THE 71 ST ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP 1 1 2 3 3 4 5 6 7 Over 600 guests attended the Academy s 71st Scholarship Tribute Dinner. An atmosphere of unity and support filled the hall as attendees saluted the honorees and were entertained with an acappella choir directed by Rabbi Shmuel Yaakov Mann and Rabbi Moshe Dovid Choueka. Mr. and Mrs. Yoni Klein, distinguished parents and community activists, were honored for their leadership role in so many Academy projects. Rabbi Benzion Klatzko was the recipient of the Alumnus Award for his wide-ranging activities as a popular ambassador of Judaism, inspiring unaffiliated young adults to explore their heritage. It is a longstanding Academy tradition to recognize staff that have served for twenty-five years in the school. This year, the Academy honored three outstanding staff members. Rabbi Eli Dessler, Financial Director, leads the Financial Office with clarity, efficiency, and professionalism. Mrs. Yitty Feuer is a beloved, enthusiastic Early Childhood teacher whose mother was the unforgettable Mrs. Beverly Koval. Mrs. Chavi Matitia is the Girls Elementary s talented art teacher whose students continually produce original and beautiful art projects. Mrs. Matitia s mother, Mrs. Carol Schottenstein, is Preschool Director, and her mother-in-law is longtime school secretary, Mrs. Edith Matitia. Mrs. Libby Feifer, Mrs. Sherrie Kantarovich, Mrs. Debbie Reinhardt, and Mrs. Gretchen Shapiro were also recognized for fifteen years of dedicated teaching. The evening was a huge success thanks to Scholarship Campaign Chairs, Mr. and Mrs. Harry M. Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Reuven Dessler, Mr. and Mrs. Amir Jaffa, and Mr. and Mrs. Mendy Klein. Dinner hosts were Mr. and Mrs. David Farkas and Mr. and Mrs. Adam Pollack. 2

RABBI YITZCHOK SCHEINER VISITS THE ACADEMY It was a zechus and a life-altering opportunity for the Hebrew Academy to host the venerable Rabbi Yitzchok Scheiner, Rosh Yeshiva, Yeshivas Kaminetz and member, Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah in Israel. Rabbi Scheiner addressed the Kollel, Yeshiva High School, Yeshiva Ketana, and the talmidos in our Yavne High School and Girls Elementary and divisions. On Sunday evening, Rabbi Scheiner addressed the community under the umbrella of the Academy s Kollel Ateres Nochum Zev. One of Rav Scheiner s inspiring messages was that each individual is special, with a malach, angel in Shomayim, Heaven watching over each one of us; and that we should express thanks to Hashem each day for all the good He bestows upon us. The entire Academy family will long remember this unique opportunity to personally hear the words of a Gadol. 4
