Editing Edugame Templates Create a New Folder on your computer for templates: From the Windows desktop, double-click the My Documents folder Click on File/New/Folder Doubleclick Give the folder a name (ex- EduGames). This creates a new folder, EduGames, within your My Documents folder. Do not close this dialog box. Leave it open while continuing to follow the steps in this manual. Save the game templates to your computer: From the Windows desktop, double-click My Computer Double-click D:\ Double-click 2

Open the PowerPoint EduGames folder by double-clicking it Click on Edit/Select All. The files will be highlighted in blue. Click on Edit/Copy Close the dialog box by clicking the X in the upper right corner 3

The My Documents folder should still be open on your desktop. Open the EduGames folder by double-clicking on it. Save the files into this folder by clicking Edit/Paste. The EduGames templates and related files should now be saved on your computer under C:\My Documents\EduGames. Remove the EduGames Templates CD from your D:\ drive and keep it in a safe place. From this point on you can edit the EduGames templates on your computer to create new games. Open and Rename the template: 1. Double-click the game template file to open it. For example, open the Wheel of Fortune template file. It is located at C:\My Documents\EduGames\Wheel of Fortune\Wheel Template 2. Select File/Save As 3. Give it a new file name, such as Wheel of History You can rename the other game templates in the same manner. 4

Edit the new EduGame file: 1. If the file is not already open, locate the Wheel of History file that was created in the step above and open it. 2. On Slide 1, type in a title and subtitle for the puzzle. 3. Click on Slide 2, the game screen, has 55 slots for letters: 11 columns and 5 rows. Select Edit/Copy, then Edit/Paste to create more than one game screen. **Continue to click Edit/Paste until you have the desired number of blank game screens needed. 4. Decide how the puzzle will be laid out on the game screen, including letters and spaces. (An easy way to arrange the layout of the puzzle would be to open Excel and use rows 1-5 and columns A-K.) 5

5. For each box in the puzzle that will have no letters, you will change it to display as a blank red box: a. Select the first yellow rectangle. Hold down the Shift key on the keyboard. Click all rectangles on the puzzle screen that are not part of the answer. As you click each rectangle, small square handles will appear on the corners. b. After all rectangles have been selected, press the Backspace or Delete key on the keyboard. The rectangles will turn red. 6. For each letter in the puzzle: a. Right-click inside the yellow rectangle. Be sure the text box is selected. Note: All the letters in the template are the letter T. b. Select Hyperlink/Edit Hyperlink c. In the top field on the Edit Hyperlink dialogue box, delete the T and type in the letter you want for that square. 6

Change the T to the letter you want. Select the slide you are working on d. Under Select a place in this. select the slide you are working on (because we copied slide 2 all of the slides are linked to this one) e. Select OK 7. On the bottom of Slide 2, type in a category name for the puzzle, such as Famous Landmarks. 8. Save the file. Play the game: **If the letters in the phrase appear when you begin viewing/playing the show you need to close the program and restart. 1. The first screen will be the welcome screen and the theme song will play. 2. Click or use the arrow key to go to the next screen. 3. The second screen should automatically fill in the spaces where letters appear for this puzzle. 4. The category title should fly in from the left, and a begin puzzle sound should play. 7

5. The teacher or student who is playing the role of game show host must have a key for the puzzle showing what each rectangle contains. (You can use the plan you created in Step 3 under Edit the New EduGame file section.) 6. The contestants guess a letter as they take turns. 7. If the letter is in the puzzle, the moderator clicks on the corresponding rectangle to reveal the letter. The contestant may select another letter. 8. If the letter is not in the puzzle, the moderator clicks on the icon on the bottom right of the screen. A wrong answer sound should play. The next contestant now has a turn. 9. Contestants do not have to buy vowels. To make the game more challenging, each contestants can only guess one vowel each, or no vowels may be guessed until each contestant has guessed at least one correct consonant. 10. The game is over when a contestant correctly identifies the puzzle. 11. Go to the last slide to say, Thank you, Vanna! 8
