Corporate social responsibility is more important than ever The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme performance league tables will be published in April 2012 and will show how every organisation that uses more than 6,000MWh per year of electricity is performing compared to others. Old technology could be doubling your energy bills If you have old technology, your lighting system will consume as much as twice the energy as new technology, which means double the electricity bill. Old technology also offers little control and has limited compatibility with new technology, which will make it difficult to be energy efficient in the future. As well as consuming twice the energy, old technology costs as much as 60 percent more to maintain, which adds additional pressure to profit margins. By ensuring the optimum lamp size, layout and positioning, the best optics can also be designed and fitted within the luminaire, which is crucial for achieving maximum energy efficiencies. Control gear refers to the driver of the lamp, which is capable of reducing energy consumption. For example, if the control gear is high frequency, flicker when you switch the light on is eliminated and energy loss is greatly reduced. Similarly, if the lamp and control gear are compatible with regular switching, you can further reduce and conserve energy.
