A Closer Look at Converged Infrastructure

A Closer Look at Converged Infrastructure Every ten to fifteen years, a major shift erupts that re-shapes IT. Moving from mainframes to client/server, to Internet computing and virtualization altered the way we purchase, build, consume, and deliver technology. Now, once again, the landscape is rapidly shifting, primarily in response to the many unsolved pressures that have been building up for years: aging infrastructures arranged in expensive application silos, scaled-back IT resources consumed by infrastructure upkeep, pressure by the business to deliver results instantly, structured and unstructured data sets too large to process using traditional data processing applications, an unpredictable global economy that has resulted in reduced IT budgets, explosion of devices and the list goes on. Times have changed, and Comport believes that Converged Infrastructures are the future. The old model, which involved deploying more of everything servers, storage, space, power and personnel to meet the growing needs just does not hold good in the current era where IT is expected to be a strategic businessenabler and do more with less budget. Businesses need to standardize and optimize their IT to be agile and flexible. Converged infrastructure allows IT organizations to centralize the management of IT resources, consolidate systems, increase resource utilization rates, and lower costs. These objectives are enabled by the creation of pools of computers, storage and networking resources that can be shared by multiple applications and managed in a collective manner using policy driven processes. Converged infrastructure allows enterprises to speed IT scalability and respond to business changes with agility. With converged infrastructure, multiple information technology components are packaged into a single, optimized computing

solution. Components of a converged infrastructure solution include servers, data storage devices, networking equipment and software for IT infrastructure management, automation and orchestration. To reap promised cost savings and overcome IT pain points, enterprises must know where to look for improvements - and collaborate with an expert partner. This white paper sheds light on the real-world benefits of converged infrastructure. Converged Infrastructure - So What? Over the last several years, converged infrastructure has stepped forward as a viable way to combat IT sprawl and rising data center costs. IDC s white paper Measuring the Business Value of Converged Infrastructure in the Data Center paints an accurate picture of the situation at hand. Today s data center environments have become too expensive to own and operate in a traditional fashion. We can point to silos as the cause of much of today s data center pain. In fact, a single enterprise may spend as much as 70% of their IT budget on operational expenses, fire drills, and activities that just keep the lights on, leaving little room for innovation needed to compete and win in the market. IT is strained to the breaking point. Converged infrastructure promises to lower expenses while delivering faster time-to-business value. IT professionals have understood the potential of converged infrastructure for quite some time. However, making the business case can be problematic. Too often, when speaking of the potential of converged infrastructure, business decision makers respond by essentially asking, So what? Pinpointing the real-world improvements of the leading Converged Infrastructure answers this question.

HP Converged Infrastructure at a Glance From a high-level perspective, HP Converged Infrastructure allows enterprises to shift from silos of applications and systems to a shared, services-oriented environment. HP Converged Infrastructure accomplishes this feat by making marked improvements in: Total cost of ownership Availability Speed of deployment A converged infrastructure is an open, modular, interoperable, and well-orchestrated pool of shared resources. The ability to adapt IT alongside the business world allows IT departments to consolidate tasks that once took days (or months) down to a matter of minutes. Comport is an HP Platinum Partner, the highest level, and we specialize in converged infrastructure. HP is the market-leader in Converged Infrastructure, the only vendor with true soup to nuts converged capabilities including Cloud. With HP you don t get disparate technologies bolted together and labeled as converged. You receive components designed from the start to ensure convergence and workload optimization. The result is a single, holistic computing ecosystem. You benefit from: Enterprise-grade reliability, based on rigorous configuration and firmware testing. Enhanced experience with systems designed as one, purchased as one, and managed as one. Instant scalability to grow as your needs change; you can easily snap in new capacity to scale up and down as needed.

Ability to integrate your new HP ConvergedSystem into your existing environment with no rip and replace. The features of HP Converged Infrastructure allow enterprises to: Consolidate server, storage, and networking resources into a dynamic, automated pool. Reduce the time to provision complex applications and services. Reduce virtual machine sprawl. Improve data center power consumption. Encompass hybrid, OpenStack Cloud environments. To bring these benefits to fruition, enterprises need to consult with an expert IT business partner on their transition to a converged infrastructure. Close the IT Gap Management Converged Management HP Converged Management is the new central nervous system for the data center. It delivers integrated infrastructure lifecycle management capabilities and, through HP OneView, enables you to see and understand the capacity and health status of every device in your data center in one screen. It provides role-specific views to your different IT stakeholders. HP OneView is the first software platform that creates a modern and integrated workspace for lifecycle management of HP Converged Infrastructure. HP has applied the best experiences from the consumer world to the complex job of infrastructure management, so your IT team can work in a natural and collaborative way. HP OneView helps your organization close the IT management gap by shifting the focus of infrastructure

management from how devices run to how people work. HP OneView delivers unprecedented ease of use, so you can deploy and manage your infrastructure faster, at a lower cost, and at a greater scale. We will be sure to bring up OneView in our discussions with you, the benefits are too important. Comport s Expertise Comport has more than 30 years of experience in IT data center infrastructure. Certainly, converged infrastructure allows enterprises to consolidate and manage IT efficiently and economically.
