The Code sets the standards of behaviour expected of you both in and out of work. Applying for registration You can complete an application for registration and submit this to the SSSC from your MySSSC account. When you are filling out your form you can save your progress and return to this at any time. You will need to send supporting documents to the SSSC separately. From your MySSSC homepage you should select to start a new application. To help you while you complete your application form, you will be presented with guidance documents which are specific to applying for registration, you should open the most relevant guidance document. We will ask you to tell us which part of the SSSC Register you are applying for registration on. If you need further information on the parts of the SSSC Register, you will find this on our website using the following link: If you are not sure which part to choose you must discuss this with your employer, who can advise you which part of the register is applicable to you. The SSSC will not be able to advise you which part of the Register you should choose. Please note the Register for social service workers is function based, rather than qualification based. This means that an applicant must be carrying out the relevant duties in a service registered by the Care Inspectorate, rather than holding a MySSSC Guidance Page 10

We also need to be sure that there are no reasons why the SSSC should not be assured of your competence and good character and your suitability for registration. To help us with this, we ask you to have your application endorsed. Who can endorse your application? We require people who endorse applications to be senior managers in the organisation, who are in a position to comment on your suitability for registration. We may wish to contact you further depending on the information you tell us, or to ask you to provide further information. The information will be submitted for us to process. When using Tell the SSSC please provide as detailed information as possible. MySSSC Guidance Page 28

30 Renewing my registration My details You should ensure that all your personal and contact details are correct. We will use your and telephone details to communicate with you. You need to update your details if anything changes. If your name is different to the name we hold for you, you will need to change this by returning to your homepage and selecting the option Change of Name. You must send a verified photocopy of your marriage certificate, affidavit, deed poll or other relevant document as evidence of your change of name. The photocopy should be signed, name printed and dated by the person who endorses your application or by an appropriate line manager within your care service. Please note: if this evidence is not submitted we will not be able to update your record. You will find further information on the verification process on our website at the following link: Register part You cannot change the part of the Register during your renewal. You can only renew your registration on the same part of the SSSC Register If you need to change Register part you need to submit a new online application form for your new part of the SSSC Register. Newly qualified social worker renewals MySSSC Guidance Page 30

31 If you are currently registered as a newly qualified social worker, the renewal will automatically update to indicate that you will be renewing as a social worker. You are only on the part of the SSSC Register for newly qualified social workers for your first period of registration while you undertake the specific PRTL requirements for that part of the Register. Employment This section of your renewal will display the current employment details that we hold for you. Please note social workers and students are unique in that they can remain on the SSSC Register when unemployed or retired, whereas all other parts of the register require the registrant to be employed. Changing to another part of the SSSC Register This allows you to tell us that you wish to be removed from one part of the SSSC Register and complete an application to apply for another part of the SSSC Register. Your existing registrations(s) will be displayed so select the part of the Register from the list. This will then prompt you for a removal date. This should be the date you ceased employment in the role associated with this Register part. You will then see a message asking you to complete an application for the new part of the Register that applies to you. Please note: you won t see any changes you make straight away. The information will be submitted to us to process. Once we have processed this change you will be sent a Notice of Decision to advise you are no longer eligible and our decision is to remove you from the SSSC s Register. You will have 14 days to appeal this decision. If no appeal is made within the 14 days you will be removed from the SSSC s Register. MySSSC Guidance Page 31

32 Change employment details This will allow you to update your employment details and add new information. Your existing registration(s) will be displayed so select the Register part. The current employment(s) associated with this Register record will then display, allowing you to select the employment you need to update. You will then be prompted to tell us a Finish Date and Reason for Leaving. Please note: you won t see any changes you make straight away. The information will be submitted to us to process. Add new employment details This will allow you to add details of new employment All employment must contain a link to a care service or organisation (registered with the Care Inspectorate). If you have two or more new social care employers please click add another and add more employment details. When using the list to find your employer you will be able to search on care service name, care service number or postcode. If your place of employment is not on the list, you should contact our registration department for further assistance on If you are retired or unemployed, you will only be required to provide a start date for this employment status. Please note: that in order to remain eligible to be registered on all parts of the SSSC Register, with the exception of social workers and students, you must be employed. It will not be mandatory to create a new employment record, but if you do not add a new employment you won t be able to remain on the SSSC Register, unless you are already registered as a social worker or student. No longer working This option should only be used to tell us that you wish to be removed from the SSSC Register completely, unless you are registered as a social worker or student MySSSC Guidance Page 32

33 because if you are registered as a social worker or student you can remain on the SSSC Register without having any current employment. Your existing registrations(s) will be displayed, you will need to select whichever one is relevant or select each one individually if more than one applies. This will prompt you for a removal date. This date should be the date that your employment ceased. Qualifications You will only be required to complete this part of your renewal if you have been registered with the SSSC with a qualification condition. If you have met the condition(s) on your registration you should add the qualification you have now gained by finding it on the approved list. Ensure you select the correct qualification, for the correct register part. You must now provide a verified copy of your qualification certificate as evidence of meeting your condition. A verified copy means that the photocopy should be signed, name printed and dated by the person who endorsed your application or by an appropriate line manager within your care service. Your qualification certificate(s) must be from the awarding body. You should send your verified copy of your qualification certificate to us at: Scottish Social Services Council Compass House 11 Riverside Drive MySSSC Guidance Page 33

34 DUNDEE DD1 4NY If you do not submit evidence of your qualification certificate we will treat this as not meeting your condition and we will contact your further. You are not required to send us your original qualification certificate. If you cannot provide evidence of meeting your qualification condition we will ask you for a full and detailed explanation of this. And this information will be considered in relation to your continued suitability to remain registered. Regulatory bodies If you are renewing your registration and are currently registered with one of the following regulatory bodies you are not eligible for registration with the SSSC with the exception of social workers and students. If you are a social worker or student you can be registered with the SSSC and another regulatory body. General Dental Council General Medical Council General Teaching Council for England General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland General Teaching Council Scotland General Teaching Council for Wales Nursing and Midwifery Council General Pharmaceutical Council Health Care Professions Council Care Council for Wales Northern Ireland Social Care Council You only need to tell us about any new information since your application. For example if you were previously registered with another regulatory body and your registration has now ceased. MySSSC Guidance Page 34

35 Offences You must declare any offences since your application for registration You will be required to provide a brief but detailed summary of the incident, the date of the offence, the police station or court that dealt/is dealing with the incident and if applicable confirm the sanction you received and finally confirm the offence type. If you have two or more offences please click add another and enter your offence details. Disciplinary You must declare any disciplinary action since your application for registration You are required to provide details of the disciplinary matter, the date of the incident, the outcome and also contact details for the person the SSSC should contact should we require further information. If you have two or more disciplinary matters to declare please select add another and enter your additional disciplinary details. Personal declaration Your renewal cannot be submitted or accepted without completing the personal declaration. You should; read the personal declaration statements and tick each box to confirm you accept these terms tick the signed box; by ticking this you are confirming that you have accepted all the statements within the personal declaration. MySSSC Guidance Page 35

36 Endorsement Do I need to get my renewal endorsed? Yes - If you are registered as a newly qualified social worker you must have your renewal form endorsed. No - If you are registered on any other part of the register you do not need to have your renewal form endorsed. You will see a list of people form your organisation who are suitable to make an endorsement, you should select the most appropriate person from the list. Some organisations have specific people they want all endorsements to be sent to so it may be worth checking with your employer to see if this is the case. You should select to save this information. Once you have finished filling out your renewal you can then submit this to be digitally endorsed by the person you selected. When you do this we will send an to that person telling them that you have sent a renewal for them to digitally endorse. After you submit your renewal to be digitally endorsed you will not be able to make any changes to any of the sections, so you should make sure that you are happy with all the information you have provided before you submit it to be digitally endorsed. When your renewal has been digitally endorsed we will send you an to tell you that this has happened, you should then complete the payment section and submit this to us to process. If the endorser doesn t make the endorsement within after seven days, and hasn t requested further time to do this, we will send an to you and you can choose to do one of the following: you can re-send your renewal application to the same person to be endorsed you can send your renewal application to a different person from your organisation (if they have more than 1) you can print your application and take this to the person who will endorse your form with a handwritten signature along with your supporting documents for verification.
