Ole Miss, 27-24. When LSU and kickoff on Monday, 10 months and six days will have passed since an LSU game was last played in Tiger Stadium. That will mark the longest span between LSU home games since 1945-46 when the Tigers went 10 months and 24 days between games (Nov. 10, 1945 to Oct. 5, 1946). That year, seventh-ranked and 9-0 LSU dropped a 21-7 decision to undefeated and second-ranked Alabama, 21-7, on Nov. 22, 1973 in a night game televised by ABC. LSU traditionally plays on Friday afternoons in the other non-saturday games played in Tiger Stadium. The New Tiger Stadium Tiger Stadium takes on a new look in 2005 as the old west upper deck was taken down and rebuilt over the past nine months. As part of the west side renovation, a new state-of-the-art press box has been added as well as 3,200 special amenity seats have been put in place. Tiger Stadium's new capacity is listed at 92,400 and a sellout crowd is expected on Saturday night. On The Helmet In light of the recent natural disaster known as Hurricane Katrina that devastated Louisiana, in particular the city of New Orleans, LSU will add three stickers to its helmet that are representative of the state of Louisiana. The Louisiana state flag along with a "Fleur-de-Lis" will both be represented on the LSU football helmet this year. The "Fleur-de-Lis" has been traditionally used to represent French royalty, and in that sense it is said to signify "perfection, light, and life". The Fleur-de-Lis is synonymous with the city of New Orleans. In addition, LSU, along with other teams from the SEC, will wear a sticker that combines that shapes of the states of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, the states that were devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

In The Polls The Tigers are ranked No. 3 in the nation in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls. LSU opened the year ranked No. 5 in the AP poll and No. 6 in the coaches poll. Following its win over Arizona State, the Tigers jumped two spots to No. 3 in both polls. LSU remains No. 3 in both polls for the second consecutive weeks. Russell Engineers Another Fourth Quarter Comeback For Tigers JaMarcus Russell engineered another fourth quarter comeback for the Tigers on Sept. 10 when LSU scored 28 fourth quarter points to beat Arizona State, 35-31. The Tigers clinched the win with just over a minute left when Russell drove the Tigers 91 yards on 10 plays, capped on a 39-yard TD pass to Early Doucet on a fourth-and-10 play. The fourth quarterback comeback win represents the 10th time since the 2000 season that the Tigers have rallied to win games despite trailing in the final quarter. DT Claude Wroten blocked a 47-yard field goal attempt and DB Mario Stevenson picked up the ball and returned it 55- yards for a TD. Then, on its next possession, LSU's Jacob Hester blocked an ASU punt and S Craig Steltz scooped the ball up and returned it 29-yards for the TD. In its history, LSU has returned 10 blocked punts for TDs. Stevenson's TD return of the blocked field goal is the first in school history. Addai Has Second 100-Yard Rushing Game LSU RB Joseph Addai recorded the second 100-yard rushing game of his career with a 109 yards against Arizona State. The 109 yards marked a career-best for Addai, who also added a pair of rushing TDs in the game. Addai's other 100-yard game came last year against Ole Miss when he rushed for 107 yards. For his career, Addai has rushed for 1,775 yards and 11 TDs. Craig Davis Reception Streak At 13 Straight With four catches for 39 yards against Arizona State, junior WR Craig Davis has caught at least one pass in 13 straight games. Domino was rescued for his home in the lower 9th Ward of New Orleans in early September and brought to the triage unit at the Maravich Assembly Center on the LSU campus. Domino, who checked in at the triage unit under is given name of Antoine Domino, was then reunited with family members and taken, along with a dozen other New Orleans natives, to Russell's apartment, which is located just off the LSU campus. Russell, a native of Mobile, Ala., said he's had close to 20 people in his apartment for the past two days. Russell said he's had little sleep over the past 48 hours as he's done everything from making trips to the grocery store to even taking a trip to the pharmacy at 2 a.m. to retrieve medicine for Fats Domino. "The important thing is that Fats and his family are all alright," Russell said. "I'm not sure where they are headed, but I just feel better knowing that they are okay." Russell said Domino and the other members of his family had spent the past two days sleeping on floors, couches and beds and passed the time watching television coverage of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. It's An Old O-Line LSU's offensive line may be one of the most experienced around. The Tigers start 3 seniors (Andrew Whitworth, Rudy Niswanger and Nate Livings), 1 junior (Brian Johnson) and a redshirt freshman (Brett Helms). LSU's starting offensive line combines for 89 career starts, while the 2-deep combines for 100 career starts among the group. Williams, Wroten and Oliver Anchor Defensive Line LSU's defensive line, anchored by seniors Kyle Williams, Claude Wroten and Melvin Oliver, is one of the most productive around. Williams and Wroten are both preseason All-America selections at defensive tackle, while Oliver is in his second year as a starter for the Tigers. The trio has combined for 30 sacks and 48 tackles for losses over the past three years. Williams leads the group with 13 career sacks, followed by Oliver with 11 and Wroten with six. LaRon Landry Back To Lead Secondary LaRon Landry, a First-Team All-SEC pick in 2004, returns as the "quarterback" of the Tiger secondary in 2005. In his first two years with the Tigers, Landry has led LSU in tackles both years. In the national championship season in 2003, Landry started 10 games for LSU, registering 80 tackles, 3 sacks and a pair of interceptions. Last year in 12 starts, Landry again led the Tigers in tackles with 92 to go with a team-best 4 interceptions and three sacks. For his career, Landry has recorded 180 tackles, 9.5 tackles for losses, 6 sacks and 6 interceptions. LSU's Sack Streak At 38 Straight Games After further review, LSU's sack streak is intact as DT Kyle Williams was credited with a sack in the Tiger win over Arizona State. The first half sack ran LSU's streak of games with at least one sack to 38 straight. The streak dates all the way back to the Miami (Ohio) game in 2002 when the Tigers sacked Ben Roethlisberger three times. Tigers Put Up 28 Points In Fourth Quarter Against Arizona State LSU's 28 points against Arizona State marked the most points in a single quarter for the Tigers since the 2003 season when LSU opened with 28 first quarter points in a 49-10 win over Louisiana Tech. Wroten Named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week vs. Arizona State LSU DT Claude Wroten earned SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week honors for his efforts in the Tigers' 35-31 win over 15th-ranked Arizona State. Wroten, a senior from Bastrop, La., helped ignite a fourth quarter LSU rally with a blocked field goal with just under 15 minutes left in the contest. Wroten's blocked field goal was picked up and returned 55-yard by Mario Stevenson, which pulled the Tigers to within 17-14. LSU then blocked a punt on Arizona State's next possession, that one was returned 29-yards for a touchdown by Craig Steltz giving the Tigers a 21-17 lead. In all, the Tigers scored 28 fourth quarter points, including the game-winner with just over a minute left. For the game, Wroten recorded three tackles, two of which went for losses. He also was credited with one pass breakup and a quarterback hurry. Georgia Dome (74,843) LSU Defeats No. 2 Vols For SEC Title Matt Mauck filled in for an injured Rohan Davey and rushed for a pair of touchdowns as the Tigers upset second-ranked in the SEC Championship Game, 31-20, at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. Mauck entered in the first quarter and staked the Tigers to a 7-0 lead on a 4-yard run. The Tigers rallied from a 17-10 halftime deficit, outscoring the Vols 21-3 in the second half. Mauck s 13-yard touchdown run less than a minute into the fourth quarter gave the Tigers a 24-17 lead they would not surrender. Trailing 17-7 early in the fourth quarter, LSU DT Claude Wroten blocked a 47-yard field goal attempt and DB Mario Stevenson scooped up the ball and returned it 55- yards for a TD to pull the Tigers to within 17-14. Then, on ASU's next possession, the Tigers blocked a punt and S Craig Steltz picked up the block and returned it 29-yards for a score, giving LSU a 21-17 advantage with 13:27 to play. The lead went back-andforth over the eight minutes before ASU grabbed a 31-28 advantage with 4:07 to play. JaMarcus Russell then guided the Tigers on a 10-play, 91-yard drive capped with a 39-yard TD pass to Early Doucet on a fourth-and-10 situation for the Tigers. LSU's defense then stopped the Sun Devils on downs inside the Tiger 30-yard line.
