KAYENNE video production center Leadership powered by innovation. grassvalley.com/switchers

evolution powered by innovation Introducing the Kayenne Video Production Center. Kayenne is a trailblazing switcher system that marks a new milestone in high-end HD and 3D production technologies. Carrying forward the most powerful features of Grass Valley s Kalypso and Kayak switcher families, Kayenne also boasts an array of first-oftheir-kind advancements. Kayenne is designed to address the growing needs of today s and tomorrow s video production professionals by dramatically raising the bar for reliability, serviceability, versatility, and ease of use. Best of all, with the Kayenne s family history, a large, competent talent base already exists that can immediately utilize its power.

FIRST-OF-THEIR-KIND FEATURES 1 Modular, ergonomic control panel Kayenne s modular control panel is designed with the user in mind, providing instant access to a range of new features engineered to meet the needs of operators in high-end, multi-format video production environments. The panel s elegantly structured modular design establishes a new standard for serviceability. Each module snaps into an extruded aluminium tray and is hot-swappable. Modules can be removed and replaced quickly, without impacting on-air production, for improved ease of service. Ergonomically designed, the Kayenne control panel can be mounted flat or in a banked curve with selected M/E stripes angled toward the user. This facilitates easy button access and enables installers to adapt the panel to the unique needs of their particular production environment. No other competitive switcher offers this flexibility. The Kayenne panel is available in 1 M/E, 2 M/E, 3 M/E, and 4 M/E configurations. A separate version, the Kayenne XL panel, can be used with our Kayak family of switchers.

2 Advanced operator interface Kayenne includes a superbly structured widescreen menu system, accessed through a new 15-inch, high-resolution, 1280x768 pixel touchscreen. To make operation even easier, no submenu is more than two levels deep, with user History, Favorites, and semi-transparent Quick Link Tabs providing quick access to the most commonly used menus. The control panel s two rows of OLED source name displays per M/E provide four lines of customizable names with wide viewing angles, high contrast ratios, and crisp legibility. Valuable to operators not just for source names, these OLED displays are also used to identify macros, E-MEMs, router control, aux bus control, and more. Finally, to boost control and ease of use, Kayenne offers a split-lever arm which manages both the primary and secondary partitions in a split M/E. This enables operators to drive two different actions without changing the delegation of the M/E row.

3 Extensive use of RGB push buttons 4 Unequaled effects toolset All buttons on the Kayenne panel are illuminated RGB color buttons. In addition to M/E row colors and key colors, functions such as macros, E-MEMs, and router and aux bus controls are designated by color. Operators can also configure source button colors to easily distinguish sources such as cameras and DDRs. With Kayenne, operators have access to 1,000 E-MEM registers, identified by page, bank, and register number. New functionality (courtesy of Define E-MEM) enables granular E-MEM editing control with partial keyframing. Each M/E level is divided into 23 sublevels, which can be independently controlled. Such versatility offers a distinct advantage over simple button labels in environments where each M/E and its associated subpanels have only one fixed color. With Kayenne, the RGB buttons change color on delegation to indicate functionality visually providing greater security, speed, and ease of operation. Delivering unparalleled improvement in organization and customization, Kayenne provides soft buttons whose functionality is indicated by four-character LED displays. The soft button labels adapt to delegation and add flexibility for modules with multiple functions. Features can be added over time with new software without requiring a new panel or keycaps. In addition, other non-m/e sublevels can be dynamically assigned to M/E levels. Define E-MEM also controls Crosspoints and Transitions separately and adds extended control of devices to E-MEM layers. Kayenne also includes 999 macros with a powerful macro editor integrated into the Kayenne menu GUI. This innovative toolset enables users of the Kayenne Video Production Center to build enhanced effects and logically organize them, saving setup time and streamlining production.

5 Signal processing frame case study Game Creek Video 6 The powerful Kayenne video processing frame comes in two sizes: 4 RU and 8 RU, with up to 96 inputs and 48 outputs. The 4 RU frame supports from 1.5 to 2.5 M/Es. The 8 RU frame supports from 2.5 to 4.5 M/Es, plus an optional expansion DPM with four video/key channels and two combiner outputs. A half M/E is included in all frame models. With a large range of advancements, the Kayenne frame opens up a new set of capabilities for high-end production content, while providing advanced tools that keep the operator in control. FLEXIBLE M/Es The Kayenne family is available in 1.5 M/Es to 4.5 M/Es. This effectively provides up to 10 M/Es thanks to Grass Valley s DoubleTake split M/E technology. DoubleTake split M/E mode divides the six keyers and four background buses in each M/E into two partitions, which produces two separate program output streams. Each output has a different background as well as different or shared keyers. At the same time, substitution tables, and multiple Bus Linking make programming clear and simple. Live 3D production is as straightforward as 2D production using DoubleTake. With split and linked M/Es, left-eye and right-eye content is switched in parallel, automatically, with all the resources of Kayenne s M/Es. Transition Chaining augments parallel video paths using Key Chaining, Background Chaining, and Partition Sync functions to simplify 3D configurations. Kayenne also offers the FlexiKey programmable clean-feed system. This valuable tool supports multi-client live programming, with up to four outputs, using any combination of the six keys over backgrounds on every M/E. Application: Live 3D and HD Sports Production Client: Game Creek Video New Hampshire, US Since its founding in 1993, veteran mobile production company Game Creek Video has relied on the latest video production switchers from Grass Valley. Kayenne switchers have been used to capture the NFL (including the Super Bowl), NCAA basketball and football (including the BCS Championship), NBA (including the NBA Finals), WNBA, NASCAR (including the Daytona 500), the World Series, and many other premiere broadcast events in the US. Game Creek is building two new 3D-capable, high-definition production trucks with a Kayenne switcher on each. Game Creek has also committed to additional Kayenne switchers for future truck projects. The new trucks will be dedicated to supporting sports productions for ABC Sports, ESPN, and FOX Sports. As productions become more and more complex, we recognize the value and flexibility of the Kayenne and how it can help our clients produce the most exciting productions on television. Pat Sullivan President, Game Creek Video

7 Six keyers per M/E Kayenne provides six keys in every M/E. Each full M/E delivers two linear/luminance keyers plus four full-function keyers, including preset patterns, wipes, borders, optional chroma keys, and more. Half M/Es have six linear/luminance keyers for a total of 30 keyers in a 4.5 M/E switcher. The four full-function keyers in each of Kayenne s M/Es provide two pages (frames) of video/key storage. These frame stores can be used for non-animated bugs without consuming Image Store outputs. 9 MatchDef and SetDef options 8 Unmatched DVE capacity Kayenne delivers up to 20 video/key channels of DPM. Each full-featured keyer can have an integrated DPM (idpm). Grass Valley remains the only company with a system capable of accommodating four integrated, full-featured idpms in each full M/E, for a total of 16 idpms in a 4.5 M/E switcher. Kayenne goes further, adding an additional four independent channels of expansion DPMs (edpms) in the 8 RU video processing frame with primary and secondary combiners with each channel running its own timeline. The many effects available on Kayenne include: 10 The Kayenne frame is able to use mixed-format inputs and nonsync sources. By leveraging its MatchDef and SetDef options, Kayenne can internally up/down/cross convert up to 16 inputs and 8 outputs without tying up any M/E resources. SetDef provides HD and SD simultaneous outputs. Combining conversion with the FlexiKey option provides a solution for multiple feeds, which can include different graphics for each converted output. Quiet and green Glow Defocus Splits and Mirrors 2D and 3D with Perspective Kurl Lighting Drop Shadows Strobe Effects Corner Pinning With Kayenne, operators enjoy a silent work environment as all processing and fans have been removed from the panel and placed in a Panel Control Unit (PCU), which can be positioned in a rack up to 15 meters away. With a maximum power consumption of 1,000 watts for the 8 RU frame, Kayenne is the greenest switcher on the planet.

taking the best and making it better case study RODEOHOUSTON Kayenne offers an array of additional features not available with any competitive switcher, including: Aux Bus Transitions In addition to cuts, aux bus transitions also enable operators to do dissolves and wipes, allowing greater production freedom and flexibility. Transitions can be very useful when feeding on-set plasma screens from aux buses. Source Rules Operators can automatically add and drop keys determined by a rule specific to that source selector without using macros or E-MEMs. Source Rules are executed when the source is selected, such as when adding a Live bug on a microwave feed during a news program. Source Rules also set up look-ahead previews for transitions. Integrated Macro Editor To eliminate rebuilding macros, an editor is embedded within the Kayenne menus. Build macros in advance on a standalone PC or edit existing macros using the switcher interface. The editor s plain text macro description allows lines to be re-arranged and functions to be modified. All file management features are readily available. Q-MEM Library of Cues This valuable resource allows the operator to Learn/Recall one or more clips on multiple servers/ VTRs. Independent of E-MEM, the Q-MEM library eliminates the need to tie up multiple E-MEM registers with the same effect for different clips. Q-MEM is closely integrated with the panel s Device Control Module and System Bar. Image Store and ClipStore Technologies Grass Valley s 8 GB Image Store for stills delivers six input and output channels and can record video and key independently. The ClipStore s integrated external K2 Summit or K2 Solo media servers provide up to four video/key pairs (eight connections) for over 10 hours of nonvolatile video/key/ audio clip content. Notable features of the ClipStore include: Full integration into the menus and E-MEM system No extended load time for caching images Cache contents are unaffected if a power reset or failure occurs Application: Live HD Sports and Entertainment Production Client: Ro d e o Ho u s t o n, Texas, US The Broadcast and AV division of Ro d e o Ho u s t o n is responsible for producing every video element that is displayed throughout Reliant Park in Houston, Texas. This includes high-quality content supporting all of the thousands of video displays of all sizes located within Reliant Stadium (home to the NFL s Houston Texans), Reliant Arena, Reliant Center, and the Reliant Astrodome. For their main event, the three-week Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, they use Kayenne switchers to produce coverage of the rodeo and all of the activities surrounding it. Segments are displayed on eight large screens in Reliant Stadium, hundreds of monitors located throughout Reliant Park, plus as pay-per-view events on DirecTV. Once we put the Kayennes in, they streamlined our operations to help us get content turned around faster. The Kayenne is designed the way a switcher ought to be, it s reliable and easy to set up. James Davidson, Managing Director, Broadcast and AV Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

FUSION the power of Grass Valley products connected together ignite konnect The Kayenne Video Production Center works seamlessly with K2 Servers, Trinix routers, and LDK cameras. Grass Valley Fusion allows you to connect your Grass Valley products together, forming a tighter, highly integrated solution as no other manufacturer can, leading to productions that are more efficient, easier to produce, and of a higher consistent quality. forging a new Connection With Ignite Konnect, Grass Valley Kayenne and Kalypso switcher users can now easily transition between manual production and the power of Ignite automation in their control rooms without changing their switcher workflow. With Ignite Konnect, you choose how much you want to automate and when. By adding automation modules as you need them, you can transition easily from manual to automated operation. To ensure a comfortable transition, you can even use both manual and automated systems simultaneously during production. Operator coordination during simultaneous operation is simplified with Kayenne s Suites mode, which partitions the switcher resources so that each control interface only accesses the resources it is allocated. Ignite Konnect integrates the effects that are already built into the switcher. Use existing E-MEMs, macros, and timelines and group or independently recall Local M/E or Master E-MEM levels with direct control of transition, bus routes, and partitions. Ignite Konnect also leverages Kayenne s and Kalypso s powerful DoubleTake split M/E architecture, which provides two independent output streams per mix/effect with keyers for secondary digital or archive channels. Access to Kayenne s innovative Source Rules enables recall of source-to-keyer associations with an Ignite Konnect source route.
