Planning Wedding Directing Whether you plan to do the wedding planning yourself or use the expertise of a wedding consultant, you will learn the details of planning a wedding. You will receive instruction in setting a timeline, etiquette, budget responsibilities, rehearsal, and elegance in style. Special emphasis will be place on properly directing a wedding. No book required for class. Cake Decorating for Beginners In this class you will learn how to ice your cake evenly, make a decorative border around the cake, icing flowers, roses and pansies and simple writing techniques. At the end of the class, your cake will look professionally finished. A list of supplies will be given on the first day of class and there will be an extra cost for supplies. 1 Cake Decorating - Intermediate In this class, students will learn more intermediate techniques for working with both buttercream and fondant. This class will also focus on the proper stacking of a multi-tiered cake. At the end of the class, you will have learned how to create a professional looking multi-tiered custom cake. A list of supplies will be given on the first day of class. There is an extra cost for supplies.

Introduction to Floral Design This course is designed to give students the basic skills, knowledge and confidence to make their own silk and fresh floral arrangements. Upon completion, you will have covered different design elements, color combinations, floral care and materials used by floral industry. Students will get hands-on instruction and consultation. Bring your personal choice of silk flowers. No textbook required. Card Making Basics In this course students will learn the basic building blocks for creating HANDMADE cards. Some of the basic techniques will include folding and scoring the cardstock, heat embossing, distressing your papers and many more that can easily transfer to scrapbooking as well! Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to create two handmade card creations. Serv Safe Certification This course will cover food sanitation and safety basics. It is designed to create a foundation for food service professionals to learn and develop safe food practices and to train and engage others. By the end of the course, the participants will be able to conduct an internal food safety audit by creating a HACCP plan and establishing a safe food handling regimen and monitoring safe food practices. Upon successfully completing the course, participants will receive a certified nationally recognized and accepted Serv Safe Certification. There is a book for class, but it is optional to purchase. 5 Personal Fitness Certification Become a CERTIFIED PERSONAL TRAINER! This challenging course is taught over a 5-week period for better retention and skill competency. The National Exam is held on the 6th week. This course is formatted as a 60-hour program and is comprised of 15 hours of lecture, 15 hours of practical training and a 30-hour internship that networks many graduates right into a job. It covers topics including biomechanics, exercise physiology, fitness testing, and equipment usage and health assessment. CPR/AED is needed to receive the certificate. W.I.T.S. is the only major certifying body in the country providing comprehensive practical training and internship components. Notary If you are at least 18 years old, have never been convicted of a felony, have a High School diploma or GED and can satisfactorily complete this workshop, you can apply for your Notary Public Commission. The Notary Public Guidebook (10th Edition) is required and is available in the GTCC bookstore for $25.75. You must purchase this from the campus bookstore where the course will be taught PRIOR to class. If you arrive to class without your guidebook, you will not be allowed to attend the class. Please bring a photo I.D. (Driver s License) to your class.

Financial Planning for Retirees This course covers the main areas of concern for the retiree s finance: investment planning, income tax planning and risk management. Specific topics include, proper portfolio balance, reducing probate costs and estate taxes, reducing federal and NC income taxes and long-term care planning. How to Become a Life Coach This course will bring focus to life coaching which is a wide and fast growing field. Life coaches specialized in all areas, careers and personal growth. Students must have a deep desire for listening, studying and commitment to others. Learning outcomes are what is/is not Life Coaching?, who needs a coach, in-depth overview of types of coaches and what makes an excellent coach, do you identify with coaching and reviewing your strengths and opportunities in coaching. POLICIES Course Repetition Policy In 1993, the N.C. legislature enacted a law that requires anyone, including senior citizens, who takes the same occupational extension course more than twice within a five-year period to pay an additional cost of $6.41-$7.12 per scheduled hour. You are exempt from this policy if you are required by law to have certification/licensure. Who May Register? If you are 18 years old or older, you may register for a course. Applicants who are still enrolled in high school, but are at least 16 years of age, should secure authorization from their high school principal in the form of a letter. A letter must be secured each term the student wishes to take a course(s). When To Register You may register for a course up to the first day of class, but late registration is discouraged to be sure you get the classes you want. You may not be allowed to enter classes after the starting date. After You Register Plan to attend the classes you registered for as scheduled. You will not be contacted unless there is a change in the class schedule. Dropping and Adding Classes If you want to drop a class and receive a refund, please contact the Departmental Coordinator or the Continuing Education Registrar s Office. The amount of your refund will depend on when you drop the class. See the refund policy. If you want to add a class, you can register up until the first day of class. You can replace one course with another if they have the same registration fee if and is approved by the Departmental Coordinator. Fees, Books, Supplies Registration fees, which are listed with each class description, do not include the cost of textbooks or supplies. Fees are set by the NC General Assembly and are based on the number of contact hours for each course. Some of the courses listed in this catalog require textbooks; textbooks are sold at the GTCC Bookstores: The Jamestown Bookstore is open Monday Thursday, 8a-8p; Friday, 8a-4p. The Greensboro bookstore is open Monday through Thursday, 9a-7p; Friday, 9a-12p. The High Point bookstore is open Monday through Thursday from 9a-7p; Friday, 9a-12p. You can also buy books online at: www.gtcc.bkstr.com. Some courses require supplies/materials and you are accountable for purchasing the necessary items. Students in all continuing education classes will be assessed a $5 CAPS fee to help cover expenses associated with providing campus access, parking and security at the college. Students can obtain parking stickers at any GTCC Campus Police office or the cashier office in Jamestown. Parking permits (stickers) are valid at all GTCC campuses. Some programs require malpractice insurance. These fees, where applicable, are included in the published course fee. Refunds The College will make a 100% refund of registration fees if you officially withdraw from class before the first class meeting. Also, if a class is canceled or full, GTCC will make a full refund. The College will refund 75% of the registration fee (of tuition only) if you officially withdraw from the class on the first day of class or before the class reaches the census date. The census date varies from class to class. Refunds are processed on a monthly basis. However, please allow 6-8 weeks to receive the refund. The College refund policy is established by state legislative action and is subject to change without prior notice to students. The refund policy stated above was in effect at the time this catalog was published. You can use the keyword AND or the keyword OR in your search criteria, but do not use AND and OR. When viewing the list of courses, you can click on the column headings to sort by that column. Click the Select button for each course so that it is put into the Selected Courses (Shopping Cart). When you have finished selecting courses, click the Register button. On the next form, you will be required to enter personal identification details including address, phone, social security number and email. You must pay at the time of registration to complete your enrollment. Register in person at our Jamestown, High Point, Greensboro Campus You may register in person by completing the Continuing Education Registration Form and bringing it along with your payment (check, cash, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover or money order) to one of the GTCC Campuses. Payment is due at the time registration. When paying in person with check or credit card, please bring two forms of ID. One must be a photo ID. Also, if paying with a credit or debit card, you must present the actual card to the cashier.
