Foundation Course in Chemical Engineering Summer School These instructions are for applications to the Foundation Course in Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London. Our Online application system EMBARK, is used for other Imperial courses and summer schools so some of the questions may not be relevant to the Foundation Course in Chemical Engineering. We therefore recommend reading through these instructions carefully before starting your application and keeping them to hand throughout the process to make sure that you provide all of the information that we need. Please note that we are unable to accept applications by email or post, so please read through these instructions to apply online. Before you Begin Make sure that you have the following supporting documents ready for upload (we can accept Word, PDF and JPEG files): A signed copy of our Terms and Conditions. You can either sign them electronically by typing in your name and date or you can print them off, sign them and scan them. If you do not sign and attach this document, you will be prevented from submitting your application. Access the EMBARK Application System Go to: https://apply.embark.com/grad/imperial/ and select Science, Engineering and Medicine. Then click Go. Then, if this is your first time applying for Summer School or postgraduate study at Imperial, click Create an Account and follow the on-screen instructions. If you already have an Embark account, then please use your existing username to login. Please Note: If you have already applied for a postgraduate course at Imperial in the 2014/15 academic year, you will need to create a new Embark account using an alternative email address. This is because the system will not allow you apply for multiple types of course in the same academic year. However, this issue can be avoided if you create an additional account using a new email address and other course applications will be unaffected. Step 1: Preliminary Questions On the top right of the home page, please select the Update my answers link. Please select the programme you wish to apply for: Select Imperial College Summer Schools and then click Save and Continue. Page 1

From that window, choose Foundation Course in Chemical Engineering Summer School FCSSC 1 SK OP PT Academic Year of Entry Click the Find Academic Year of Entry link which will open a new window. From that window, choose Academic Year 2014/15. Personal Details This section captures your personal details. If any of your details change (such as your postal or email address), please let the Summer School Administrator (Hannah Taylor hannah.taylor@imperial.ac.uk) know immediately. Title Please choose from the drop down menu. Last Name/Family Name Your application will be registered under this name, and you should use this name in all future correspondence with Imperial. This name should correspond with the name on your qualification certificates, your passport and birth certificate. If you had a previous surname please see the next section. Former Last Name/Family Name If your current surname/family name is different (for reasons such as marriage/divorce), please enter your former name here and the date of your name change in the box provided. First/Given Name(s) Please enter your first and all given names in the order in which they appear on official documents such as your birth certificate or passport. Preferred Name (Known as) Please provide the name you are usually known by if different to your given name stated above (if you abbreviate your full name for example). The College Identification (CID) numbers were introduced at the College in 1998. If you were a staff member or student at Imperial College before this time, or cannot remember your CID number, please leave this blank. Sex Please choose either Male or Female. Nationality Country of Birth Use the drop down list to choose the country of your birth. Primary Country of Nationality Use the drop down list to choose the country of your nationality. If you have dual nationalities please specify the second country of your dual nationality using the second drop down list. Country of Permanent Residence Use the drop down list to choose the country (UK or other country) in which you are normally resident except on periods of temporary absence (time spent studying away is classed as temporary). UK Area of Residence If you selected UK as your Country of Permanent Residence, you MUST also enter a UK Area of Residence e.g. UK: London (Westminster). Otherwise please leave this field blank. Date of arrival in UK if overseas If you currently reside in the UK and are a non-eu/uk national please enter your UK arrival date. Please complete the details of your current studies. Current or most recent Higher Education Institution If you have more than two higher education qualifications, please just provide the two most recent ones. Secondary/High School Education Please leave this section blank if you are a current undergraduate or postgraduate student. If we require this information to assess your application we will contact you by email. English Language Ability Please leave this section blank. If we require this information to assess your application we will contact you by email. Industrial/Professional Experience Please leave this section blank. If we require this information to assess your application we will contact you by email. Once you have completed all of the relevant questions on this page, please click Next to go to the next page. We will treat this information as confidential and will not use it to inform selection decisions. Step 5: Application Inspector This tool will help you to review your application to make sure that you have answered all of the compulsory questions. It is not necessary to answer all of the recommended questions, so please check this guidance document to see whether or not they should be answered. Once you have made sure that you have completed all of the compulsory questions and have provided all of the information requested in this guidance document, you may proceed to the next page. Step 6: Submit Application Before final submission, please check all of the sections thoroughly to make sure that you have completed them correctly and have provided us with all of the information that we need to process your application. Once you are happy with your application, enter your electronic signature (type your name) and then click Submit My Application Now.
