Offers one-on-one parenting and visitation services. Children and families are referred to the YWCA by CPS social workers. Also, have a new contract with the state providing straight visitation services to same population. Same referral process as the parent education program but the visitation center provides a lower level of parent education than the Child and Family Care Center. Both programs provide supervised visitation for CPS referred families. Fort George Write Drive This is an adolescent psychiatric treatment facility that provides long-term, residential, psychiatric services for emotionally disturbed children and adolescents. An accredited, multi-disciplined treatment team performs services. Family involvement is strongly encouraged, with the final goal of being reintegrated into the community. They also provide a variety for outpatient services. YFA Connections 532-2000 901 E. 2 nd Ave Provides outreach services targeting youth 13-17 in the downtown city bus station. Their goal is to connect youth with services, shelter and/or family. This agency is a licensed mental health/substance abuse treatment program administered through an intensive outpatient service-sometimes with co-occurring mental health programs. If a girl needs help, she must bring a letter from a community member citing the family's need, and proper ID. Program is a licensed child care with USDA snack program. State pay is accepted. Provides various recreation programs to youth in the Northeast area of town. The Northeast Youth Center is open to all youth, teens, and adults. Programs primarily serve ages 5 to 15. Serves children with special health care needs. Provides workshops for parents and early childhood educators. Spokane County Head Start/ECEAP/Early Head Start 533-4800 3939 N. Freya Spokane, WA 99217 Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Head Start/Early Head Start (HS/EHS) is a federally funded family involvement program for low-income families with young children. HS/EHS serves preschool, infant, and toddler children in classroom settings. EHS also offers home based services for families during pregnancy and those with infants and toddlers up to three years of age. EHS parents and children have the opportunity to participate in classroom socializations and home visiting (at least four times a month). Intensive, comprehensive child development, parent education and family services are individualized to build on family strengths and respond to family needs. ECEAP stands for Early Childhood Education Assistance Program. It is a Washington State funded program to provide preschool experiences for low-income families. (See the site listings under "ECEAP" in this section of the directory.) There is no charge for Head Start, ECEAP, or Early Head Start services. The sites that provide full-day and some evening services charge a fee for child care services. Ninety percent of enrolled families must be low-income, based on the federal poverty guidelines. Ten percent of enrolled children may be over income if they have diagnosed disabilities or other special needs. Preschool classrooms give priority to children who are age four by August 31 of the school year. Infant/toddler classrooms enroll children six weeks to three years of age. The home base programs serve families prenatal to three years of age. SFCC Early Learning Center and SCC Bigfoot Center provide Head Start programs and full-day services for children of community college students. Two classrooms at the Hillyard Center, two classrooms at the Adult Education Center, and two classrooms at the West Central Community Center provide Head Start and full-day services for children who have parents that work and/or attend school. Helps low income working families pay for child care expenses and therefore maintain their jobs. The amount of child care subsidy varies with family size and gross income. If you are eligible for a child care subsidy, the Community Service Division will authorize payment to a caregiver of your choice: a licensed child care provider, a licensed contracted center, or an approved caregiver in your home. Child care assistance is also available for teen parents in high school or GED program. YMCA Before & After School Care 838-3577, ext. 127 Monday - Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. Fees vary; registration $30/child. Programs offered at each elementary school in the Mead School District. YMCA School-Age Care offers a variety of activities designed to help your child grow: arts and crafts, sports and games, study time, creative time, music, snack, cooking, and field trips. Most activities are done in groups with children their own age. Monthly themes help focus each month's activities. Fees: $155 before school care only; $175 after school care only; $315 before and after school care; $210 before or after kindergarten only; $485 before and after kindergarten. For children grades 1 through 9. There are age appropriate programs for different grades. Programs offered at two locations: Downtown Spokane YMCA in Riverfront Park, and a north side location at Brentwood Elementary. Children and staff participate in swimming, sports and games, arts and crafts, field trips, and other activities that evolve around weekly themes. Camp-outs are also a part of the summer programming. Winter and Spring Day Camps also offered at Downtown and Mead for the same weekly fee and days and hours. YWCA Homeless Children s Educational Resource Program 326-1190 829 W. Broadway Program provides case management to homeless children and their parents to assist them in accessing mainstream services and school for children in grades K-12. Their main concern is that children remain in their respective schools, even if they find themselves homeless or in transitional living. The agency also provides clothing, backpacks, new shoes and more to schools. They have an intake assessment program, handling paperwork in collaboration with School District 81 and Spokane Mental Health. Bethel AME Church Richard Allen Youth Academy 534-3007 600 S. Richard Allen Court The Richard Allen Youth Academy, part of the Bethel AME Church, is a state-licensed childcare facility capable of providing for 74 children from 6 weeks to 12 years old. Domestic Violence Consortium Drop-In Center (Children s Waiting Room) 477-6815 721 N. Jefferson, Room 101 This agency offers free drop-in childcare for ages 1-12 for those conducting business in the Spokane Courthouse Complex at the Broadway Center Building. Hours are 8am-5pm, Mon-Fri and are closed when the courts are closed, including the noon hour. Priority is given to those whose cases involve domestic violence they may make reservations. Excelsior Youth Center 328-7041 3754 W. Indian Trail Road This a private, non-profit agency serving youth ages 12-17 with a broad range of behavior problems including chronic runaway, substance abuse, delinquency and pre-delinquency, inability to function within the family setting, and inability to function in the public school system. Hugs to Health Day care/valley Hospital 473-5496 12606 E. Mission This is a day care for sick children (isolation is available for chicken pox and strep throat). They do not accept children with measles, mumps, whooping cough, or head lice. Pediatric LPN s and NAC staff the center. Reservations are required, no walk-ins accepted, please call their 24-hour reservation line at the number above. Their hours are 6:00am-6:00pm, Monday-Friday, excluding major holidays.
