Energy Consultancy and Auditing Identifying the right strategy for you Helping you to make positive decisions about the energy you need. Providing valuable energy insight and expertise to evolve your energy strategy. Revealing real and lasting savings We can help organisations of all sizes save money by making energy more affordable. Through site-specific technical surveys and detailed energy reports, we ll show you how the latest technology, together with everyday best practices, can produce real and lasting energy savings. And because your needs are unique, we ll help you prioritise your energy saving initiatives by financial objectives or by CO 2 reduction. For Luton Airport, we identified 2,000 tonnes of carbon that could be saved through low carbon technologies such as lighting upgrades and building control measures. This represented 15% of their total 2010 carbon emissions, and over 400,000 in potential savings. As part of our Business Energy Insight initiative, we carried out an energy survey for The Sydney Arms pub, that identified 3,800 of savings. That s 19% of their annual electricity spend. This audit enabled them to prioritise their activities for maximum savings. The Sydney Arms Energy Audit Our understanding of energy technologies and legislation can really make a difference to your organisation. Speak to us about: Site energy audits Energy consumption analysis Carbon strategies and advice on maximising opportunities from legislation Feed In Tariff, Renewable Heat Incentive, Renewables Obligation and the Green Deal Business cases Support for grants Staff energy awareness campaigns Luton Airport s carbon strategy plan Baseline Year one Year two Year three tco 2 2,000 fewer tonnes of CO 2 15% less emissions, an annual saving of 400,000. Identifying the right strategy for you Smart Metering and Automatic Monitoring and Targeting (am&t) Carbon Compliance Putting you in control through accuracy and insight Helping you meet your Carbon Compliance obligations Understanding your energy starts with smart energy data. This shows you trends in your consumption and spend. As well as clear information, smart meters also provide accuracy of billing. This is vital for organisations with multiple sites. After we installed smart meters across their 8,200 sites, we saved Vodafone 10% in total electricity energy costs by eliminating estimated billing, equivalent to 1million annually. For a supermarket, one of the UK s largest retailers, 500 smart meters and our am&t (automatic Monitoring and Targeting) service gave them a complete and accurate picture of their energy use. They were part of the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) and wanted to ensure they understood all the facts about their energy use before starting their energy efficiency programme. The am&t system gave them online access to their own dashboard, allowing them to view all their energy consumption and trends in one place. We re here to help you reduce costs and take better control of your energy. By using our Business Energy Insight online dashboard, you can clearly see what your energy and financial commitments are, while reducing your administration time. British Gas has installed more smart meters in organisations than any other provider. Speak to us about accurate metering, information and billing. To help your organisation meet its obligations, we can provide our expert advice to support you with the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC), European Emissions Trading Scheme, Climate Change Agreements and any new and changing carbon legislation. Our service can include data tracking, creation of evidence packs, allowance forecasting, annual reporting and audits. It s this scope and depth of experience that helped care home provider Barchester Healthcare to ensure that all elements of the CRC were fully covered throughout its 220 sites. Our fully managed service gave Barchester Healthcare the confidence that the allowances they needed were purchased, giving them the peace of mind that they wouldn t incur any related penalties. Speak to us about how our Carbon Compliance services can help you. Set goals, monitor usage and stay in control of your energy for maximum efficiency Sharing our expertise and tailoring our services will help lower usage to ultimately reduce your energy costs. Retro-fitting to reduce energy use Renewable Power and Micro-generation Helping you use less energy Reducing your energy usage. Adopting innovative technologies and asset upgrades. Becoming more sustainable. Making the right choice for your business We re here to help you achieve your low carbon and energy objectives in any way we can. From initial advice and planning to solution design, build, installation and maintenance, we ll work with you to provide the right solution for your organisation. We were able to save a global consultancy 44,000 a year in energy costs by installing Voltage and Boiler Optimisation to just one of their sites. This was particularly successful as the savings were then used to invest in a solar PV system to make savings year after year. Speak to us about: Boiler Optimisation Voltage Optimisation Low carbon lighting, lighting re-design Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning, design, installation and optimisation Optimisation of Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS) Innovative solution design Building fabric improvements Generating your own energy Renewable power generation is becoming easier and more affordable every day. We have a wealth of experience in generating renewable power and can help you choose the right system for you. As well as helping you meet your own green targets, we can also help you benefit from Government incentives, like the Feed In Tariff and the Renewable Heat Incentive. Working for Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership, we ve installed over 600 renewable installations (that s 16 systems a week) with one of the UK s largest renewable heating contracts. This retro-fit programme includes solar thermal, solar PV, air and ground source heat pumps as well as biomass systems. Through our company Econergy, we ve also installed biomass boilers for Barnsley Council in 13 different schools as part of the Building Schools for the Future programme. We ve also installed a district heating scheme, including a new energy centre with a biomass plant, replacing 20 boilers at the National Star College in Cheltenham. Speak to us about how we can help you with the design, installation and maintenance of: Solar photovoltaic and solar thermal Biomass heating Heat pumps ground and air source Micro Combined Heat and Power Wind turbines Insulation Keep warm and save money 44,000 saved when a global consultancy installed Voltage and Boiler Optimisation in just one site. Through our work with social housing providers we ve helped to identify new opportunities across 25 local authorities for loft and cavity wall insulation, and we ve installed measures to over 6,800 homes and schools over the past 2 years. Meanwhile, we ve been helping councils like Richmond-Upon-Thames to identify potential opportunities for loft and cavity wall insulation. 6

Helping you use less energy Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS) Building Energy Management Bureau Large Scale Projects to reduce fuel poverty Fuel Switching and Off-Grid Properties Realising savings through the use of controls Having smarter buildings can save you money. By looking after the design, manufacture and installation of building management systems, you can reduce your building s energy consumption. Whilst working direct with BAA at Heathrow s Terminal 4, we delivered BEMS projects that saved 136,000 per year. We delivered the BEMS project at a relatively low cost, requiring no major financial investment. In fact the project was so successful, we have been asked to manage Heathrow s Terminal 5 as well. Our award winning design, installation and maintenance of building s systems can be managed through a service level created to suit you. We make sure your BEMS are running at maximum efficiency and can restore underperforming systems, often reducing energy consumption by up to 10%*. Optimising building control systems Our Energy Management Bureau enables constant remote monitoring and analysis of data from your BEMS, so that adjustments can be made any time of the day, 365 days a year. This ensures your working environment meets your needs at the lowest operating costs. Our dedicated engineers will monitor alarms and resolve issues quickly and remotely, often before you even know something needs doing. Our Bureau remotely monitors and optimises building control systems for Carillion Enterprise and 30 of its client sites. Interventions by the Bureau are expected to save between 2-3 million in energy costs over 3 years. Delivering savings across communities to cut costs Our extensive knowledge of managing multi-measure and multi-property programmes helps us to deliver major projects designed to reduce fuel poverty. Working with the Scottish Government Energy Assistance Package (EAP), we ve installed 60,000 energy efficiency upgrades in just 4 years. Our work with the Welsh Government and Nest aims to remove 15,000 households from fuel poverty within 5 years. Delivering projects of this scale can be challenging, but with initiatives like the Green Deal, we believe our experience puts us in a great position to support you in making your properties more energy efficient. Changing your supply to gas While the gas supply network covers many of the homes in the UK, properties without a gas supply are often left with legacy alternatives which cost significantly more. We re working with local gas distribution companies and social housing providers to connect off-grid properties to the network, helping households to keep warm whilst reducing energy bills and cutting carbon emissions. We ve already connected over 600 properties to the gas network, bringing gas central heating to those that need it most. *From Building Controls, a report by the Carbon Trust, 2007 Benefits Delivering real savings through investment in low energy technologies Providing expertise to design and install the systems that meet your needs Together, we ll choose an innovative suite of solutions to meet all your energy targets. Energy Performance Partnerships (EPP) Building Energy Performance Partnerships By working in partnership we ll design a proven, long term programme to save you money. Working partnerships that benefit everyone What is an Energy Performance Partnership? An Energy Performance Partnership (EPP) is a self-funding agreement designed to reduce your energy consumption and costs. In an EPP we can install and maintain energy efficiency measures, generate renewable power and guarantee your energy performance. The EPP is designed to suit you. It allows you to select products and services from our whole range supported by a performance guarantee. A range of customised financial solutions can form part of the EPP too, either through self-funding, financing through British Gas or from other sources like the Renewable Heat Incentive or Feed In Tariff. The Home Office is part-way through implementing a 3 year EPP with British Gas and Amey. The partnership operates on a payment by results basis. Payment is only made once the energy savings have materialised and been verified. This is one of the first times that Central Government has taken this innovative but low-risk approach to energy management outside a Private Finance Initiative (PFI). This has directly resulted in savings of over 497,000 in 2011/12 s energy costs, and contributed almost 3,000 tonnes of CO 2 e to The Home Office s total carbon savings. The three phases of an Energy Performance Partnership Implementing the energy saving measures Together we include new low-energy technologies, improved control systems, renewable power generation, fuel switching and energy awareness. Energy costs Baseline energy costs Costs for upgrades covered by energy savings made Reduced energy costs driven by the EPP measures implemented Saved energy costs Guaranteed benefit Detailed analysis Auditing your property Identifying the savings opportunities. Building the business case and creating the performance guarantee. Contract duration Maintaining and monitoring performance Long term maintenance of new equipment, monitoring energy use, and verify savings throughout the partnership. Time 13

Building Energy Performance Partnerships What you get from our Energy Performance Partnership A long-term partnership Complete transparency Independent advice on technology A single point of contact Ability to face future challenges A trusted energy expert Creating a long term partnership Proving that savings are being made is an important part of the EPP. We use rigorous measurement and verification to demonstrate all the savings are being made in line with recognised international protocols. During the EPP, which typically lasts 3 to 10 years, we can take responsibility for the new energy technology equipment under a single warranty and maintenance framework. This gives you a single point of contact and peace of mind that your energy management and maintenance is covered and guaranteed to perform. Independent advice We re not exclusively associated with any one type of low carbon technology, giving us an independent approach to energy efficiency. We explore the feasibility of many different energy saving measures to select those most suitable for you and your circumstances. An open book approach As an EPP is a partnership, we have a very open approach to the costs for all proposed measures and technologies. We disclose all costs for sub-contractors, materials and purchased services, staff costs, direct costs and risk contingency. This works well with Hywel Dda Local Health Board, who have confidence in their EPP because they can clearly see where savings and investments are being made. Benefits Generate significant brand and CSR value through carbon reduction achievements Best of breed technologies Funding options allow capital to remain focussed on core business, with no upfront capital investment required Future energy budget certainty when linked to energy supply contracts Reduce the risk of unplanned and unbudgeted maintenance costs Replace ageing assets as they approach the end of their life, and reduce any existing maintenance backlog Save management and procurement time Partnering with British Gas means you re guaranteed a minimum level of savings over a defined contract period.
