We test theoretical knowledge against real-life experiences. A key question in our classroom is: what really works in the end? Dr Peter Lorange Lorange Not Only a Name, But a Spirit. Dr Peter Lorange, the owner of the Lorange Institute of Business Zurich, says: I have spent my entire working life in leading business schools, and have held leading positions in teaching, research, and administration. This includes more than a decade at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and seven years at the Sloan School, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I was also a visiting professor at Stockholm School of Economics. For four years I was President of the Norwegian School of Management (BI) in Oslo, and for 15 years President of IMD in Lausanne. Then I purchased what is now the Lorange Institute of Business Zurich. So, I am bringing a lot of know-how to the table, and I am putting this to use here. My ambition is to make good even better! I have the experience and credibility to make this happen. www.lorange.org/about Our Innovations. We have introduced several organizational innovations to achieve this goal: for example, you will find me together with our Chief Operating Officer, Dr Philipp Boksberger, at a long tradingroom style table in the lobby to make us more accessible, and to become more speedy. All of us here at the Lorange Institute realize that we live in a networked world. We keep administrative red tape to a minimum. Our Campus. All our modules are conducted at the modern Lorange Institute campus right on the shores of Lake Zurich, an ideal learning environment. Only fifteen minutes from the buzzing city and thirty minutes from Zurich s international airport, our Institute offers first-class learning resources, its own restaurant and a modern hotel within walking distance (ten minutes). And, there is an ample space for learning under the roof. Cutting-edge substance is key! Effective learning is a function of light, space, and beauty. And, outstanding pedagogy is also critical. To learn is inspirational and a privilege. A key aim for the Lorange Institute is to stimulate this positive view of learning. The Institute 5

Recognitions. Accreditation and certification are objective ways of measuring a business school s credentials. Thus, the quality of education, the school s facilities, the faculty, and the programs are under constant review as part of these processes. Out of the three leading accreditation agencies we have obtained this from the Association of MBAs London (AMBA), EFMD Brussels (EPAS), and are in the process of applying at the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business Tampa (AACSB). Due to our start-up situation as well as our innovative approach to management education we are currently not ranked by FT and others. However, the Lorange Institute is accredited, certified, and registered by several globally recognized organizations your assurance of the quality of our management education programs: Accredited by AMBA and EPAS Certified by eduqua Registered by Association of Swiss Private Schools, EFMD, and AACSB Validated by PRME, Principles for Responsible Management Education Swissness. In a world of change, you need a safe haven. In the heart of Europe, Switzerland stands for essential elements in your personal and business success: excellence, precision, reliability, stability, and sophistication. All our offerings are Swiss made. Zurich Living Case TM. Praxis is the key. That is why the Lorange Institute does not only apply traditional case study methodology but incorporates the concept of Zurich Living Case TM as a core element in the master programs. Senior management of a given company provides a scenario of key strategic issues face-to-face to the participants at the beginning of the module. Then the participants work as teams on these issues and prepare teambased reports, supervised by faculty members. They work closely together with these selected companies on intense, fast-paced consulting proj - ects. At the last day of the module, they present their recommendations to the respective senior management. We cultivate a thoroughly practical approach and combine theory and practice. Hands-on learning is provided through our Zurich Living Case TM in all five core modules. www.lorange.org/about General Information 7

High quality is a precondition. Flexibility is key! And the options offer good value. Raymond Bär Board Member, Julius Bär Group Keynote Speaker Program Structure. We offer you a unique opportunity to get regular management updates. The modularity is a major advantage, especially for highly dedicated executives. Join any module to leverage your management know-how. Every module has a clear focus on specific, cutting-edge topics. The modules will stimulate you with innovative content, not only from a world-class faculty but also from a network of highly motivated participants, who are executives from other corporations. Should you wish to gain deeper insights into a subject such as Behavioral Finance, Shipping, Talent Management or Modern Marketing you can move forward seamlessly with a Lorange Certificate. Should you choose to start a master program at the Lorange Institute after a single module or a Lorange Certificate, all credits will be simply transferred to the respective program and the already paid fee will be fully taken into account. The same procedure also applies for any transfer between the Lorange Certificate, EMSc, and EMBA programs (if the respective admission criteria are fulfilled). Specialists and Generalists. Today s world economy is highly specialized. Consequently, it makes sense to enhance your career with a specialization. To enter our Master of Science program you should have a genuine interest in a particular domain, looking to gain more in-depth knowledge of your area of specialty. At the Lorange Institute you can choose between four unique specializations. As a leader you need a wide array of other knowledge and skills. Leaders are generalists in a specialized world. The Executive MBA program will do more than propel your career. It is a transformational experience. It equips you with the necessary skills and knowledge, as well as a network, preparing you for leading positions in a globalized world. Executive MSc and MBA. The Lorange Institute s Executive Master programs can best be described as analogous to a stretch of railroad. When you reach the mid-station you shall receive our Executive Master of Science in Management degree with one out of four specializations: Behavioral Finance, Shipping, Talent Management or Modern Marketing. You may then continue your train ride and reach the end station, where you receive an Executive MBA. Each participant deals with theory before the start of a module. The Lorange Institute combines traditional scripts or text books with innovative computer-mediated activities on its e-learning platform. In-class exams are kept to a minimum. Students complete their degrees with a master thesis. The Lorange Institute and the Ashridge Business School have a highly regarded international validation process in place. Thus the value of your master s degree is enhanced by receiving a dual degree, which guarantees approval of the degrees throughout the European Union. 10 Program Structure

Finally you shall have to take the 2-day module on Essentials of Academic Work, and to write a Master Thesis [ ]. The illustrated example above shows our Executive MSc with a Major in Modern Marketing including the elective 12-day module on Leadership instead of Logistics. There is a choice of 1 out of 4 specializations: Behavioral Finance The world of banking is changing at a very fast pace. The recent turmoil in the global fi nancial industry has led many banks to rethink their strategies and policies regarding the balance between risk and return/reward as well as their client relationship. Shipping Shipping is an increasingly important element of our global economy and central to trade and logistics. Much of shipping is exposed to heavy swings in the underlying freight markets. Parts of shipping, however, are more stable, focused on highly specialized niches built through innovations. To secure shipping, fi nancing, and ma n- aging of large projects in today s environment has become an ever-escalating challenge. Talent Management The globalized economy creates demand for highly skilled, talented people. The war for talent has become a key task for all successful companies. Intellectual capital constitutes a fundamental cornerstone for the successful and sustainable development of the business and its human capital. Transform your next step into a giant leap with a degree from Lorange Institute. Dr Peter Lorange 10 Excellent Reasons to Enroll. Modular Study Program The Lorange Institute prescribes which modules need to be attended by the students within the framework of their study program. The students in turn can decide for themselves when to attend which module. Many modules are offered several times a year, so that students can enter into the course at any time, which provides them with a high degree of flexibility for arranging their individual study plans. World Class Faculty Our professors are global experts in their fields. They typically come from other academic institutions for short teaching stints at our business school, bringing with them the latest insights in the fields of management and business. Part-time Studying All study courses can be completed as a part-time scheme. Job absence is reduced to a minimum, as many modules are offered at weekends or as compact two week blocks. Modern Pedagogy The student deals with the theory several times in each module: before each module students work through a determined amount of special literature and take a pretest (test questions). This ensures that all students start the module with solid basic knowledge. Then the students deal with theory during the tutorial and during the evening team discussions. Finally the students complete an individual exam at the end of the module. Zurich Living Case TM A central element of each core module is the Zurich Living Case TM. Student teams elaborate solutions for consultancy tasks related to the subject at hand which are submitted to the Lorange Institute by different companies. Living Case solutions are presented by the teams to the representatives of the Living Case company. Meeting Place Culture The Lorange Institute is a debate forum, a meeting place where students, faculty members, and practitioners build networks and share insights, ideas and expertise. Dual Degree Successful graduates of an Executive MSc or Executive MBA study program are awarded both a Degree of the Lorange Institute of Business Zurich and a Degree of the Ashridge Business School. ECTS The modular programs provided by Lorange Institute are coordinated within the framework of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). Credits awarded for any module can be transferred to another study program. Lorange Campus All modules take place at the modern Lorange Campus in an ideal learning environment right on the shores of Lake Zurich. Accreditation The Lorange Institute supports the quality of our degree programs through globally recognized accreditations and certifications. 16 Features and Benefits
