1 Articulation Agreement between St. Joseph's College and Suffolk County Community College This document represents a transfer credit articulation agreement between the College of Arts and Sciences of St. Joseph's College and Suffolk County Community College. This will serve as a guiding document for use by students, faculty and administrators of both institutions in clarifying the relationship between the schools and in confirming the way course credits transfer from Suffolk County Community College to St. Joseph's College. The attached Transfer Articulation Course Equivalencies documents are the result of dialogue between the St. Joseph's College and Suffolk County Community College Academic Deans and Department Chairpersons. Each course equivalent has been reviewed by both parties for content and transferability. The agreement may be modified, including adding or deleting course equivalencies, upon agreement of both parties. Suffolk County Community College A.S. and A.A. graduates are eligible to receive up to 64 semester hours of transfer credits when transferring to St. Joseph's College. Credit will only be awarded for courses completed with a grade of C- or better. The overall grade point average must meet current St. Joseph's College admissions requirements as stated in the St. Joseph's College Catalogue, as well as program-specific requirements. The attached articulation agreement serves as a guideline for the maximum number of transfer credits from Suffolk County Community College to St. Joseph's College. Students transferring to St. Joseph's College from Suffolk Community College with the maximum number of credits will be given the opportunity to complete the requirements for a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree within four additional semesters of full-time study. St. Joseph's College liberal arts/core requirements, distribution requirements, and course equivalencies for transfer credit purposes are contained within this document.
2 To complete requirements for the baccalaureate degree, the student is responsible for any core requirements still outstanding; a major of 30 or more credits; any other requirements of the major; and a total of 128 credits, of which a minimum of 90 credits must be in the liberal arts for a B.A. degree and a minimum of 60 credits in the liberal arts for a B.S. degree. A description of the Core Requirements, including listings of thematic areas and of integrated learning experiences, is attached. Also attached is an equivalency chart to facilitate analysis of courses of study and of how SCCCcourses transfer to SJc. Ordinarily, the minimum residency requirement for a St. Joseph's degree is three semesters or credits. Students who transfer to SJCas juniors are usually expected to complete their course and credit requirements at St. Joseph's College. To better serve the needs of Suffolk County Community College students who are considering a transfer to St. Joseph's College, to facilitate the admissions and transfer process, and to ensure that students are provided with the information they need, it is agreed that: St. Joseph's College will: o Designate an admissions/academic advisor for SCCCstudents transferring process. to SJCto assist with the admissions and transfer credit o Conduct an "early-bird" registration program specific to SCCC o o transfer students who complete the admissions process by November 1 for the spring term and April 15 for the fall term. Provide monthly on-site admissions and advising sessions on all three SCCCcampuses for students interested in transferring to SJc. Have faculty continue to work with SCCCfaculty in reviewing additional courses for transferability. o Designate a financial aid counselor for SCCCstudents transferring to SJc.
3 o Provide three full-tuition Presidential Transfer Scholarships and six Dean's Scholarships to eligible SCCCtransfer students entering in the fall semester who meet the criteria as outlined in the Scholarship Agreement. (attached) o Award $1000 to SCCCHonors Program graduates OR to SCCC graduates who are members of Phi Theta Kappa. (Confirmation of PTKmembership is required.) A student may receive only one of these two awards, but the award may be added to any another SJC scholarship awarded to the student. Suffolk County Community College will: o Publicize this agreement to students, faculty and professional staff in campus publications. o Have transfer advisors well versed about this agreement to inform interested students about this opportunity o Provide a list of and contact information for graduating students to St. Joseph's College upon request. o Provide a list and contact information of SCCCwho are enrolled in the Joint Admissions program and/or 112 program. o Organize an SJCDay on each campus for students to meet with SJC advisors. o Ensure that SJCbrochures, applications and other printed materials are distributed to the Counseling Centers and the academic departments at SCCc. o Advertise any special programs, events or visits that SJCis offering on the SCCCcampuses This agreement will remain in force until either party wishes to terminate.
