Network solutions according to IEC 61158/EN 50170 PROFIBUS is the successful, open fieldbus which can be used in a wide range of applications. PROFIBUS is a bus system for process and field communication in cell networks with only a few stations and field devices, and for data communication according to IEC 61158/EN 50 170. Automation equipment such as PLCs, PCs, HMI devices, sensors or actuators can communicate using a uniform bus. This means that a wide range of PROFIBUS products from Siemens or other vendors can be used together in one PROFIBUS network to solve automation tasks. PROFIBUS provides openness for interfacing standardized components from other vendors. Product Brief

Possible applications and benefits Component of TIA Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) represents a complete range of automation components comprising the maximum possible degree of integration, namely three-fold uniformity: A uniform software toolset supports all project phases covering hardware selection, programming, operation, diagnostics and maintenance. Data exchange on the PROFIBUS is characterized by openness and extremely short response times, especially in the distributed I/O. AS-Interface PROFIBUS Industrial Ethernet Industrial Mobile Communication Industrial Ethernet is used for data communication down to the field level. It is used between PLCs, or between PLCs and intelligent partners (PCs, computers etc.). Industrial Ethernet offers industrial-compatible communication components with which both electrical and optical networks can be configured. The ranges are almost unlimited when using switching technology. In addition, the Industrial Mobile Communication (IMC) offered by SIMATIC NET provides facilities for mobile communication which can be easily incorporated into your network structure. Information is therefore available everywhere and at all times and mobile access to the intranet/ Internet is made possible. 2

The result is that rugged network components provide the backbone for the various demands of industrial communication (e.g. electrical, optical or wireless components, use in the production or process industry). Communications processors are used to connect stations to the network and are available in different designs and performance classes, as well as for different applications, depending on the target system. PROFIBUS is used to connect field devices such as distributed I/O stations or drives to automation systems such as SIMATIC S7, SIMOTION or PCs. The following different versions of PROFIBUS are available in line with the application sectors: Process or field communication PROFIBUS DP for fast, cyclic data exchange with field devices. PROFIBUS PA for process automation applications in intrinsically-safe areas. Data communication PROFIBUS FMS for data communication between PLCs and field devices. The PROFIBUS standardized to IEC 61158/EN 50170 is a powerful, open and rugged fieldbus system with short response times. PROFIBUS DP/PA is used if actuators/sensors on the machine or in the plant (e.g. field level) are widely distributed and can be spatially associated with one station (e.g. ET 200). The actuators/sensors are connected to the field devices which are provided with output data according to the master/slave procedure and deliver input data to the PLC or PC. PROFIBUS FMS is used for data communication between PLCs or between a PLC and intelligent partners (e.g. PCs, computers). Communication is possible with automation systems (e.g. PLCs, PCs) from different vendors. Communication with field devices with FMS interface is also possible. Safety Integrated with PROFIBUS Fail-safe automation systems are used to control processes to a safe status which can be directly achieved by switching off. In other words, fail-safe systems control processes whose direct switching off does not result in danger to persons or the environment. The application of fail-safe distributed I/O systems means that it is possible to replace the conventional safety design by PROFIBUS DP components. This applies, inter alia, to the replacement of switchgear for emergency-stop, safety door monitoring systems, and two-hand operation. 3

Possible applications Production automation Production lines with variable speeds or online control facilities for the plant, can be implemented using PROFIBUS DP e.g. in the food and drink industry. In order to permit fault-free production, it is essential to be able to flexibly modify variables. At the same time, plant availability is becoming increasingly important. Down times resulting from repairs are usually more expensive than appropriate monitoring of plants for wear or possible faults. Using powerful communication components it is possible to rapidly locate and signal faults. Process automation Process automation places high demands on performance and reliability and necessitates simple, safe operation of plants. PROFIBUS PA uses the fail-safe transmission technology defined in the international standard IEC 61158-2. This means that field devices in the hazardous area can be incorporated. The system is based on PROFIBUS DP which has been expanded for the intrinsically-safe area. The acyclic communication services of PROFIBUS DP(V1)/PA permit online access to device parameters, i.e. the process control systems have direct access to current field device data, to statuses and to diagnostics messages. Using PROFIBUS DP(V1)/PA, the field devices become an integral component of the company-wide automation concept, covering control, asset management, spare parts management and stockkeeping. Possible applications Building automation Networking of large buildings, or parts of buildings, permits central or distributed access to all stations. Not only residential or functional buildings, but also all industrial plants contain electrical installations. Most equipment, including building services, is driven by electrical power, e.g. illumination, heating, air-conditioning, ventilation, shutters or access control. These systems must be controlled and monitored just like those for industrial automation. Higher-level automation tasks that are solved using powerful PROFIBUS devices can now also be linked to the distributed instabus EIB stations using the DP/EIB link. Access is then possible to the sensor signals of the electrical equipment, e.g. signals from temperature sensors, anemometers or simple pushbuttons. Building automation 5

0 1 0 1 PROFIBUS Networking possibilities electrical networks Siemens offers a comprehensive range of PROFIBUS network components for electrical, optical and wireless transmission systems. PROFIBUS is standardized according to IEC 61158/EN 50170 for universal automation (PROFIBUS FMS and PROFIBUS DP) as well as to IEC 61158-2 for process automation (PROFIBUS PA). PC S7-400 Electrical network The electrical network uses a shielded, twisted pair cable. The RS 485 interface operates using voltage differences. It is therefore less sensitive to interferences than a voltage or current interface. With PROFIBUS, the stations are connected to the bus using a bus terminal or bus connector (max. 32 stations per segment). The electrical network can be configured with a bus or tree structure. The individual segments are connected using repeaters. The transmission rate can be adjusted in steps from 9.6 kbit/s to 12 Mbit/s according to IEC 61158/EN 50170. The maximum segment length depends on the transmission rate. PROFIBUS PA with transmission according to IEC 61158-2 is used for intrinsically-safe applications. The transmission rate in this case is 31.25 kbit/s. The fiber-optic cable is provided with a coating. PG ET 200S ET 200X Repeater Drive Optical networks are particularly suitable for large distances. Networking possibilities optical networks Optical PROFIBUS with OLMs Optical link modules (OLMs) permit the design of an optical network with a linear, ring or star structure. The redundant ring structure means that a network structure can be configured to satisfy increased availability demands. The maximum distance between two OLMs is 15 km. The transmission rate can be adjusted in steps from 9.6 kbit/s to 12 Mbit/s. OLM OLM OLM OLM Optical PROFIBUS with integral interface and OBT The optical PROFIBUS with integral interface and OBT is designed with a linear structure. A cost-optimized solution is available for this in the form of devices with an integral optical interface. Data terminals with RS 485 interface can be connected using an optical bus terminal (OBT). The maximum distance between two stations is 50 m when using a plastic fiber-optic cable. Special fiber-optic cables are available for covering distances up to 300 m. The transition between the two media is implemented using the OLM. As far as communication between stations on the bus is concerned, there is no difference between the two-wire and fiber-optic technologies. A maximum of 127 stations can be connected to a PROFIBUS network. Wireless coupling Wireless coupling of individual or multiple PROFIBUS slaves or slave segments is possible using the PROFIBUS infrared link module (ILM). With a maximum transmission rate of 1.5 Mbit/s and a maximum range of 15 m, communication is possible with moving components, e.g. with automated guided vehicles (AGVs), or as a substitute for systems subject to wear (sliprings, contact conductors). network components The FastConnect system FastConnect PROFIBUS FastConnect is a system for fast, easy and fault-free assembly of copper PROFIBUS cables on PROFIBUS bus connectors. The system comprises three compatible components: FastConnect bus cables for fast assembly FastConnect stripping tool FastConnect bus connector for PROFIBUS The PROFIBUS FastConnect bus cables can also be connected to conventional bus connectors. The special design of the PROFIBUS FastConnect cables permits use of the FastConnect stripping tool with which the outer sheath and the braided shield can be precisely removed in one operation. The cable prepared in this manner is connected in the PROFIBUS bus connectors using insulation displacement. Measure the cable length to be stripped by positioning the cable on the template. Limit using the index finger of your left hand. Rotate stripping tool several times in the direction of the arrow to strip the cable. Insert the measured end of the cable into the tool. The limit for the insertion depth is the index finger of your left hand. With the stripping tool closed, pull off from end of cable. Tighten end of cable in stripping tool up to the limit. Remove protective foil from conductors. Advantages of FastConnect system The connection times for terminals are reduced by fast, easy stripping of the outer sheath and the braided shield in one operation Assembly faults, such as a short-circuit between shield and conductor, are avoided Simple assembly possible using preset FC stripping tool The contact assignments can be checked when closed through the transparent cover of the insulation displacement connectors and the color coding. network components The SpliTConnect system SpliTConnect SpliTConnect for fieldbus systems is used for configuring fieldbus segments according to IEC 61158-2 (e.g. PROFIBUS-PA) with field device connecting points. The bus cable is easy to assemble thanks to the FastConnect connection system (FastConnect stripping tool, FC process cable according to IEC 61158-2). The FC process cable is stripped in the same way as for FastConnect. Additional grounding of the SpliTConnect tap can be implemented by a contacting screw. The terminals can be connected via the FC process cable according to IEC 61158-2 or the SpliTConnect M12 outlet or M12 jack. The SpliTConnect coupler can be used to construct a PROFIBUS-PA hub by cascading SpliTConnect taps. By replacing the contacting screw with the SpliTConnect terminator, the SpliTConnect tap can be used as a bus terminating element. Electrical network components Bus connectors The RS 485 bus connectors for PROFIBUS are used to connect a PROFIBUS station or PROFIBUS network component to the bus cable for PROFIBUS. There are various versions of the bus connectors which are optimized for the devices to be connected. Bus terminals The PROFIBUS bus terminals permit connection of a bus station to a PROFIBUS network. Various versions are available: Up to 1.5 Mbit/s: RS 485 bus terminal Up to 12 Mbit/s: 12M bus terminal. The bus terminals have a prepared device connection for PROFIBUS stations. The stations are simply connected to PROFIBUS networks by plugging on the spur line with Sub-D connector. Multi-point connections are possible for the 12M bus terminal by directly mounting several terminals side by side (up to 32 stations per segment). Active terminating element The active RS 485 terminating element is used to terminate bus segments. The power supply is independent of the bus stations. The terminating resistor is powered separately from the other I/O components either permanently or by a voltage connected from the I/O. As a result of the bus system termination, the stations (e.g. ET 200M/S) can be coupled or decoupled as required without resulting in any malfunctions. It enables transmission rates from 9.6 kbit/s to 12 Mbit/s (including 45.45 kbit/s for PROFIBUS PA). Electrical network components Diagnostics repeater Initiated by STEP 7 or COM PROFIBUS, the diagnostics repeater determines the bus system s topology and saves it in the internal diagnostics memory. In the event of a fault, the repeater automatically transmits a standard diagnostics message to the bus master containing information on: Affected segment Fault location (e.g. between stations Xand Y) Distance in meters of fault location from stations X and Y and from the repeater Type of fault The following faults are diagnosed: Open-circuit in data lines A, B Short-circuit between data line and shield Bus terminating resistor missing Sporadic faults are also detected. The error messages are displayed graphically in STEP 7 and COM PROFIBUS. They are completely incorporated into the SIMATIC system diagnostics (e.g. overview diagnostics, function "Signal system fault"). Power rail booster The power rail booster allows a PROFIBUS DP connection via a contact conductor as used, for example, with single-rail suspended railways or high-bay warehousing systems. The various PROFIBUS DP functions, such as diagnostics and PROFIsafe safety engineering via bus, can still be used. Fig. 17: Diagnostics repeater BT 200 hardware tester The BT 200 tester can be used during the installation phase to check the PROFIBUS cable. Installation faults are found rapidly and easily, and the installation engineers do not require any special PROFIBUS knowledge. The BT 200 permits the RS 485 interface of the PROFIBUS DP slave to be tested before the system is started up. Optical network components Optical link module OLM With PROFIBUS OLM (optical link modules), optical PROFIBUS networks can be configured in a linear, star or redundant ring topology. The transmission rate of a fiber-optic link is independent of the distance and can be up to 12 Mbit/s. Typical OLM applications include: PROFIBUS-based system buses Inter-building networking with glass FO cables Mixed networks with electrical and optical segments Networks with a wide expansion (road tunnels, traffic control systems) Networks with high availability requirements (redundant ring networks) OLM/G12-EEC for use at temperatures down to 20 C The optical link modules offer the following advantages: Automatic recognition of all PROFIBUS data transfer rates: 9.6 kbit/s to 12 Mbit/s including 45.45 kbit/s (PROFIBUS-PA). High availability by media redundancy. The distance between two OLMs in the redundant ring is only limited by the optical sensing range of the modules. In this way, it opens up the advantages of optical data transmission for existing DP units or network segments in combination with units having an optical interface (e.g. 200S FO). The OBT is also used as an "outlet" for connecting mobile units (e.g. programming device) without interrupting the bus. The PROFIBUS DP station is connected to the RS 485 interface of the OBT by a cable terminated at both ends, e.g. 830-1T connecting cable. The OBT is integrated into the optical line by two optical interfaces. Wireless network components Infrared link module ILM The infrared link module (ILM) enables a wireless PROFIBUS coupling for all protocols with a range of up to 15 m. Individual stations or slave segments can be linked at a transmission rate of up to 1.5 Mbit/s. The ILM is used: For communication with mobile stations, e.g. automated guided vehicles (AGVs) For communication with changing stations, e.g. stations along conveyor lines For fast system assembly and temporary configurations, e.g. test setups As a substitute for systems subject to wear, e.g. sliprings, contact conductors An ILM illuminates a circle 4 m in diameter from a distance of 11 m. Network transitions for PROFIBUS Network transitions between Industrial Ethernet, PROFIBUS, AS-Interface or EIB are implemented using links, PLCs or PCs. In the last two cases, integral interfaces and communications processors (CPs) can be used for the network transition. Network transitions implemented using a link pass on the data from one network to the next without further processing. These network transitions are the DP/PA link, the DP/PA coupler, the IE/PB link, the DP/EIB link or the DP/AS-Interface for transitions between the EIB, AS-Interface, PROFIBUS and Industrial Ethernet networks. With PLCs, e.g. the SIMATIC S7-300 or S7-400, data is exchanged between the individual networks using communications processors or integral interfaces. Linking of the data is either PLC based or PC based and thus passed on to the other network already preprocessed. PROFInet network transition with proxy functionality PROFInet is used by Siemens to implement Component based Automation. The advantages provided by component technology which have already been established in the software world are used for modular machine and plant building. In this manner it is possible to achieve exceptional increases in productivity for engineering and startup. A decisive contribution is made by the uniform communication. PROFIBUS segments can be linked to Industrial Ethernet using PROFInet proxy devices. This connection can be made using either a solution with SIMATIC WinAC PN or via the SIMATIC NET IE/PB link. It is then possible to use all PROFIBUS standard slaves unchanged for Component based Automation. Network transitions with links DP/PA link or DP/PA coupler The DP/PA link or DP/PA coupler implements the transition between PROFIBUS DP and PROFIBUS PA. DP/PA link The DP/PA link is used for large quantity frameworks and high timing requirements. The DP/PA link is a slave on PROFIBUS DP and a master on PROFIBUS PA. The programmable controller/automation system addresses the field devices via the DP/PA link as a modular slave whose submodules are the PA units. DP/PA coupler The DP/PA coupler is used for small quantity frameworks and low timing requirements. When the DP/PA coupler is used, the data transfer rate on PROFIBUS DP is limited to 45.45 kbit/s. The quantity breakdown is defined either by the maximum number of addressable slaves (field devices) or by the maximum cycle time. IE/PB link The IE/PB link, as a self-contained component, creates a smooth transition between Industrial Ethernet and PROFIBUS. Thus, for example, HMI systems can simply access field devices on PROFIBUS from Industrial Ethernet. Vertical integration is then possible from the operations management level down to the field level. The IE/PB link supports the PROFInet functionality. DP/AS-Interface link The DP/AS-Interface link provides a network transition between PROFIBUS DP and the AS-Interface. It is a PROFIBUS DP slave (according to EN 50170) and an AS-Interface master (according to EN 50 295) and enables the AS-Interface to be operated on PROFIBUS DP.
