Grading "Practical Assignments" Grading Policies ACADEMIC MISCONDUCT POLICY A student judged to have engaged in academic misconduct as defined in the Academic Policies and Requirements section of the Colorado Mountain College Student Handbook will, at a minimum, receive a zero for the work in question. The student may also be removed from the class, resulting in a failing grade. All student course material may be submitted to Turnitin (or another anti-plagiarism program) at the instructor s discretion. Academic Expectations, the Student Code of Conduct and Judicial Process and more information about academic misconduct can be found in the Student Handbook, online version at: http://catalog.coloradomtn.edu/content.php?catoid=7&navoid=841. You are probably aware that competence in computerized accounting requires attention to detail and accurate data input. For this reason, all practical assignments (those which require input of data into QuickBooks) are graded on the basis of accuracy. The following scale indicates how I will grade end-of-chapter problems, practice sets, and practice set exams "on the basis of accuracy." Status of Assignment Percentage of Points Awarded 100% accurate reports 100% 1-2 errors 85% 3-4 errors 75% 5-6 errors 60% More than 6 errors and complete More than 6 errors and incomplete 40% 0% Because most practical assignments are completed sequentially and the accuracy of later assignments depends on the accuracy of preceding assignments, all errors in sequential assignments must be corrected before you submit the next assignment in sequence. (Note that errors include errors in the input of dates as well as amounts.) This is why my detailed instructions urge you to check the accuracy of your work by comparing it to screen shots included in the tutorials and to the check figures I have provided for end-of-chapter problems and practice sets. DROP/WITHDRAW POLICY The last date to drop/withdraw from this course is 11/15/2015. Students wishing to withdraw from this course must initiate the course withdrawal/drop process at the site Registration Office Grading "Objective" Assignments The end-of-chapter questions and the section exams, which are objective assignments not requiring input of data into QuickBooks, are graded on the basis of correct answers. Each question is given equal weight and your grade is based on the percentage of questions answered correctly. Due Dates The due date for assignments is midnight on the Monday following the week in which assignments are to be completed. Due dates should be observed so I can provide you with solutions in time for you to correct errors before completing the next week s work. (Note: QuickBooks makes it very easy to correct errors AND I am giving you the answer sheet via the Trial Balance or other report see the link at the bottom of each assignment in Canvas-- so you can make sure your accounts are correct) I will grade all assignments, post grades to Canvas, and provide you with solutions to chapter assignments via email. Please note there is a 5% per day late penalty for all assignments handed in after the due date, unless otherwise noted. Fall 2015 6
