Leadership Training Program Courses LTC 501c: Philosophy, Organizational Structure and Professional Development This course is aimed at assisting athletic directors set the tone for their program. Origins of athletic administration are addressed in addition to codes of ethics. The concept of educational athletics is discussed and refined. The role of the athletic administrator and the importance of having a school philosophy are addressed and workshop participants have the opportunity to interact with others to refine their own philosophies. Organizational relationships are examined from a provincial, national and international perspective. Key program policies are also reviewed. Current and future courses are highlighted and the certification program is described. LTC 502c: Principles, Strategies and Methods This is a detailed course that addresses school athletic/academic philosophy, administrative organization, coach appointment, budgeting, scheduling, publicity and promotion, management of athletes, parents and others, transportation policies and issues, parent conflict, legal foundations, monthly checklists and more. One of the key resources available to course attendees is CD with over 700 pages of useful information, forms, detailed letter templates, sample policies etc. Further, the provision of access to a coach handbook will be reviewed. LTC 504c: Legal Issues I The Basics of Negligence, Liability and Risk Management This course covers liability, negligence, and risk management practices for athletic administrators. Legal concepts will be introduced to athletic administrators through the use of case law, case studies, and guided discussion. Appropriate risk management documentation procedures for athletic administrators will be identified. Enrollees will benefit from discussing real-life case law scenarios and defining the duties and standards of care that the law requires of athletic administrators. Enrollees will leave the course with new knowledge and actionable strategies for managing risk. LTC 506C: Legal Issues II Enhanced Legal Topics for the Athletic Administrator This course introduces the important legal issues of discrimination, sexual harassment, bullying, hazing, and violence in sport. Participants will learn the legal definitions of the terms and how they are applied to the sport and scholastic context. Case law examples, discussions and other activities will help participants navigate these complex issues. Athletic administrators are also more frequently dealing with legal issues in an online context. This course looks at these new issues (cyber-bulling, online privacy, defamation, and coach-athlete relationship closeness on Facebook) through a legal lens and participants will learn tips for how best to manage online issues. Finally, the course touches on employment law and participants will learn best practices for beginning and ending relationships with teacher coaches and volunteer coaches. 3
LTC 710c: Current Issues in Canadian School Sport A panel of three experienced athletic administrators will lead the group through three workshop topics on current issues in Canadian school sport. Topics examined will include: Dealing Effectively with Parents, Developing Leadership in Your Athletic Program, and Enhancing Multisport Participation and Combating Specialization. Utilizing a mix of lecture and small-group discussions, the presenters will explore each issue from a number of perspectives and examine effective response strategies. Participants will have an opportunity to contribute to the discussion and explore each topic in detail as a unit. Enrollees who will derive greatest benefit: Administrators seeking discussion of current issues and problem resolution strategies. LTI 720: Community-Centered Educational Athletics A Character-Based Approach to Identifying and Unifying the Whole Team In this course students will learn to implement appropriate strategies and techniques, designed to create a positive, productive learning environment, which will support a system that encourages character and self-discipline and sportsmanship. This class will provide opportunities for self-assessment and reflection in regards to prior performance. In addition students will participate in class discussions, and activities, which will increase their knowledge and skills of the effective components of successful character, citizenship and sportsmanship to share with their students, coaches, parents and communities. LTI 724: Stress Management Methods, Techniques and Systems The demands of high intensity daily work, evening and weekend supervision requirements, demanding public expectations, challenging interactions and limited resources place the athletic director in a stressful position. Needed are ways of intervening stress, managing its onset and using proven methods for reducing its impact. Stress will ALWAYS be present. Because of the individual nature of perception and preferred response, this course will provide an overview of individual methods (breathing control, muscle relaxation and mindfulness) along with systems drawn both from conventional Western medical practices and Eastern alternative or complementary medicine. In the latter area, an introduction to Yoga/Meditation, Tai Chi, Ai Chi, Acupuncture and Healing Touch will be used to complement the more traditional pain and stress management practices. 4

Registration Event Fees Delegates pay only a fee per Leadership Training Program course taken. We will be coordinating an optional off-site social function on Saturday evening where delegates will be responsible for their own bills. Cancellation Procedures In case of cancellation, all conference fees paid will be refunded, minus a $20 per course cancellation charge, if notice is given by Friday April 8, 2016.
