Welcome Welcome to the world of cosmetology! All you need is proper training, lots of energy and enthusiasm, which happens to be the formula for success, and opportunities, will be knocking at your door. Please take a moment to read this catalog, it is intended to give you an overview of The Nail Inn and School of Cosmetology s programs and requirements. About us The Nail Inn and School of Cosmetology is a well-equipped cosmetology school with a personal touch. We specialize in providing personalized instruction that benefits each individual student and allows them to gain the skills and knowledge in the creative art and science of hairstyling and nail design. Our clinic floor has 20 stations to serve our guests and enhance our students clinical experience. We have a practical classroom were student s learn and practice hands on applications. Finally we have a theory classroom were our students learn all the detail information one chapter at a time. We offer several programs: cosmetologist, nail technician, cosmetology instructor and nail technician instructor. Each program is explained in this catalog. Please read through the information and feel free to call us with any questions. The Nail Inn and School of Cosmetology looks forward to hearing from you. Our Staff and Faculty The Nail Inn and School of Cosmetology s owner, Michele Zaper, the director, Nellie Youdris and several experienced instructors devote their energy to educating, mentoring, guiding and inspiring each individual student. The organizational chart lists all faculty and staff. Our Location The Nail Inn and School of Cosmetology is located in historic downtown Lemont. Two blocks east of the train station. Ten minutes south of I-55 and Lemont road exit. There is ample parking behind the building and a back door for your convenience. Compensation Your motivation and desire to make money will determine your income. In the Beauty industry, the sky is the limit, but you must be willing to put forth the time and effort that it takes to achieve your goals. There are several factors to consider when setting your income goals, such as; Geographic area Population and income of clients in your business area Type of salon Type of pay scale offered by salon Most important of all is YOU! At The Nail Inn and School of Cosmetology, you will learn more about careers related to cosmetology and their compensations. Physical Demands and Considerations The Nail Inn and School of Cosmetology feels that the student who is interested in pursuing a career in cosmetology should consider all of its aspects, including its physical demands. If you want to become a cosmetologist or nail technician, consider the following: Finger dexterity and a sense of form and artistry Enjoy dealing with the public Ability to follow client directions Keep abreast of the latest fashions and beauty techniques learning does not stop once you get your license. Work long hours to build and keep your clientele including standing for long hours; standing with your arms, shoulders, and hands at shoulder level; sitting at a manicure table Exposure to various chemicals and fumes, which may lead to allergic reactions Commitment to practicing safety and sanitation Our Mission The Nail Inn and School Of Cosmetology s purpose is to provide students with a positive learning environment. Educational Objectives To offer the highest quality education available. To provide instruction to prepare our students to meet all of the requirements necessary to become a licensed cosmetologist, nail technician or an instructor and preliminary training to pass the Illinois State Board examination. Admissions and Enrollment Please call our Director and schedule a visit to The Nail Inn and School of Cosmetology to assist you in making your final decision. The Director will also answer any questions or concerns that you may have about enrollment. During your visit you will get all the facts that you need to make the right decision. A prospective student can enroll anytime during the year. Nondiscrimination Clause The Nail Inn and School of Cosmetology, in its admissions, instruction, and graduation policies, does not practice discrimination on the basis of sex, age, race, color, religion, or ethnic origin, country or area of origin, or financial status. Registration To register for one of our programs, please call for an appointment. You will need to bring the following information with you: Drivers license or State ID Registration fee of $100.00 Admissions Requirements Cosmetology and Nail Technician Student Admission requirements for a student interested in the cosmetology or nail tech course are as follows: 8 th Grade Certificate of Graduation At least 16yrs of age High School Diploma or equivalent or show cause for ability to benefit Cosmetology and Nail Technician Instructor Student Admission requirements for a student interested in the cosmetology or nail tech instructor course are as follows: At least 18 years of age High School Diploma or equivalent or show cause for ability to benefit Current Certificate as a licensed Cosmetologist or Nail Technician Financial Aid Requirements Ask about our Financial Aid packet for Cosmetology There is NO financial Aid for Nail Technology Program at any institution financial aid is for courses of 650 hours or more. Nail Technology is only 350. Transfer Policy The Nail Inn and School of Cosmetology accepts transfer students into the cosmetology or nail technician programs under the following stipulations: The student must meet the regular admissions policy The student s hours are in good standing with the Illinois State requirements If approved for enrollment, the student will be charged at the hourly rate that is in effect for the courses at the time of enrollment, plus a registration fee. Tuition is based on the total hours of instruction needed to complete the cosmetology course. Tuition will be prorated accordingly. The student will be charged for book and equipment that are needed to comply with the school s tools and book. Re-Entry Policy Former students of The Nail Inn and School of Cosmetology who wish to re-enter the training program, must do so in writing or in person with the school s director. The request will be review and a decision will be made within 30 days of the request being submitted. If accepted for re-entry, the student will be charged at the hourly rate that is in effect for the courses at the time of reentry, plus a registration fee. A re-instatement fee of $100.00 will be charged if the student takes a leave of absence of 30 days or more. Students who withdraw twice from enrollment at The Nail Inn and School of Cosmetology will not be considered for reentry. All students must comply with school s dress code at their own personal expense, as stated in the Rules and Regulations in the student contract.. Page 6

Curriculums The Nail Inn and School of Cosmetology offers the required subjects to ensure that all students are fully prepared upon graduation for the licensing exam. Cosmetology Curriculum The cosmetology curriculum consists of 1500 hours of coordinated theory and practical experience broken down into the following subjects as required by the State of Illinois. Basic Training Classroom instruction and practical instruction on mannequins 150 hrs Hair Styling and Hair Dressing Hands on cutting, thinning, shaping, trimming, blow drying styling, all methods of curling, hair attachments and marcelling 475 hrs Chemical Applications and Hair Treatments Shampooing, scalp and hair conditioning, chemical safety, hair coloring, tinting, bleaching, permanent waving and relaxing 500 hrs Sanitation and Shop Management Labor law, worker s compensation, client relations, bookkeeping, marketing and merchandising, first aid, Illinois law, business ethics, sanitation, electrical devices, personal grooming and hygiene 200 hrs Esthetics Facials, massage movements, basic make-up, arching, anatomy 85 hrs Nail Technology Manicure, Pedicure, Polish application, anatomy 55 hrs Electives Specialty classes 35 hrs Nail Technology Curriculum The nail technology curriculum consists of 350 hours of coordinated theory and practical experience broken down into the following subjects as required by the State of Illinois. Basic Training Classroom instruction and practical instruction on mannequins 50 hrs Related Concepts Cells, metabolism and body systems, theory of massage and people skills 15 hrs Practice and Procedures Fabric, sculpting, light cured gels, machines and apparatus, manicures, pedicures, hand, arm and foot massage, product knowledge 255 hrs Business Practices Illinois barber, Cosmetology, Esthetics and Nail Technology Act and Rules, management, OSHA Standards, Worker s compensation 30 hrs Page 7

Cosmetology Instructor Curriculum The cosmetology instructor curriculum consists of 1000 hours of coordinated theory and practical experience broken down into the following subjects as required by the State of Illinois. Post-Graduate School Training All subjects in the basic cosmetology curriculum. Presentation of material includes the concepts to be taught and the skills to be acquired during the phases of basic education 500 hrs Educational Psychology Educational objectives, student characteristics and development, the learning process 20 hrs Teaching Methods Educational objectives, student characteristics and development, the learning process 20 hrs Application of Teaching Methods Preparation and organization of subject matter, presentation of subject matter, lecture, demonstration, testing and assignments, correlation of theoretical with practical application 150hrs Business Methods Inventory, recordkeeping, interviewing, supplies, Illinois Barber, Cosmetology, Esthetics, and Nail Technology Act 50 hrs Student Teaching Presentation of theoretical and practical demonstrations to students in the basic curriculum 260 hrs Nail Technology Instructor Curriculum The nail technology instructor curriculum consists of 625 hours of coordinated theory and practical experience broken down into the following subjects as required by the State of Illinois. Satisfactory Progress Policy The Satisfactory Progress Policy is consistently applied to all students whether they are participating in Title IV programs or not. Evaluation Periods: Students are evaluated for satisfactory progress 400, 700, 1000 clock hours for Cosmetology and 100, 200 clock hours for Nail Technology. Attendance Progress: Students are required to attend a minimum of 85% of the hours possible based on the attendance schedule. The attendance percentage is determined by dividing the total hours accrued by the total hours scheduled. Maximum Time Frame: The maximum time allowed for students to complete each course is as follows, Cosmetology fulltime 1500 hours max time 44 weeks total hrs 1650 Cosmetology part-time 1500 hours max time 82.5 weeks total hrs 1650 Nail technology part time 350 hours max time 19 weeks total hrs 385 Academic Progress: Academic assignments are evaluated after each unit of study and practical assignments are evaluated as completed and counted towards course completion of rated satisfactory. If the performance does not rate satisfactory, it is not counted and the performance must be repeated. Practical skills are evaluated according to text procedures and set forth in practical skills evaluation criteria adopted by the school. Students must maintain a written grade average of 85% and pass a Final written and practical exam prior to graduation. Students must make up failed or missed tests and incomplete assignments. Students who meet the requirements are considered making satisfactory progress. Numerical grades are considered according to the following scale: 93-100 Excellent, 85-92 Very good, 75-84 Satisfactory, 70-74 below standards. Probation Students who fail to meet the minimum progress requirements in both academic and attendance will be placed on probation until the next evaluation. If students fail to meet the requirements after a second probationary period they will be dropped from the program. Leave of Absence If a student needs to be out of school for more than a week, a leave of absence must be documented in writing and only one leave of absence will be granted per twelve month period. This will extend your contract without penalty. Non credit and remedial courses do not apply to this institution. Appeal Procedure: If a student is not making satisfactory progress they may appeal to the Director in writing. The appeal will be reviewed and a decision will be made within 30 days. Documentation of the appeal will be kept in the students file. Student Services The Nail Inn and School of Cosmetology provides counseling to our students. We can assist you in creating a game plan to keep you on track and improving your learning skills. Graduation Requirements To graduate from The Nail Inn and School of Cosmetology, Cosmetology students must complete the course with an overall grade of 85%, and complete all pre-state requirements. See policy on p.15 of this catalog. Nail Technicians must complete the course with an overall grade of 85%, pass the final written with a 85% and tuition must be paid on time. Cosmetology and Nail Tech instructors must complete the course with an overall grade of 85% and tuition must be paid in full. Once all the requirements have been met the student will then receive a certificate of completion. Employment Assistance While The Nail Inn and School of Cosmetology cannot guarantee employment for graduates, we do provide assistance in finding suitable employment thru our job posting bulletin board. Licensing Requirements Upon completion of our program, your final step is to take a state board exam with a passing grade of 75% or higher. Currently this test consists of 100 multiple choice questions For Cosmetology- 65 for Nail Technology. You can obtain your license when you pass this test and pay all the required test and license fees to the state. All fees are your responsibility. Transcript Policy Upon your final day at The Nail Inn and School of Cosmetology, you will receive your official transcripts, diploma, and state board paperwork. You must meet the following conditions before these items will be issued: 1. Cosmetology student: completed 1500 hours cosmetology training Nail tech student: completed 350 hours nail tech training Cosmetology instructor student: completed 1000 instructor training Nail tech instructor: completed 625 instructor training 2. Paid in full all monies owed to the school no outstanding debt 3. Satisfactory completion of all school requirements It is your responsibility to make copies of your transcripts and paperwork when they are provided by the director. If you need additional copies after graduation, the fee will be $20.00 per set. Please allow 2 weeks notice so that the office has time to prepare your request. Right to Access Records and Rights to Privacy Policy Procedure It is the policy of The Nail Inn and School of Cosmetology that a student or parent, if the student is a minor, has the right to see his/her records at any time during enrollment. The policy is as follows: 1. Before publishing directory information, The Nail Inn and School of Cosmetology allows the student or guardian the right to deny authority to publish one or more items. 2. The Nail Inn and School of Cosmetology provides and permits access to student and other school records as required for any accreditation process initiated by the institution or by NACCAS, or in response to a directive of the commission. 3. The Nail Inn and School of Cosmetology requires written consent from the student or guardian for release records in response to each third party request unless otherwise required by law. When a student needs access to a file or records, the following procedure will take place: 1. The student, or in the case of a minor, the parent and the student, must make an appointment with the director of The Nail Inn and School of Cosmetology. 2. The student will be given sufficient time to view the file in the presence of the director. 3. Nothing will be allowed to leave the room or be taken from the student s file. All items in the file are permanent school records. Refund Policy ****REFUND POLICY**** The following schedule of tuition will be followed: A. An applicant not accepted by the school shall be entitled to a refund of all monies. ****BUYERS RIGHT TO CANCEL**** B. If a student (or in case of student under legal age, his/her parent or guardian) cancels his/her enrollment agreement or contract, all monies collected by the school shall be refunded. The cancellation date will be determined by the postmark or written notification, or the date said information is delivered to school administration/owner in person. This policy applies regardless of whether or not the student has actually received training. C. For students who enroll in and begin classes, the following schedule of tuition adjustment is authorized. Page 10

1) When notice of cancellation is given after the fifth day following enrollment but before the completion of the student's first day of class attendance, the school may retain no more than the application and registration fee, plus the cost of any books or materials which have been provided by the school and retained by the student. The cost of books, for purposes of refunds, is the cost of the books charged to the student, not the cost of the books to the school. 2) For students who enroll in and begin classes, tuition adjustment shall be made in the following manner: PERCENTAGE TIME TO TOTAL TIME OF COURSE AMOUNT OF TOTAL TUITION OWED TO THE SCHOOL 0.01% to 4.9% 10% 5% to 9.9% 30% 10% to 14.9% 40% 15% to 24.9% 45% 25% to 49.9% 70% 50% and over 100% E. Enrolling time is defined as the time elapsed between the actual starting date and the date of the students last day of physical attendance in the school. Any monies due the applicant or student shall be refunded within 21 days of formal cancellation by the student as defined in item b, or formal termination by the school, which shall occur no more than 21 days from the last day of physical attendance, or in the case of a leave of absence, the date of documented date of return. F. In the case of illness or disabling accident, death in the immediate family, or other circumstance beyond the control of the student, the school makes a settlement, which is fair to both. G. Registration fee, textbooks and equipment kit will not be figured in tuition adjustment computations, as indicated in a, b, c, and d. H. If TNIASOC is permanently closed and is no longer offering instruction after a student has enrolled, the student shall be entitle to a pro-rata refund of tuition. I. If a course is canceled subsequent to a student s enrollment, the school shall at its option: 1. Provide a full refund of all monies; or 2. Provide completion of the course. Item (1) applies to students who have never actually started training. In this case, the school may provide completion of the course at a mutually agreeable location or provide a full refund of all monies paid. If the student has started training and the course is canceled, the student is allowed a percentage of tuition refunded excluding registration fees and supply fees. The Total of Payments shown above shall be paid to TNIASOC is indicated below. No student shall be allowed to attend any class unless and until all payments dues to TNIASOC are current: TNIASOC PAYMENT PROGRAM: The student shall pay $100.00 Registration fee and $700.00 Book and Supply fee shall be paid upon signing the registration agreement. The tuition is $14,000.00 for Cosmetology. (Lowered to $8500.00 during special) STUDENT/GUARANTOR: Are responsible for any unpaid balance due to TNIASOC. TNIASOC will not release any transcript until all accounts are paid in full. Page 11

COMPLETION OF COURSE: the scheduled 1500 hours of the student shall complete training for the Cosmetology course. Students shall attend class on a continues basis, 5 days a week, as scheduled by TNIASOC the school is closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day and Thanksgiving Day which are legal holidays. The 34-weeks (8 months minimum) completion period may include such legal holidays. Rules and Regulations Attendance 1. All classes are in session from 9am to 4:30pm and 12:30 pm to 4:30pm. Please check your contract for the times that you are enrolled. 2. You must sign in and out every day for attendance and also for breaks and lunches. Someone else cannot sign in or out for you. 3. If you are here 8 hours, you can earn two fifteen minute breaks and one thirty minute lunch. Breaks are at 10:30 to 10:45 and 2:30 to 2:45. If you miss break time you cannot add it to your lunch time. Breaks are not mandatory, Keep in mind that in the real world you may be too busy to take a break. Lunchtimes are from 12:00 to 12:30pm. 4. If you are here 4 hours you can earn one fifteen minute break from 2:30 to 2:45. 5. If you are going to be late or absent you must call the school and let your teacher know. 6. Wilco students cannot leave the building for breaks or lunches. Uniforms 1. Hair must be clean and styled, face clean and make-up applied hands and nails clean and manicured. 2. Scrubs must be worn at all times, one solid color. No mixing and matching if you have more than one pair. 3. Shoes must be solid black or white, no stripes, decals, writing or other colors. 4. Shoes must be closed toe, no flip flops, no sandals, or any open toe. 5. No jackets, sweater or hoodies allowed over your scrubs, if you are cold you may wear a long sleeve black or white shirt under your scrubs. 6. NO PURSES allowed in the building, unless you choose to purchase a clear bag that is see through. Sanitation 1. All students must participate in sanitation. It is an Illinois state law. 2. If you are leaving early you must check with your instructor and complete your sanitation duty. 3. Each student is responsible for keeping their work space neat and orderly. This means keeping your kit organized, keeping the floor space around you free from clutter and only the tools that you are using, on your station. 4. Please pay attention to were school supplies belong, if you see something out of place, put it away. Just because you didn t put it there doesn t mean you don t have to put it away. 5. No coats, books, papers, bags, food, cell phones, ipods or any other things, are allowed at your station, except styling tools and equipment. 6. Coats must be hung on the coat rack. 7. Books, bags, cell phones and any other items must be in your locker. 8. NO EATING on the clinic or in the practical room. Classroom 1. When you walk into the school you are considered to be in class. Except when you are on break or lunch. 2. No Swearing 3. No Cheating, this includes forging your worksheets 4. No Stealing School property or any one else s personal property. The School reserves the right to random locker inspections. 5. No Fighting 6. No cell phones or ipods 7. No loitering or wandering around the building. 8. No sleeping anywhere in the building 9. You cannot refuse a client or reception duty, you are here to learn and serving a client is part of your education. 10. Insubordination of any kind will not be tolerated students may be signed out at anytime and asked to leave the building. Productivity 1. You must have your kit and books every day. You cannot learn without your tools. 2. Your kit must be complete. Kit inspections will be held randomly. It is your responsibility to replace broken or lost tools. 3. Student service day is every Friday. You must be caught up on all your work in order to get a service. This includes your weekly worksheet must be complete by Friday, all tests must be current and all homework turned in. 4. You cannot do your own hair, makeup or nails. Those are services that must be performed by another student. 5. Missed or failed test must be made-up on Friday. This is mandatory, No exceptions. 6. Any work that is turned in late receives a 10 point deduction. It is your responsibility to be punctual with your work. 7. Keep in mind that a positive attitude will increase your learning. Please leave your personal issues at the door. Page 14

Violations of these rules and regulations are as follows: Wilco students will receive a pink slip (10 points off your grade) for every violation. If a Wilco student receives five pink slips they will be written up and reported to Wilco. Wilco will then determine the consequences for that student. Adult students will receive a pink slip (10 points off your grade) for every violation. If an adult student receives five pink slips they will be suspended for two days. Pre State Requirements For Cosmetology All practical work must be competed. Final mannequin must be completed and displayed at school. All theory class/ home work must be completed. All theory testes must be completed and passed with a 85% or better. Theory final must be completed and have a grade of 85% or better. Tuition paid in on time student with delinquent payments may be asked to pay remaining balance of tuition before transcript will be released to state. Licenses may be revoked if balance of tuition is not paid. All items but be completed 2 weeks before pre state test date or student may not take pre state. A student who does not meet all requirements will have to wait till next scheduled pre state test date to take the pre state test. Please note that if you have to come back at a later date to complete your requirements, you will be charged over contract fees. Pre State Requirements For Nail Technology All practical work must be competed. All tests must be complete with an 85%. Art final turned in. Practical and Written final past with an 85%. Page 15
