CPOE News (Computerized Provider Order Entry) WSP Newsletter Issue #16 12/9/13 Since we went live with CPOE, over 1.1 million orders have been entered! Thank you!! RECENTLY BUILT ORDER SETS The following order set has been recently built and is now available for your use: CONV Troponin ORDER SET CHANGE - 1 CONV Pain Management Three separate subgroups were created within the Pain Management Convenience Order Set. Those subgroups include hard stops, so one option from each subgroup must be chosen (Pain 1-3, Pain 4-6, and Pain 7-10). By doing this, it will increase the likelihood that the patient will have a pain medication option for each level of the pain score scale. Page 1 of 5

ORDER SET CHANGE - 2 ~Pain Medication Changes~ The Pain Scale information has been added to the Instructions field for pain medications. The meds are defaulted to the recommended frequency based on the Pain Scale Range suggested in the Pain Management Convenience Order Set. This is being done to avoid multiple pain meds being ordered for the same pain scale ranges and to eliminate generic PRN pain orders w/out reference to the pain scale. Even though the meds are defaulted, they can still be edited by physicians if needed. Page 2 of 5

ORDER SET CHANGE - 3 REMINDER All blood transfusion orders have remained on paper. Please do not free text blood bank orders in the Instruction field of a type and screen order. For your convenience, any order set that includes an order for Type and Screen has been changed to include a URL link to the paper order that can then be printed: A reminder has also been placed in the Type and Screen Instructions field (see below): Page 3 of 5

ORDER SET CHANGE - 4 CKMBR (Creatine Kinase MB reflex) and total CK will be removed from order sets effective Monday, December 2 nd, 2013. CKMBR will remain on the laboratory formulary and available to the provider if deemed necessary. Please direct questions to Joan Korth, Manager of Laboratory Services, at 810-342-2095. ORDER SET CHANGE - 5 Lovenox and Artixtra Order Sets - It was decided to change the frequency from daily with a default time of 0900, to Q24H and Q12H frequencies. The order sets will default to the next 30 minute time if the start time is not specified. The dose will be scheduled for this time every 24 hours and will avoid duplication in doses. Please direct questions to Pharmacy at 810-342-2738. Notice that Lovenox and Arixtra now have a note to indicate Start Time Click on the medication in order to change the time The default is Q24 (Every 24 Hours). If next scheduled time box is checked (which is the default), this order will start at the next half hour mark and be scheduled every 24 hours at that time. For example, if this order was placed at 1713, the schedule would start at 1730 and be given at 1730 daily until discontinued. By unchecking the Next Scheduled Time box, you can now enter a future start time. In this example, this order placed on 11/26 at 0922 will now start on 11/27 at 0700 and will continue at 0700 daily because of the Q24 hour frequency. Please note, do not change the frequency and make sure you fill out the start date completely with the date and time. Page 4 of 5

They will now be finalizing their reports directly in ProSolv (the current Cardiology system). The final reports will be sent to WSP and can be viewed via HPF ( Med Rec View tab). The reports will be found in the Echocardiogram Reports or Stress Reports folders depending on the type of test. There will no longer be a preliminary or final report on the physical chart. The final report will only be available electronically via WSP. They will be viewable in the Med Rec View tab the moment they are reviewed and signed by the Cardiologist. ** This transition supports McLaren Flint s movement toward ICAEL certification and will improve the timeliness of completed & signed Stress and Echo reports in WSP. If you have any questions, please contact Cheryl Ellegood or Dr. Jason White at 810-342-2998. Thank you for your support. Page 5 of 5
