4 Seymour Dual Language Academy is just 1.5 miles from campus. Exercise Science students conduct research in one of the departmental teaching laboratories.
5 Highlights and Distinctions Hands-on experience from the start During your first year, you ll take classes in your major and engage in an internship or field experience in public schools or the community, an opportunity not found in many education programs. Build your resume right on campus Develop your professional portfolio at convenient campus clinics, in laboratories, and by conducting research with faculty of distinction. On-campus training and research facilities include: Child Development Laboratory School Institute on Communication and Inclusion Applied Physiology Laboratory Early Education and Child Care Center Special Education Psychoeducational Teaching Laboratory You may even graduate with published journal articles in scholarly texts or with experience presenting at national conferences. Small-school atmosphere with large university resources The School of Education is selective, so you ll enjoy small classes and close advising relationships with faculty and staff. But you ll also have access to the extensive resources and benefits of the broader Syracuse University support system. Once you graduate, you ll be linked to a network of 250,000 accomplished alumni. Practical experience through placements and internships You ll do extensive fieldwork in your course of study. The School of Education places students in a wide variety of internships, teaching placements and clinical settings. Free transportation is available to all teacher prep students. Success by the numbers According to a class of 2014 survey, 100 percent of School of Education graduates who responded either enrolled in graduate school (46 percent) or secured a job (54 percent). Additionally, 98 percent of teacher prep candidates passed their certification exams. admissions.syr.edu/education
6 Study Abroad Broaden your perspective and enhance your resume with a study abroad experience. Consistently ranked among the top 25 international education providers in the U.S., SU Abroad offers more than 100 programs in 60 countries. Via a $1 million grant, the School of Education provides scholarships for its students who wish to study abroad. In addition to semester and year-long programs, short-term signature programs fit each major. You can join education and exercise science faculty in Brazil, Costa Rica, the Galapagos Islands, Italy, Peru, Kenya, and South Africa. Brazil Kenya I had the opportunity to work in a University preschool during my first semester. Over the next few years, I worked in urban and suburban classrooms in grades ranging from first to sixth. As a teacher, there is no student I cannot work with and a major part of this is due to the School of Education. Brian Coonley 09, Inclusive Elementary Education and Political Science Within my four years, this program will provide me with six different field placements in a wide variety of schools, certification in both general education and special education, and a strong connection between faculty in the field and my fellow classmates. Azsa Parker 16, Early Childhood and Special Education The selected studies program allowed me to take a variety of classes, as well as double major in sociology. I m now pursuing a master s of science in instructional design, development, and evaluation at SU. Rachel Pastrich 15, Selected Studies and Sociology admissions.syr.edu/education
