INFORMATION ASSURANCE AND SECURITY Principles, Standards and Technology IBM's approach to information assurance is to provide evidence to support CESG accreditation according to the government security principles https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/cloudservice-security-principles/cloud-servicesecurity-principles. SoftLayer is designed to comply with these 14 principles for all security elements including people, processes and technology. These security principles are especially important from 2014 onwards, given the new government security data classification scheme. It is IBM's intention that its cloud platform infrastructure can be demonstrated as suitable for OFFICIAL and OFFICAL SENSITIVE data, which represents the vast majority of government data. These government data classifications supersede previous Impact Level classifications: IL0, IL1, IL2 and IL3. Departments who wish to use SoftLayer can seek CESG accreditation according to the 14 cloud security principles, and IBM can provide assistance in this process by providing supporting evidence for compliance. To expedite the CESG process, IBM's SoftLayer cloud infrastructure platform has already demonstrated compliance with SOC2 Type II, EU Safe Harbour, and CSA STAR CAIQ and CCM self-assessments, as well as the ISO 9000 quality assurance standard. These standards represent IBM's ongoing commitment to the European Commission data privacy requirements. Furthermore, IBM has already started the process for ISO/IEC ISO27001:2013 accreditation. From an engineering and support perspective, IBM SoftLayer technologies undergo continuous rigorous security testing in accordance with IBM Secure Engineering development practices (www.ibm.com/software/test/wenses/security/). If a security exposure is identified by IBM or a third party, then IBM Support will use the IBM Product Security Incident Response Team (PSIRT) process to apply appropriate and timely updates to ensure the overall system security and integrity is maintained.

USE CASES Example use cases US Government U.S. government agencies have demanding requirements for their cloud infrastructure: Servers, data centre facilities, and networks must adhere to strong regulations. Off-premises cloud services need to connect seamlessly and privately to on-premises computing resources. These cloud servers must deliver peak performance for data-intensive, mission-critical workloads. SoftLayer provides cloud infrastructure designed to meet these unique requirements, built to federal specifications, delivering all of the advantages of the SoftLayer platform, with compliance to government regulations. Bare metal servers, virtual servers, storage, and more, all with on demand deployment for the best cloud performance, scalability, and control, with emphasis on the security required by public sector establishments. American SoftLayer data centres reserved for government workloads are certified for FedRAMP and FISMA compliance. Additionally, SOC 2, Type II reports can be provided for those needing detail about controls for other certifications, such as PCI-DSS and HIPAA compliance. These facilities are isolated from SoftLayer s general data centres and connected by an independent high-speed private network. These highly secure data centres in Texas and Virginia have shared capacity for 30,000 servers and are connected to each other through a private network separate from the larger SoftLayer platform. Private Clouds Cloud too crowded for you? Then build, manage, and have total control over your own cloud of virtual servers for reliable, consistent performance along with unmatched scalability. SoftLayer bare metal servers provide the ideal, scalable, secure, high performance infrastructure for running the virtualisation technology of your choice, letting you create virtual servers on your own terms. Hosting Solutions Create a hosting business on a platform that is fully automated via API and provides total transparency and control. Your customers, whether they be Citizens or other Public Sector Departments, Agencies, Authorities or Bodies, demand peak performance, with SoftLayer, you deliver. IBM provide the unique opportunity to build on and resell any or all SoftLayer services as though they are your own, without having to worry about buying and maintaining the hardware. This is useful in the current market place of Shared Services where you will need scalable platforms that are efficiently managed. Digital Marketing To easily process citizen behaviour data, and deliver web and mobile sites for custom campaigns, you need an infrastructure provider with power and flexibility. SoftLayer infrastructure provides the performance, control, and scalability you need to build the perfect environment for citizen centric digital marketing, advertising, and media applications. Big Data The Public Sector today create unprecedented amounts of data. Storing, processing, and pulling value from that data is no easy task. Big data (NoSQL) solutions need infrastructure that can be as scalable as the application and powerful enough to drive it. Configure your own big data solution from scratch, or take advantage of our turnkey, multi-server deployment solutions created to provide leading big data and NoSQL solutions with best practices and optimised hardware

configurations. Consumer behaviour data can be easily processed, analysed, and utilised to make systems faster and more efficient.
