ARTICULATION AGREEMENT IN ELEMENTARY EDUCATION, SPECIAL EDUCATION, EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND CHILDHOOD STUDIES BETWEEN JAMESTOWN COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND ST. BONAVENTURE UNIVERSITY 2011 PURPOSE OF AGREEMENT This document establishes a transfer articulation agreement between Jamestown Community College and St. Bonaventure University. Its purpose is to afford students the opportunity to preplan their college careers, and to facilitate the transfer process from Jamestown Community College to the Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, the Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education/Early Childhood, Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education/Special Education and Bachelor of Science in Childhood Studies degree programs at St. Bonaventure University. The Childhood Studies degree does not earn any level of teacher certification. GENERAL GUARANTEE OF ADMISSION AND STANDING Students who graduate from Jamestown Community College are guaranteed acceptance into the School of Education and to their choice of the Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, Bachelor of Science in Elementary/Early Childhood or Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education/Special Education degree program at St. Bonaventure University provided they have declared an academic concentration in English, Math/Science/Technology, Social Studies, or a Modern Language a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and a minimum Education grade point average of 3.0, a grade of C (2.0) or better in the following courses or Jamestown Community College equivalents: EDUC 201, EDUC 210, and completed a minimum of 60 credit hours listed in Appendix A of this agreement. After the first semester of attendance at St. Bonaventure, students will petition for formal admission through Gate 1 for entrance to the Field Block. At this time they present to the Director of Field Services and Department Chair:
two recommendations from St. Bonaventure University and/or Jamestown Community College education faculty on file with the St. Bonaventure University Office of Field Services, satisfactory field evaluation forms, proof of a minimum GPA of 3.0 in their first semester work at St. Bonaventure University, proof of passing scores in PRAXIS I-PPST or Computerized PPST: Reading, Writing, and Mathematics or the LAST (Liberal Arts and Sciences Test) from the New York State Certification Exam set, proof of current Professional Liability Insurance Coverage (membership in Student NEA or other professional organization), and copies of clearance documents: (1) FBI criminal record check, (2) State Police background check, and (3) Child Abuse Clearance check. Students who graduate from Jamestown Community College are guaranteed acceptance into the School of Education and to the Bachelor of Science in Childhood Studies provided they have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 and an Education grade point average of 2.5 a grade of C or better in EDUC 201, EDUC 210, ECED 230 and SPED 230 (or their JCC equivalents. GENERAL GUARANTEE OF OPPORTUNITY TO GRADUATE 1. Students who graduate from Jamestown Community College having passed a minimum of 51 credit hours from among the courses listed in Appendix A of this agreement (EDU 1510 Foundations of Education must be included) are guaranteed the opportunity to earn the Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with four semesters of normal coursework at St. Bonaventure University provided that they work closely with their advisor at St. Bonaventure University. 2. Students who graduate from Jamestown Community College having passed all courses listed in Appendix A of this agreement (EDU 1510 Foundations of Education must be included) are guaranteed the opportunity to earn the Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education/Special Education with four semesters of normal coursework at St. Bonaventure University provided that they work closely with their advisor at St. Bonaventure University. 3. Students who graduate from Jamestown Community College having passed a minimum of 51 credit hours from among the courses listed in Appendix A (EDU 1510 Foundations of Education must be included) are guaranteed the opportunity to earn the Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education/Early Childhood Education with four semesters of normal coursework provided that they work closely with their advisor at St. Bonaventure University.

Students who graduate from Jamestown Community college having passed a minimum of 51 credit hours from among the courses listed in appendix A of this agreement (EDU 1510 Foundations of Education must be included) are guaranteed the opportunity to earn the Bachelor of Science in Childhood Studies (a non teacher certification degree) with four semester of normal coursework provided that they work closely with their advisor at St. Bonaventure University. A cumulative grade point average of 2.0 and an Education grade point average of 2.0 are required for graduation from St. Bonaventure University with a degree in Childhood Studies. A separate agreement allows students who are enrolled full-time at Jamestown Community College to take one course free of charge at St. Bonaventure University each semester. 4. Students who are admitted to St. Bonaventure University without having earned the A.S. degree can use Appendix B of this agreement as a guide to Jamestown Community College courses that fulfill additional St. Bonaventure University Clare College requirements which are waived for students who do complete the A.S. degree. 5. A student may transfer a course in which less than a C was earned only if the cumulative GPA at the time of enrollment is at least 2.5. For students whose cumulative GPA is below 2.5 at the time of enrollment, St. Bonaventure University requires a minimum grade of C for a course to transfer. To earn a baccalaureate degree, students must complete at least 60 undergraduate hours at St. Bonaventure University. 6. A separate agreement allows students who are enrolled full-time at Jamestown Community College to take one course free of charge at St. Bonaventure University each semester. PROMOTION OF AGREEMENT Both parties have the right to use this agreement and the names of Jamestown Community College and St. Bonaventure University in all promotional activities including college catalogs and recruitment or advisement activities. PROVISION FOR CHANGES IN POLICIES OR CURRICULA Proposed changes in policies or curricula by either party should be communicated in writing to the other party. EFFECTIVE DATE AND PROVISION FOR CANCELLATION This agreement goes into effect when signed by all individuals listed below. Either party may independently cancel this agreement by notifying the other party in writing no less than one year before the intended date of cancellation.
