DAILY ADMISSION TO THE FACILITY MEMBERS Admittance to the Recreation Center requires scanning of your membership card at the Control Desk upon entering the building. Your membership card is required or the daily admission will be charged if you do not have your card. GUEST FACILITY USE Guests of members have the same access privileges into areas of the facility that the member has. NON-MEMBERS Non-member RESIDENTS may use the facility by paying the daily fee and showing proper identification, but they may not bring a guest. All other non-members MUST be accompanied by a current member. People who work at a business in Blue Ash and do not have a membership will not be admitted unless they are a guest of a member and pay the daily fee. Guests WILL BE LIMITED if facility is at or near capacity. TYPES OF MEMBERSHIPS RESIDENT MEMBERSHIP Residents must live PERMANENTLY in the City of Blue Ash and CURRENTLY RESIDE at that location. BUSINESS MEMBERSHIP Members must work FULL-TIME, year round in the City of Blue Ash. They may purchase a single membership for themselves or a family membership. UC BLUE ASH STUDENT MEMBERSHIP Student must be currently enrolled at Blue Ash campus Fulltime. Membership is for a single membership including fitness. Persons who own property in the City of Blue Ash, but DO NOT RESIDE at that property may purchase a business membership provided they operate the property as a business, i.e., rental property. The purchaser of a Business Membership acknowledges that he/she will not be entitled to any travel-based or other refund of earnings tax since membership eligibility is based upon payment of the full 1.25% City tax. FAMILY or SINGLE MEMBERSHIP As a Blue Ash resident or business person, you may purchase a SINGLE or FAMILY membership. The following guidelines are used to define a family. 1. Two individuals who maintain a legal marital relationship with one another. 2. Parent(s) and dependent children 18 and under and/or A. FULL-TIME college students 24 and under with current fulltime student verification and proof that their legal residence is the same as the parent(s). B. Dependent children from a previous marriage even if they do not permanently reside with the member. C. Elderly parents or disabled adult children who are legally claimed as dependents (proof of disability required). PURCHASING OR RENEWING YOUR MEMBERSHIP 1. Memberships may be purchased anytime during office hours. 2. Picture ID and proof of residency or full-time employment in the City of Blue Ash must be shown at the time of purchase or renewal. 3. At the time of purchase, the entire fee must be paid by cash, check, Visa, or MasterCard. 4. Membership cards remain the property of the Recreation Department and must be returned upon request. 5. Membership cards may not be transferred or loaned. 6. The Basic Membership expires one year from date of purchase. All other memberships coincide with the dates of the basic membership. WHAT TO BRING RESIDENTS must bring a valid driver s license and proof of residence (utility bill or lease showing Blue Ash address). BUSINESS members must bring a valid driver s license and an original, current pay stub (dated within 30 days). Paystub must show full-time employment (35+ hours) in the City of Blue Ash and 1.25 % Blue Ash tax withholding on all wages. Individuals who are owners of the company do not need to provide a pay stub but must be listed with Blue Ash Tax Department as the owner or principal of the business. UC BLUE ASH students must bring a valid driver s license and course schedule showing full time status (12 hours) at the Blue Ash campus only. NO REFUNDS ON MEMBERSHIP FEES GUEST CARD Individuals or families purchasing an annual Recreation Center Membership will receive the following guest passes free: Family Membership 10 passes Single Membership 5 passes *Passes may be redeemed at the control desk or pool cabana upon arrival (one pass per guest...guest pays no extra fee). Additional guest passes may be added to your account at the rate of $5 per pass. Senior citizen members may purchase additional passes at half price. Guest passes are credited directly to the membership; they expire with the membership. GUESTS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A MEMBER WHILE USING THE FACILITY!!!! GUESTS MAY BE ASKED TO SHOW PROPER I.D. 3
MEMBERSHIPS and FEES Memberships Admittance to the Recreation Center requires members to show their membership card. This card is received after membership purchase and must be carried to the Center at all times. If a card is forgotten, a guest fee will be charged. Only Blue Ash residents and those who work full-time within Blue Ash are eligible to purchase Recreation Center memberships. The entire fee must be paid at the time of purchase, and proof of residency or full-time employment in Blue Ash must be shown at the time of purchase or renewal. Memberships expire one year from the date of purchase. Membership to the Recreation Center includes: Swimming pools Fitness Center Gymnasiums Sauna Whirlpool Shower/Locker Room Game Room Daily use of lockers Tennis Courts Free Climbing Wall on designated evenings Racquetball courts with reservation privileges ($2 hour court fee) First class FREE to our Fitness Classes Free Guest Passes ANNUAL RECREATION CENTER MEMBERSHIP FEES Effective January 1, 2012 RESIDENT MEMBERSHIP (non senior citizen) $50 per single $100 per family RESIDENT SENIOR CITIZEN MEMBERSHIP $25 per single $50 per family *BUSINESS MEMBERSHIP (non senior citizen) $170 per single $340 per family *BUSINESS SENIOR (62+ years), **DISABLED MEMBERSHIP $85 per single $170 per family *To qualify for the business membership, you must be a full-time employee in Blue Ash (proof required and status verified) ** A resident head of household or the fulltime employee in Blue Ash must meet the definition of senior and/or disabled citizen (state verification required for disability). UC BLUE ASH STUDENT MEMBERSHIP Annual single membership includes use of outdoor pool, gymnasiums, game room, shower/locker room, whirlpool, sauna, racquetball courts, and fitness center. This membership does not include guest passes. Students must be currently enrolled for 12 hours or more at UCBA in the current quarter and keep full time status throughout membership period. $130 We accept cash, check (payable to City of Blue Ash), Visa, or Mastercard. Annual Locker Rental (if available) - $25 *Lockers are available at no charge on a daily basis with a valid membership card. Member is responsible for providing their own lock and removing lock and items when leaving the facility. 4
BLUE ASH RECREATION CENTER FACILITY RULES AND REGULATIONS GENERAL The Blue Ash Recreation Center is a membership facility. All users must have a member identification card or a guest pass to the facility. Users must scan their card at the control desk or pool cabana before using the facility. Athletic equipment will be issued at the control desk only. Guests must be accompanied by an active member while in the building AT ALL TIMES. Failure to follow facility policies and regulations could result in suspension or termination of membership privileges without refund, as determined by the Recreation Superintendent. The Blue Ash Recreation Center is a NON- SMOKING facility. NO GUM CHEWING in the facility. Identification cards will be issued to all children ages 3 and older. Children under 10 must be accompanied by a responsible person 16 years of age or older. Proper Footwear is required while in the building. GAME ROOM Game Room Policies and Procedures) Game Room equipment for rental must be returned in the same condition it was before it was used. Children 9 years of age and under must be accompanied by an adult age 16 or older. Physical aggression toward others is not tolerated. Profanity is prohibited. Willful destruction or theft of the Game Room property will not be tolerated. Inappropriate use or abuse of the equipment may result in termination of privileges. The Recreation Center staff has a right to set time limits on game play. During busy times, game play is limited to ONE game per person. Games are available on a first come, first serve basis. You must be at the game you want to play. No one is allowed to hold a place in line for someone else. FITNESS CENTER All users must be 16 years of age or older to use the fitness center without restriction. After completion of a mandatory orientation, children ages 14 and 15 may use the fitness center without restriction. After completion of a mandatory orientation, children ages 10 to 13 may use the fitness center under the supervision of an adult (16+). No radios or boom boxes are permitted. Facility sound system will be controlled by the facility staff who will set the stations to accommodate the majority of the patrons. Headsets are permitted. No gym bags, purses, or other personal items will be permitted. Coats must be hung in the coat rack. Do not drop weights or stack weights. Please use the fitness equipment for exercise only. When you are finished, vacate the machine. During peak usage times, cardio equipment will be available on a first come, first serve basis, and a time limit of 25 minutes will be observed. Users are required to clean equipment after use with paper towels and OSHA recommended cleaner provided. Proper athletic shoes and clothing are required at all times. Bare feet, sandals, or other open toed shoes are prohibited. Ask for assistance if you do not know how to use the equipment. 5
Climbing Wall Policies and Procedures ORIENTATIONS General Orientation. Anyone who wants to use the wall at all will need a general orientation. This free orientation will allow you to boulder, climb on the wall using the auto-belays or by being belayed by a certified belayer. It will not allow you to belay someone else. Free / 15-20 minutes. Belay Certification. This will allow you to belay for another climber. Must be 14 years old. Free for members, $10 for Non- Members / 45 minutes Belay Skills Test. Climb a lot already at other locations and just need a quick run through to test your skills? This one s for you. Free / 30 minutes. AGE/WEIGHT REQUIREMENTS Climbers. 22 lbs and up. Yep, we said 22 pounds! Ask us about our special harnesses for little guys! Belayers. Gotta be 14. All Climbers under 10 years old must be supervised by a parent within the wall area. Sorry, no exceptions GENERAL All participants must check in with the on-duty staff member and sign the climbing log. All climbers must re-take the Skills Test if they have been absent for more than 12 months. All participants must read and understand the climbing rules and sign a Waiver of Liability and Assumption of Risk before being allowed to climb. Only climbers and staff members are permitted in the climbing area. Observers must remain in the observation area. Failure to do so may result in injury to yourself or others. Never drop anything while climbing on the wall. All participants must wear shoes. Only climbing shoes or athletic shoes are permitted. Street shoes and bare feet are NOT permitted. Proper attire must be worn at all times. Backpacks and other gear, including water bottles, must be stored out of the padded area. Personal harnesses and shoes may be used at the discretion of the climbing wall staff. Climbers must demonstrate proper use of their equipment. Climbing wall staff has the right to check your personal climbing equipment for safety concerns. Please report any injuries, loose holds, damage to the climbing wall or equipment, or any unsafe climbers to the climbing wall staff immediately. The climbing wall staff has the final say on safety issues. Climbers disregarding the rules may lose privileges. Chewing gum, food and drinks are not permitted in the climbing area. The number of climbers at any one time may be limited to ensure proper supervision. BOULDERING Spotters are highly recommended while bouldering. Bouldering on the main wall is not allowed while climbers are on the top rope. Do not boulder under another climber. Always keep personal gear away from the landing area including water bottles. Be aware of launching or throwing for a move with other climbers and bystanders near. While watching others, please stand out of the way of their fall line. TOP ROPING A member of the climbing wall staff must be present in order for members to occupy or use the Top Rope climbing area. Do not use the Top Rope climbing area when it is closed Climbers must climb under the belay bar to which they are connected (stay in your climbing lane!). All belayers must keep their brake hand on the rope at ALL times while belaying no matter what kind of braking device that is in use (i.e. a Gri-Gri). All climbers must be tied in with a figure-eight follow through knot and a double fisherman s knot as a backup knot. (Clipping into the rope with a carabiner is NOT permitted). Never place fingers, hands, or feet on the metal bolt hangers. Down climbing is not allowed unless you are authorized to do so. Climbing wall staff members are the only authorized individuals to set routes - DO NOT MODIFY ROUTES OR LABELS. The belayer must remain standing while the climber is on belay. Every belayer must use a locking carabiner with an ATC, or similar, braking device. 6 LEAD CLIMBING Lead climbing must only be done on designated lead climbing ropes and quick-draws that are provided by the climbing wall staff these are available for checkout. Skipping quick-draws will not be tolerated.
Gymnasium Policies and Procedures Food and beverages are not permitted, water in plastic bottles only. Courts with lowered goals are designated for children 12 and under. Equipment is to be returned to the Front Desk following use. Hanging on basketball rims is prohibited. Any inappropriate use or abuse of the Recreation Center equipment may result in termination of privileges. Emergency exits are for emergencies only and must stay closed. Anyone using these doors for any other purpose will be asked to leave the facility and/or have their membership revoked. The posted gym schedule must be observed. Team practice of any form is prohibited during open gym. Full court play only permitted during scheduled times. Baseball/Softball usage is prohibited. Soccer footwork is permitted, however, kicking the ball against the walls and/or any distance is NOT permitted. Proper non marking, closed toed / closed heeled athletic shoes required. Proper attire must be worn (no swim suits). Sauna Policies and Procedures Sauna usage limited to patrons 18 years of age and older. Maximum occupancy: 6 Pregnant women, elderly persons, and persons suffering from heart disease, diabetes or high or low blood pressure should not enter the Sauna without prior medical consultation and permission from their doctor. Do not use the Sauna while under the influence of alcohol, tranquilizers or other drugs that cause drowsiness or that raise or lower blood pressure. Proper swim attire must be worn. Observe reasonable time limits (10-15 minutes). Long exposures may result in nausea, dizziness, or fainting. Whirlpool Policies and Procedures Whirlpool usage limited to patrons 18 years of age and older. Maximum occupancy: 12 Pregnant women, elderly persons, and persons suffering from heart disease, diabetes or high or low blood pressure should not enter the Whirlpool without prior medical consultation and permission from their doctor. Do not use the Whirlpool while under the influence of alcohol, tranquilizers or other drugs that cause drowsiness or that raise or lower blood pressure. Do not use at water temperatures greater than 104 degrees F. It is not recommended to use whirlpool alone. Proper swim attire must be worn. Observe reasonable time limits (10-15 minutes). Long exposures may result in nausea, dizziness, or fainting. Please shower before and after using the Whirlpool. 7
RACQUETBALL/WALLYBALL FEES: $2.00 per hour A RB Punch Pass may be purchased for $20. This will include 16 one-hour court bookings. The punches will be kept on the computer and taken off as the courts are booked. Membership includes reservation privilege. Racquetball reservation privileges are available to members 13 years old and older. Reservations are accepted no more than three (3) days in advance. You may reserve only one court per day. Reservations are for one-hour time slots. All reservations are on the hour. Failure to show for a reserved court could result in loss of racquetball privileges. If players do not show for a reservation by ten (10) minutes after the hour, the court may be claimed by the first player on the waiting list. Reservations must be cancelled at least three (3) hours before scheduled court time. Failure to follow cancellation policy could result in loss of reservation privileges without refund. Court fees will be assessed to your account in the event of a no show, and you will be responsible for restitution before you are permitted future use of the Recreation Facility. Racquets may be checked out with a membership identification card free of charge. All players are required to wear protective eyewear while on the courts. Only proper court shoes are permitted. NO BLACK-SOLED SHOES unless approved by the staff. All metal racquets must be equipped with scuff guard. Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult. TOT ROOM The Tot Room is designated a babysitting facility for members and class participants. It is NOT A DAY CARE FACILITY. The Tot Room is for children ages 6 weeks through 9 years. The maximum number of children permitted in the room at any given time is twelve. There is a two-hour time limit for children 2 yrs. and older. There is a one-hour time limit for infants under 2. Reservations recommended. Parents must remain on Recreation Center grounds while children are in the Tot Room and must be available in case of an emergency. No medication, food, or drink will be given at any time. Diapers and supplies for any child not yet toilet trained must be provided by the parent. Parents must complete a medical information form for each child before the child may participate in the babysitting program. For the safety of the children, parents must sign in and sign out each child who uses the Tot Room. Payment for the babysitting service must be paid in advance at the office or control desk. One punch will be taken for each child at each visit. TOT ROOM RESERVATIONS Reservations are recommended and may be phoned in or made in person. To reserve a space, call the Recreation Tot Room at (513) 745-8690, M-F 9am - 1pm. If you reserve a space and are unable to attend, please call the Recreation Center to cancel your reservation ASAP. If you fail to cancel, you will lose your privilege to reserve a space in the future. 8
SWIMMING POOL RULES Our goal is to have a fun and safe facility for our patrons. Please follow all rules to ensure that we can accomplish this goal. Our staff will enforce the rules and guidelines for the benefit of all patrons at the Blue Ash Recreation Center. Swimming Pool Prohibited: Smoking on the pool deck Chewing gum in the pool Alcoholic beverages and glass containers in the pool or concession area Running, horseplay, out-of-water tag games Pushing into the water Jumping or diving backwards from the side of the pool or the diving boards Splashing or dunking Metal or hard plastic toys Tennis or hand balls Clothing with zippers Rules: All food and drink must be consumed in the concession and designated areas. Nerf and beach balls allowed when the pool is not crowded. Inflatable toys may not be used when the pool is crowded and must never be used as support equipment for weak swimmers. Babies in diapers must wear plastic pants or swim diapers over their diaper. All guests/members under age 10 must be accompanied by and adult (someone over 16). There will be a children s 15-minute rest period each hour on the hour. All children who are under the age of 18, and not high school graduates, must clear the pool until the signal is given to re-enter. Proper bathing suits must be worn. Cutoffs and other inappropriate attire prohibited. No zippers. Kick boards may only be used for kicking and must be used in designated swim lanes. Any weak swimmer in the deep end may be asked to pass a swim test administered by a lifeguard. All guest/members under age 10 must be accompanied by an adult. (someone over 16). Masks, fins, and snorkels may only be used with the permission of the pool manager or assistant manager. Weak swimmers must pass the swim test or remain in the shallow end of the pool. Regardless of age, children and their actions are always the responsibility of parents. The pool staff has been instructed to fairly administer all rules for the benefit of the patrons. Instructing your children and guiding their actions will further our mission of having a safe and enjoyable facility. Pool Closing Severe Weather In the event of inclement weather such as rain or the outside temperature is 68 degrees or below, the pool will be closed. Please call ahead at 745-8550 during questionable weather for pool status. 9
Whale Pool Prohibited Jumping or diving Swinging on the ropes Flotation toys when pool is crowded Rules The whale pool is for children through age 6. All children must be under the direct supervision of an adult (16+ yrs.) or a sitter approved by the pool manager. There will be a children s 15-minute rest period each hour on the hour. Parent/infant time is permitted. Children in diapers must wear plastic pants or swim diapers over their diapers. Water Slide Prohibited Flotation devices, goggles, masks, or glasses Stopping or sitting up Team sliding Swim suits with buttons, snaps, or zippers Running up the steps Rules: Children are permitted to use the slide at all times. Children s rest period does not apply. Children must be at least 42. Height may be checked at the Measuring Whale by the steps. Always hold the handrail while climbing the steps. Form a single-file line. Wait at the top step for guard s signal to enter slide. Sit down to enter the slide. Lie down, cross hands on chest to slide. After entering the pool, exit the water immediately at the nearest ladder. 10
