HLTCR402AA Unit Descriptor Employability Skills Application Support client daily living requirements in a community rehabilitation context This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to work with clients in their home and community to facilitate rehabilitation goals though supporting independence in daily living The required outcomes described in this unit of competency contain applicable facets of Employability Skills The Employability Skills Summary of the qualification in which this unit of competency is packaged will assist in identifying Employability Skill requirements Skills and knowledge are applied according to a rehabilitation plan and under the supervision of a health professional. Community rehabilitation work is to be carried out in consultation/collaboration with health professionals and under direct or indirect supervisory arrangements in line with jurisdictional regulatory requirements ELEMENT Elements define the essential outcomes of a unit of competency. 1. Confirm the relevance of supporting daily living to rehabilitation goals PERFORMANCE CRITERIA The Performance Criteria specify the level of performance required to demonstrate achievement of the Element. Terms in italics are elaborated in the Range Statement. 1.1 Confirm rehabilitation plan details with the supervising health professional 1.2 Work with the supervising health professional to identify daily living activities that need to be addressed as part of the rehabilitation plan 1.3 Work with the supervising health professional to identify daily living activities that could enhance progress against rehabilitation goals 1.4 Confirm with the supervising health professionals concerns about client safety in relation to daily living activities Commonwealth of Australia 2007 1

Work collaboratively to establish a routine that fosters maximum client independence PERFORMANCE CRITERIA The Performance Criteria specify the level of performance required to demonstrate achievement of the Element. Terms in italics are elaborated in the Range Statement. 2.1 With the health team, identify other community workers/services providing support to the client 2.2 Work with the client and health team to determine support routines that best suits their lifestyle and life routines 2.3 Provide information to client about how involvement in daily living activities will contribute to rehabilitation goals 2.4 Identify opportunities for daily living activities in the client s home and community that will support rehabilitation goals, and discuss with the supervising health professional. 2.5 Discuss opportunities that are outside the rehabilitation plan with the supervising health professional 2.6 Work with the client and other community workers/services to provide coordinated and consistent supports to the client 3. Support client to participate in daily living that support rehabilitation goal 3.1 Identify client concerns about participating in daily living activities 3.2 Work with the client and health team to develop strategies to overcome concerns 3.3 Identify the need for aids, appliances and modifications that might be required for participation in daily living activities and discuss with supervising health professional 3.4 Provide information and support to the client to use any aids, appliances and modifications in a safe and effective way, under the direction of the supervising health professional. 4. Monitor impact of client involvement in daily living activities on rehabilitation goals 4.1 Monitor the indicators that involvement in daily living activity is supporting the rehabilitation goals 4.2 Identify any negative impact of daily living activities and report to supervising health professional 4.3 Work with the client to self monitor progress 2 Commonwealth of Australia 2007

RANGE STATEMENT The Range Statement relates to the unit of competency as a whole. It allows for different work environments and situations that may affect performance. Add any essential operating conditions that may be present with training and assessment depending on the work situation, needs of the candidate, accessibility of the item, and local industry and regional contexts. Daily living requirements may include but are not limited to: Activities that could enhance progress may include: Shopping Public transport Gardening Socialising Leisure activities Entertainment Hobbies Interests Daily living physical activities that might support physiotherapy or occupation therapy services Daily living activities that might support emotional wellness Supervision refers to: Instructing, advising, and monitoring another person in order to ensure safe and effective performance in carrying out the duties of their position The nature of supervision is flexible and may be conducted by various means including: - in person - through use of electronic communications media such as telephone or video conferencing, where necessary Frequency of supervision will be determined by factors such as: - the task maturity of the person in that position or clinical placement - the need to review and assess client conditions and progress in order to establish or alter treatment plans in case of students and assistants - the need to correct and develop non clinical aspects such as time management, organisation requirements, communication skills, and other factors supporting the provision of clinical care and working within a team A person under supervision does not require direct (immediate) and continuous personal interaction, but the method and frequency will be determined by factors outlined above Commonwealth of Australia 2007 5

EVIDENCE GUIDE The evidence guide provides advice on assessment and must be read in conjunction with the Performance Criteria, Required Skills and Knowledge, the Range Statement and the Assessment Guidelines for this Training Package. Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate this competency unit: Access and equity considerations: Context of and specific resources for assessment: The individual being assessed must provide evidence of specified essential knowledge as well as skills The assessment will take place in real life situations Assessment should be conducted on more than one occasion to cover a variety of circumstances to establish consistency A diversity of assessment tasks is essential for holistic assessment All workers in community services should be aware of access and equity issues in relation to their own area of work All workers should develop their ability to work in a culturally diverse environment In recognition of particular issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, workers should be aware of cultural, historical and current issues impacting on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people Assessors and trainers must take into account relevant access and equity issues, in particular relating to factors impacting on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients and communities This unit can be assessed independently, however holistic assessment practice with other community services units of competency is encouraged Resource requirements include access to all relevant resources commonly provided in the disability service setting, including: - Relevant organisation policy and procedure manuals, legislation and standards - Organisation mission statement, strategic and business plan - Other documentation relevant to the work context such as:.
