In the past, she regularly featured on 97.3FM radio and was an education consultant to various corporate clients including Lend Lease Construction and Caltex, where she was instrumental in aligning VET qualifications with various Induction programs. Prior to joining the Open Colleges team, Melinda was a learning and development consultant for Mortgage Choice and a national learning and development manager for a Sydney based RTO. This certificate would be suitable for those who want to find work as an accounts clerk or in a finance role. It would also be suitable if you are already performing financial services and you want to formalise your current skill set. This qualification includes many of the requirements set out by The Tax Practitioners Board for registering as a Business Activity Statements agent and the learning materials of this course have been designed to specifically suit online learners. Discover the current industry trends within the finance sector and align your knowledge with the tools, methods and processes used by senior accountants in the industry. Particular focus is given to the processing of financial transactions and reporting. The role of an accountant often requires you to have an understanding of specific legislation. An example of this would be tax and company law. This course is designed to make sure you have the necessary skills you will need to move swiftly into employment. The use of computerised accounting systems and their operation is also covered and under the FNS10 packaging rules some units of this qualification will count towards enrolment in the FNS50210 Diploma of Accounting. OpenSpace is Open Colleges online campus. New educational requirements New educational requirements have now been implemented for Business Activity Statements (BAS) agent applications. To register or renew your registration as a BAS agent from this date, you will need to have completed: > at least a Certificate IV in Accounting or Certificate IV in Bookkeeping; and > a formal approved course in GST/BAS which includes both BAS/Instalment Activity Statement (IAS) and payroll components. This Certificate IV in Accounting meets these new educational requirements. If you are seeking BAS agent registration, check the current registration requirements with the TPB at http://www.tpb.gov.au

Certificate IV in Accounting FNS40611 What is the duration of the course? The maximum duration for the course is 24 months. To complete the course in this timeframe, we recommend that you study a minimum of 6 hours per week. This is a guide only the time taken to complete your course will depend on your level of skill and knowledge. What are the entry requirements for the course? Education Requirements You will need to have completed Year 12, or equivalent. Equivalency can be demonstrated by one of the following: a qualification at Certificate II level or higher, or 2 years of industry experience in a role that requires the use of written documentation and communication. Minimum Age Requirements You will need to be at least 18 years old. English Language Requirements This course requires you to read comprehensive learner workbooks, undertake a range of written assessments and engage in online discussion forums. Furthermore, the course relies on the extensive use of written communication. As such, entry to the course requires English proficiency to Year 12 level, or equivalent (see Education Requirements for equivalency) or completion of an approved English language test (see website for details). Computing Requirements You will need to have basic computing skills to undertake this course. This includes the ability to: > use the computer, mouse and keyboard with proficiency in skills required to integrate software packages, save files and search the internet > attach and use peripheral devices such as a scanner, digital camera, media storage (for example, a flash drive for design storage) > save a compressed file (.zip) > save a PDF File. Minimum specifications for your computer are: > Microsoft Office 2007 or higher recommended > broadband internet connection > 2GB of RAM > CD-ROM or DVD drive > Adobe Reader X or equivalent. Specific requirements for Mac OS users: > Mac OS X v 10.5 or higher (Mac OS X v 10.6 or higher is recommended) > 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster Intel processor (2GHz or faster recommended). Audio-visual requirements You will need access to a digital video recording device and/or a digital camera and associated software to save and upload video and image files to OpenSpace. Many mobile phones and smartphones include this technology. What support services are available? Open Colleges is a Registered Training Organisation. FNS40611 Certificate IV in Accounting has been superseded by FNS40615 Certificate IV in Accounting on the 25th March 2015. Open Colleges will transition to the new qualification in the near future. What funding support options exist?
