Construction and Bid Status High School Expansion and Renovation Construction Update Bid Packages 1, 2, and 3 are complete! Footings and foundation walls are well underway while steel fabrication has begun for the B Wing Addition. We anticipate the first shipment of steel to arrive November 9, 2011 with hollow core precast planks to follow. Midwest Geothermal has been busy drilling wells at the location of the old tennis courts. In fact, 45 of the 300 wells are complete. GO Holland continues to monitor and update construction phasing plans, schedules, and parking requirements to minimize interference with the daily operations of Holland High School. We thank you for your cooperation and support in these efforts! Bid Update Bid Package No. 5 entitled High School Additions and Remodeling went Out to Bid on October 10, 2011. These improvements include the bulk of the High School renovations and additions. Last month we projected the project would be broken down into 30 bid categories generating approximately 130 bidders. We are excited to report the bid documents have been broken down into 35 bid categories creating an anticipated 150 bidders. The bid date is November 10, 2011. After the bid opening, GO Holland along with Brett Roach and members from GMB AE will begin post-bid interviews with the lowest qualified bidders. The post-bid interview process is similar to a job interview. We review the scope of work defined by each bid category prior to issuing a Notice of Pending Award for availability of manpower, quality of manpower available, and specifically to verify the lowest qualified bidders included all of the items required to complete their scopes of work. During the months of November 2011 and December 2011, GO Holland will approach the Board of Education for approval to proceed with the project. November 21, 2011 we will be focusing our attention on the bid categories with long lead-times as well as to get us the earliest start possible to enclose the B Wing addition. We are confident all of the preconstruction planning has created the foundation of a successful project. We look forward to focusing our attention on construction.

Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run your TV for three hours. -Reynolds Metal Company! Environmental Highlights Construction Waste Recycling: The previously completed Holland High School construction projects have focused primarily on campuswide site changes. Bid Package No. 5 moves construction toward the additions as well as remodeling of the existing High School Building. Early in the design and planning stages, Holland Public Schools challenged the design and construction team to implement green principles. GO Holland Project Goal: To exceed measurements set forth by the United States Green Building Council for LEED Credit MR2.2: Recycle and/or salvage 75% of nonhazardous construction and demolition debris from the High School Bid Package No. 5. Since the start of the High School renovations and improvements, GO Holland has diverted over twenty-six tons of concrete from entering our landfills. Each of the subcontractors supplying dumpsters are required to provide documentation of a recycled content or waste diversion plan, so we can verify and track the totals as if we were applying for the LEED credit. As demolition and construction begins at the High School, the volume of waste diverted from landfills will be significant. The GO Holland Team strongly believes in doing our part to protect the environment. We are glad Holland Public Schools sees the benefit of recycling!
