SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY SIGNIFICANT RANKINGS AND DISTINCTIONS Renowned for its academic excellence, San Diego State University is home to topranking programs in international business, entrepreneurship, speech-language pathology, geography and other areas. Below are highlights of the significant rankings and distinctions SDSU has received recently. For the past four years, SDSU has been ranked the No. 1 most productive research university in the nation, among schools with 14 or fewer Ph.D. programs based on the Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index by Academic Analytics. SDSU is designated a research university with high research activity by the Carnegie Foundation. Peers in this group include George Washington University, Syracuse University, Texas Tech University and the University of Oregon. In 2010, 10,492 degree candidates were approved to participate in annual commencement ceremonies, the most in at least a decade. Forbes Magazine has ranked SDSU as one of the top colleges for getting rich among state universities nationwide. The ranking was based on the nation s leading public universities that produce top earning alums. SDSU ranked in the top 50. SDSU ranks No. 20 in the nation for racial diversity and among the top universities for economic diversity according to U.S. News & World Report s America s Best Colleges 2010. Since 2000, SDSU faculty and staff have attracted more than $1 billion in grants and contracts for research and program administration. Entrepreneurship SDSU was ranked No. 27 in entrepreneurship according to U.S. News & World Report s America s Best Graduate Schools 2008 Guide. SDSU s undergraduate entrepreneur program was listed in Fortune Magazine s top 25 list of America s Best Colleges for Entrepreneurs last ranked in August 2007. SDSU was ranked No. 19 in the nation among universities for entrepreneurs in the U.S. in Entrepreneur Magazine s Top 100 Colleges and Universities for Entrepreneurs last ranked in 2007. Fine Arts SDSU s School of Art, Design and Art History is one of the top fine arts programs in the nation (No. 58) according to U.S. News and World Report s America s Best Graduate Schools 2009.

SDSU ranks among the top universities for economic diversity U.S. News & World Report s America s Best Colleges 2010 International SDSU offers 335 international education programs in 52 countries. Twenty-five SDSU programs now require international experience for graduation. SDSU ranks No. 2 among universities of its type nationwide and No. 1 in California for students studying abroad as part of their college experience. Institute of International Education. Nearly 12,000 students have studied abroad in the past 12 years: a 900% increase in that time. A record 10 SDSU students or recent alumni were selected as Fulbright Scholars in 2010. SDSU s international business MSBA program ranks No. 20 in the nation, Schools 2010. SDSU s undergraduate international business program ranks No. 11 in the nation, according to U.S. News and World Report s America s Best Colleges 2010. The International Business Program at SDSU is one of the largest undergraduate international business programs in the country, serving more than 850 students annually. SDSU is home to the first-ever MBA program in global entrepreneurship. As part of the program, students study at four universities worldwide, including the Indian

Institute of Management, Lucknow (NOIDA campus); University of Hyderabad; United Arab Emirates Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT); American University of Beirut and is currently negotiating partnerships with universities in China. SDSU is the first U.S. university to offer a transnational triple degree program in international business. In fact, SDSU has the only two such programs in the country. Undergraduate students earn degrees from SDSU and universities in Mexico and Canada in the CaMexUs program, or degrees from SDSU, Mexico and Chile in the PanAmerica program. SDSU and Universidad Autónoma de Baja California in Mexico offered the first transnational dual degree between the United States and Mexico in 1994 through the Mexus/International Business program. SDSU s international business program also runs transnational dual degree programs with Brazil, Canada, Chile and Mexico. SDSU s Language Acquisition Resource Center is one of nine sites selected by the U.S. Department of Education to serve as a National Language Resource Center. SDSU s American Language Institute is one of the largest university-based English as a Second Language (ESL) learning programs in the U.S. SDSU s International Security and Conflict Resolution (ISCOR) major is the first of its kind in California. Research For the fourth consecutive year, SDSU is ranked as the No. 1 most productive research university nationwide among schools with 14 or fewer Ph.D. programs based on the Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index. SDSU faculty received more than $150 million in grants and contracts for research and administering programs during fiscal year 2009-2010, the most of any California State University campus. SDSU faculty members have received a total of more than $1.1 billion in external funding since 2000. SDSU received more than $29 million in research funding from the National Institutes of Health alone in 2008 2009, a record for the university. The university ranked No. 48 in the nation for NIH funding and received more NIH funding than each of the following states: Alaska, Idaho, Nevada, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming. SDSU serves as host institution for CSUPERB, which is designed to channel resources from the entire California State University system and catalyze interdisciplinary, inter-campus, synergistic endeavors involving biology and chemistry departments (including biotechnology research and applications), as well as engineering, agriculture and computer science. CSUPERB also serves as the official liaison between the CSU and industry, government, the Congressional Biotechnology Caucus and the public arena in all biotechnological matters. SDSU s MS in regulatory affairs a key area of the biotech industry is one of only two programs of its kind in the country and is considered the most comprehensive.

Community Service SDSU is a recognized leader in innovative efforts to improve urban K 12 education. SDSU s programs in this area include: City Heights Educational Collaborative: The City Heights Educational Collaborative, begun in 1998, is a unique, ongoing partnership between SDSU, the San Diego Unified School District, the San Diego Education Association and Price Charities. The primary goals of the Collaborative are to positively impact the academic achievement of students in three City Heights schools - Rosa Parks Elementary, Monroe Clark Middle and Hoover High - and to improve upon the way educational professionals working in the inner-city are trained and supported.
