A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM SHOSHANNA People often expect that their body will stay vibrant and well forever, without making a conscious effort otherwise. For some people it works that way and for others it doesn't. To be safe, it s advisable to be good to your body, showing it how much you appreciate all it does for you. An excellent way to give back to your body is to experience a therapeutic massage. Massage is an essential way for you to maintain your physical and energetic body in good working order. It accomplishes this through increasing blood circulation, alleviating soreness, releasing muscular knots, increasing joint range of motion, relaxing the entire body, and creating an overall sense of well being and peace. It s simple, all you have to do is lay comfortably on the massage table, relax, and allow your muscular tension to release. Our experienced and nurturing massage therapist will do the work as she applies her expert healing techniques to your musculature. A massage session also provides the much needed quiet time to connect with your inner self. In our society, people often avoid this by staying busy all the time. It makes them feel like they are accomplishing things, but are they really? It s important to be in touch with your thoughts and feelings, rather than ignoring they exist. Becoming more cognizant and dealing with your inner feelings during a deep, healing massage can bring more inner peace and meaning into your life.
GETTING IN TOUCH WITH YOUR INNER SELF When you get into the massage room, turn off your cell phone and at the same time turn off any thoughts to do with the busi-ness of your day. Take your time removing your clothes and jewelry and tune into your physical body as you do so. Take a few deep breaths and reconnect with yourself. Slip your body under the sheets and feel the massage table under you. Close your eyes and take a few more deep breaths as you feel yourself getting heavier on the table, allowing gravity to pull evenly on all parts of your body. When the massage therapist comes in the room, open your eyes and tell them briefly what if anything is bothering you and what you would like them to address during the massage. After that, close your eyes again and remain silent for the remainder of the session unless you need to share something you are experiencing during the session. Take regular deep breaths throughout the massage, especially when the massage therapist is working in an area that holds more tension for you. Listen closely to the communication that is happening within your own mind. Feel your feelings, listen to your thoughts, and trust them to better connect with yourself. Explore to see what it is you need to make your life more whole. When the massage is complete get up slowly and get dressed. Make notes of anything that you want to remember from your inner exploration. Connecting with your inner self can be as simple as that right there on the massage table. Therapeutic massage is unbelievably fantastic and can make a profound difference in the way you feel and look. You just have to make the time for it. And not just once or twice a year, but on a regular basis. I see it as a basic necessity of life. Having therapeutic massage is a way to: take care of your body reconnect with your inner self keep your blood flowing freely let go of years of tension dissolve knots in your body remove neck, shoulder and back pain increase range of motion create inner peace and harmony We have the best massage therapists you will find anywhere. I have hand picked (literally) each one of them. It is important to have someone working on you who is balanced themselves, someone you can trust. Each of our massage therapists is highly trained and professional. They share their unique gift of touch to provide healing for the mind, body and spirit.

RED BANK ACUPUNCTURE & WELLNESS CENTER OFFERS CHAIR MASSAGE Chair Massage can last anywhere from ten minutes to one hour. It is usually done with the client fully clothed sitting on a specially designed massage chair. Chair massage can be provided at our center or we could arrange for our practitioner(s) to come to your place of work, home, or even provide massage to your party guests. DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE Deep Tissue Massage is designed to reach the deep portions of your thick muscles, specifically the individual muscle fibers. The massage therapist employs deep muscle compression and friction along the grain of the muscle to release the muscle fibers, toxins and deeply held patterns of tension. HOT STONE MASSAGE Stone massage involves the application of water-heated basalt stones of varying sizes to key points on the body, giving a deep massage and creating sensations of comfort and warmth. The direct heat relaxes muscles, allowing manipulation of a greater intensity than with regular massage. MYOFASCIAL RELEASE Myofascial Release technique was developed in the late 1960's by John Barnes. It works through the manipulation of the body s fascia, a saran wrap kind of tissue that holds together and connects our muscles, arteries, bones, and organs. Because fascia is body-wide, a tension or trauma in one part of the body can affect another part. The application of Myofascial Release releases the adverse effects of inflammation, tensions and trauma. NEUROMUSCULAR THERAPY Neuromuscular Therapy facilitates recovery from acute and chronic pain syndromes through the utilization of muscle-specific massage therapy, including the release of trigger points. This approach brings about balance between the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system. It enhances the function of joints and muscles, enhances movement, and releases endorphins. PREGNANCY (PRE-NATAL) MASSAGE Pregnancy places strong demands on a woman's body and is a time for the body to be nurtured and pampered. Pregnancy massage helps a woman adjust to carrying around extra weight and deal with the shift in her center of gravity. This form of massage also relieves tension, reduces swelling, soothes the nervous system, reduces fatigue, and enhances energy.
FOOT REFLEXOLOGY Foot Reflexology was popularized in the United States by physiotherapist Eunice Inghram in the 1930s. It is an acupressure technique performed on the feet. It is based on the belief that each part of the body has a corresponding reflex point on the foot. Crystalline-type deposits and/or tenderness found during the application of this technique which are believed to indicate a dysfunction in the corresponding body part. Manual manipulation of that reflex point is done to stimulate the natural energy of the related organ, clear congestion and restore normal functioning of the body. SHIATSU Shiatsu which is the most widely known form of acupressure literally means "finger pressure" in Japanese. It has been practiced for more than a thousand years in Japan. A Shiatsu practitioner uses rhythmic pressure from 3 to 10 seconds on specific points along the body's meridians by using the fingers, hands, elbows, knees, and sometimes feet to unblock and stimulate the flow of vital energy. A session may also include gentle stretching to increase the range-of-motion. Shiatsu is traditionally performed to release pain, relax the body, and maintain general health. SPORT MASSAGE This special form of massage is typically used before, during, and after athletic events to prepare the athlete for peak performance. It is done to increase energy, relieve swelling, reduce muscle tension, promote flexibility, and prevent injuries. Depending on the needs of the athlete, a variety of techniques are used including classic Swedish strokes, cross-fiber friction, pressure-point work, and joint mobilization. SWEDISH MASSAGE Swedish massage is now known as "traditional" massage. In the 1820 s a Swedish doctor, Dr. Per Henrik Ling, developed the first modern method of massage through his study of physiology, gymnastics, and the massage techniques borrowed from China, Egypt, Greece, and Rome. Swedish massage includes long gliding strokes, kneading, friction, tapping, and shaking motions. It is effective because massaging the skin, the body's largest organ, sets up a chain reaction that produces a positive effect on all layers and systems of the body. It affects the nerves, muscles, glands, and blood circulation as it promotes health and wellbeing.
AROMATHERAPY CAN BE USED DURING YOUR MASSAGE Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils for curative and rejuvenating effects. Dating back to ancient Egypt, India, and the Far East, this simple therapy has been used for centuries to reduce stress and tension, refresh and invigorate the body, soothe emotions, and clear the mind. After an initial discussion with the client, specific essential oils are used in conjunction with other appropriate techniques, such as massage, acupressure, or reflexology. Used in oils, the essential oil is absorbed through the skin and into the body to affect physiological change. When inhaled the aroma directly affects the limbic area of the brain that is related to emotions and memories. TRY USING LAVENDER AROMATHERAPY AT HOME Lavender is and has been very widely used for centuries. An infusion of lavender applied topically is traditionally known to soothe and heal insect bites. Bunches of lavender hung in a room are also said to ward off insects. Lavender oil applied to the temples is known to soothe headaches. Lavender is also used as an aid to sleep, with the seeds and flowers of the plant added to pillows. The constituents of the oils found in lavender are also used to treat hyperactivity, insomnia, flatulence, bacteria, fungus, microbial activity on gums, and airborne molds. To promote a soothing and relaxing atmosphere, you can purchase a lavender spray at the health food store and spritz it around your home.
