After School Program 326-1190, ext. 151 829 W. Broadway Monday - Friday, 3 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. State paid. Oversees the After School Program for homeless children only, kindergarten through 6th grade from Holmes, Stevens, Audubon, Garfield and Logan, through Spokane School District. Kindergarten - 6th grade - Monday through Friday, from after school until 5:00 pm (free). Must be enrolled in the HEART Program. Offers life skills, cooking class, substance abuse prevention, community awareness and tutoring. Child-Family Care Program/Visitation Center 326-1190, ext. 160 829 W. Broadway Monday -Thursday, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. State funded early intervention program for "at-risk" children and their families. Offers one-on-one parenting and visitation services. Children and families are referred to the YWCA by CPS social workers. Also, have a new contract with the state providing straight visitation services to same population. Same referral process as the parent education program but the visitation center provides a lower level of parent education than the Child and Family Care Center. Both programs provide supervised visitation for CPS referred families. Cuddles and Care Sick Child's Service 474-4615 101 W 8 th Ave. (Sacred Heat Medical Center) Spokane, WA 99220 Monday - Friday, 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. $3.50 per hour per child (minimum 2-hour stay). Offers warm, professional care to mildly ill children, ages birth to 12. Each is given a bed or crib and provided meals and snacks. Does not take contagious children; i.e., chicken pox, measles, mumps and rubella. Also does not accept children with lice, scabies, or pinworm. First come, first served basis, however you can call the night before or first thing in the morning to reserve a spot. It is staffed by licensed practical nurses. Access to Baby and Child Dentistry Program (ABCD Program) 324-1550 The Access to Baby and Child Dentistry program increases access to children and infants who are Medicaid eligible to dentists in Spokane County. ECEAP American Indian Community Center 535-3430 801 E. 2nd Ave Spokane, WA 99202 Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. ECEAP is free. A life enrichment program primarily for low-income families with children 4 years old by August 31 of the current school year. Parent participation is strongly encouraged. Provides services, classes and activities for the entire family. ECEAP sessions are Monday - Thursday, 8:45-11:45 a.m. Wrap-around childcare is available. The N.A.T.I.V.E. Project (Native American Treatment Intervention & Education) 325-5502 880-1889 crisis line open 24/7 1803 W. Maxwell The N.A.T.I.V.E. Project provides services for adolescents. General services include mental health/substance abuse counseling, intensive outpatient for youth for 16 weeks. Transitional housing and case management for homeless teenage girls experiencing one of the following: pregnancy, parenting, substance abuse, substance abuse recovery, or mental illness. Students are bussed to Deer Park Elementary School, which also serves children with special needs. If the program is not filled by September 30, children that are 3 years old by August 31 will be considered for enrollment. Serves children age s 6 weeks to 10 years, full-time care with USDA meals. Eastern Washington University (EWU)-Limited Dental Care 368-6544 310 N. River Point Provides services for ages 6 and up. Free dental evaluation. Fees for cleaning, x-rays, and limited restorations upon authorization from regular dentist. Costs are about 1/3 to ½ less than a regular dentist. No emergencies, caps, crowns, extractions, dentures, or root canals. Services are provided at varying times during the school semesters. ECEAP YWCA Downtown 326-1190, ext. 131 829 W. A community based, family centered, comprehensive pre-kindergarten program for income eligible 4-yearolds (by August 31 of the current school year) and their families. ECEAP sessions are Monday through Thursday (September through May); 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. & 12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. If program cannot be filled with 4-year-olds, children that are income eligible 3-year-olds by August 31 will be considered for enrollment. Tamarack Center 326-8100 2901 W. Fort George Write Drive This is an adolescent psychiatric treatment facility that provides long-term, residential, psychiatric services for emotionally disturbed children and adolescents. An accredited, multi-disciplined treatment team performs services. Family involvement is strongly encouraged, with the final goal of being reintegrated into the community. They also provide a variety for outpatient services. YFA Connections 532-2000 901 E. 2 nd Ave Provides outreach services targeting youth 13-17 in the downtown city bus station. Their goal is to connect youth with services, shelter and/or family. This agency is a licensed mental health/substance abuse treatment program administered through an intensive outpatient service-sometimes with co-occurring mental health programs. Their hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm. Federal poverty guidelines are used and they offer home-based counseling and family crisis resolution. Spokane County Childcare Resource Guide 5

ECEAP is a community based, family centered comprehensive preschool program for low-income four year olds and their families. ECEAP sessions are Monday through Thursday; 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. & 12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. If program is not full with 4-year-olds by September 31 income eligible 3-year-olds will be considered for enrollment. Express School Age Care Programs 354-7312 200 N. Bernard Monday - Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. Express offers before and after school childcare programs in 25 Spokane School District elementary schools which serve 31 elementary schools. The program is open to children ages 3-12 years with 14 programs offering 1/2 day kindergarten care and several offering full day preschool. Sibling discounts available as well as scholarships in some neighborhoods. Family Care Resources Public Line Child Care Referral Service 484-0048 or 1-800-446-2229 315 W. Mission, #25 Monday - Friday, 24-hour message machine. Free. Provides child resource and referral services to Spokane, Ferry, Stevens, Pend Oreille and Lincoln counties. This service refers parents to licensed child care providers who meet the family needs and requirements. It also provides information for parents on how to choose child care and directs them to available financial resources for child care. Serves pregnant women and children newborn to three years of age through a home visitor program. Head Start West Central Community Center 279-6340 1603 N. Belt Spokane, WA 99205 Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Serves infants, toddlers, and preschool age children in full-day/full-year classrooms or preschoolers in double session (a.m. or p.m.). There is a fee for full-day services. DSHS reimbursement for child care accepted. The West Central Community Center operates a before and after school child care program for children age five through twelve. Julianne's Prom Closet 448-3534 1112 East Estates Road Spokane, WA 99224 Parents are often asked to spend $200 to $500 on a one-use dress so that their daughters can have a night they've dreamed of throughout high school. If a girl needs help, she must bring a letter from a community member citing the family's need, and proper ID. A fitting appointment will be set to let the girl search through their extensive inventory. The effort is a 501 3 corporation and always in need of more dresses, shoes, bags and more. The Center offers before and after school child care from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for children ages 5 to 12. In addition, they can fill in the gap for your kindergarten child by providing morning and/or afternoon child care and transportation to and/or from kindergarten. Program is a licensed child care with USDA snack program. State pay is accepted. Provides various recreation programs to youth in the Northeast area of town. The Northeast Youth Center is open to all youth, teens, and adults. Programs primarily serve ages 5 to 15. Closed in the summer to become a day camp operated by the City Park and Recreation Department. Parent Education/Cooperative Preschools 533-4895 3939 N. Provides preschool and infant toddler programs for children, birth to 5 years. Provides parent education through parent involvement in early childhood education cooperative preschools, where parents and children learn together. Classes held at various off campus sites in Spokane and the three northeast counties. A limited scholarship fund which pays 50% of the monthly fee is available to income eligible families. SPOC's Northeast Child Development Center 444-0374 4001 N. Cook Spokane, WA 99207 Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. Fees vary. Full-time licensed child care. Accepts infants at 3 months of age through preschoolers age 5 years. No transportation available. Only full-day children accepted. Priority for families dependent on child care subsidy. Serves children with special health care needs. Provides workshops for parents and early childhood educators. Spokane County Head Start/ECEAP/Early Head Start 533-4800 3939 N. Freya Spokane, WA 99217 Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Head Start/Early Head Start (HS/EHS) is a federally funded family involvement program for low-income families with young children. HS/EHS serves preschool, infant, and toddler children in classroom settings. EHS also offers home based services for families during pregnancy and those with infants and toddlers up to three years of age. EHS parents and children have the opportunity to participate in classroom socializations and home visiting (at least four times a month). Intensive, comprehensive child development, parent education and family services are individualized to build on family strengths and respond to family needs. ECEAP stands for Early Childhood Education Assistance Program. It is a Washington State funded program to provide preschool experiences for low-income families. (See the site listings under "ECEAP" in this section of the directory.) There is no charge for Head Start, ECEAP, or Early Head Start services. The sites that provide full-day and some evening services charge a fee for child care services. Ninety percent of enrolled families must be low-income, based on the federal poverty guidelines. Ten percent of enrolled children may be over income if they have diagnosed disabilities or other special needs. Preschool classrooms give priority to children who are age four by August 31 of the school year. Infant/toddler classrooms enroll children six weeks to three years of age. Broadway Program provides case management to homeless children and their parents to assist them in accessing mainstream services and school for children in grades K-12. Their main concern is that children remain in their respective schools, even if they find themselves homeless or in transitional living. The agency also provides clothing, backpacks, new shoes and more to schools. They have an intake assessment program, handling paperwork in collaboration with School District 81 and Spokane Mental Health. Bethel AME Church Richard Allen Youth Academy 534-3007 600 S. Richard Allen Court The Richard Allen Youth Academy, part of the Bethel AME Church, is a state-licensed childcare facility capable of providing for 74 children from 6 weeks to 12 years old. Jefferson, Room 101 This agency offers free drop-in childcare for ages 1-12 for those conducting business in the Spokane Courthouse Complex at the Broadway Center Building. Hours are 8am-5pm, Mon-Fri and are closed when the courts are closed, including the noon hour. Priority is given to those whose cases involve domestic violence they may make reservations. Indian Trail Road This a private, non-profit agency serving youth ages 12-17 with a broad range of behavior problems including chronic runaway, substance abuse, delinquency and pre-delinquency, inability to function within the family setting, and inability to function in the public school system. Hugs to Health Day care/valley Hospital 473-5496 12606 E. Mission This is a day care for sick children (isolation is available for chicken pox and strep throat). They do not accept children with measles, mumps, whooping cough, or head lice. Pediatric LPN s and NAC staff the center.
