Notes from Committee Chairs SPL/Senior Patrol Report Nik Van / 2012 Conner Henebry Journey to Excellence criterion Advancement to improve we are doing well but could improve. Task Force created by Mr Kevin Caylor and SPL Nik Van to explore ways to Get us to Gold in the new Journey to Excellent award program for Troops this program replaces the Quality Unit awards Troop Size increase There was discussion with no decision made so we will stay at current level. Patrol leadership counsel(plc): Our greenbar is our version of this. Greenbar meeting is needed to decide when the year for the Journey to Excellence is to start and decide what to stress for this to get us a gold award.. We have the opportunity to send 2 scouts to National Leadership Training at Emerald Bay. Nik suggests that the new SPL should be sent, possibly with the outgoing SPL, every year to aid their transition. Troop Courts of Honor: could we increase to 4 instead of 3? Mrs Mendoza reminded us that the COH is a major amount of work and recommends staying at 3. Mr. Brill suggested a fall troop and family potluck and get together would be a better function Whenever a committee is formed it should be made up of scouts to ensure the boy lead troop is follow. ASPL s are recommended to help fill our committees. Send vannikolus@cox.net Committee Chairman Report Bill Szieff / 2012 - Paul Magid o Parent Social was great fun. o Adult Participation form / signup sheet results o My replacement report o Family party in September is in planning stage. Scoutmasters report: Chuck Brill Task Force created by Mr Kevin Caylor and SPL Nik Van to explore ways to Get us to Gold in the new Journey to Excellent award program for Troops this program replaces the Quality Unit awards. Should we buy a projector and good quality speakers for the COH slide shows and visitor presentations cost about $600-$700. Karen Mendoza moved to purchase a new projector and speakers not to exceed $1000.00. Seconded and passed. Two new merit badges Chess and Welding anyone know how to weld and have the equipment anyone a chess expert if so check out the requirements online and see if it s something you are up for teaching next year. St Peters by the sea troop has a chess tournament over Christmas. SPL for Summer Camp Nik Van has asked to be the SPL for Emerald Bay.

Mark Richard brought up that the new SPL or and ASPL would be good candidates. The scouts going to Chawanakee does not have anyone trained in leadership. Mr. Van brought out that this would be a benefit for the troop if the SPL leaving would go through the training with the incoming SPL. In previous years the Chawanakee SPL was chosen by the troop SPL to choose the camp spl. Mr. Fuhrman said that in the distant past that the scoutmaster and outgoing SPL would choose the camp SPL. Following questions, there are some scouts that can step up and fill the SPL for the Camp. Nik has already chosen Thomas Crow to be the SPL. Junior Leadership training is coming up this month that would also be good for all the ASPL. Motion by Bernie Gruber: the 3 boys interested in the position of camp SPL be allowed to decide who gets training among themselves. Seconded. The motion is passed with 5 opposed. Motion that up to 15 scouts that wish to attend National Leadership Training be attend at troop expense per year until amended. Seconded and discussion followed. Motion Failed. Motion : up to 5 scouts may attend National Leadership Training to be paid by the troop. Motion was withdrawn. Enjoy your summer Adult Leader Training Angela Conterno / 2012 - Joanne Cost Breakdown for training: Scoutmaster and Asst Scoutmasters and the approximate costs associated with those trainings. Keep in mind the costs will vary a little depending on where the class is given. Required Certification Cost Youth Protection Free (online) This is Scouting Free (online) Leader Specific Training $15 (Long Beach Area Council) Intro to Outdoor Leader Skills $15 (Long Beach Area Council) Hazardous Weather Free (online) Other recommended online trainings (no fee) are: Safe Swim Defense Climb on Safely Fast Start Orientation o The only other expense would be for CPR classes. This is not mandatory for leaders, but it is required for the Philmont attendees every year. The cost varies. Also, in the past, Alex Van has offered to give a certification class (his cost may be much lower) $70 - American Red Cross Standard First Aid with CPR/AED - Adult (valid 2 years)

As you can see, there aren't many costs associated with the required trainings. The highest cost is CPR trainings, which should be discussed at the next parent meeting. o Court of Honor Coordinator Linda Fester / 2012-13 Mrs. Baik. o COH was June 1st. Troop Website Paul Magid / 2012 Vince Reher The domain name was transferred from Network Solutions to Yahoo. Now the domain name transfer process is complete. Everything is in one location. The webmaster handoff from Paul Magid to Vince Reher has occurred. Patrol leadership on trips suggestions, there is a breakdown in patrols. Nights & Miles Roxanne Bakerjian / 2012 - Sharon Benton o I would like to mention that if they plan an event close to a court of honor they need to send the information immediately to be included. If not, the nights and miles may not show up for patches until the next COH. It takes time to get the info to Karen and for her to get the patches, then again to the person coordinating the Program. The Program needs time to be printed. Troop T-Shirts Deborah Bongard / 2012- Becky Park o T-Shirts are available at troop meetings. Austin Forsyth asked to start a committee to study how to institute a stronger Patrol method in the troop and on outings.
