University and Entrepreneurship (TURKEY)

Part 1.Some universities has university innovation and entrepreneurship offices that, Why they are for? In many countries the higher education system today is being serious transformation and reforms, traditional "research" or "teaching-oriented" the place of the university "entrepreneurial and innovative" universities are located. Universities no longer than the classical approach to research and education to give more support to regional development, focuses on entrepreneurship and innovation. Thus, consisting of innovative and entrepreneurial universities tend to create new and partly different bridge between academia and the business world. University contribute to Innovation and entrepreneurs, regional development and try to build bridge easier between university and the business world. -By interdisciplinary researching to provide supporting regional development - National and international policies and competitive strategies develop. -Innovation center on issues related to the installation of lectures, seminars, the organization of courses or events - The private sector, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the development of relations between the university and project grants to be executed. Regarding Technology transfer and university-industry collaboration are not new in Turkey (some date back to 1995). More recently, the state has finally recognized the need to stimulate and expand these activities to create economic development. In parallel with the increased awareness across Europe of the need for innovation and entrepreneurship, Turkey is now funding technology transfer as well as providing new grant funding for early-stage entrepreneurs. Even though historically, the Turks played a major role in the development of civilization, including the inherent risks, the country lacks a vibrant ecosystem to stimulate entrepreneurship, a gap that the government is trying to fill for the common good. They conducted intensive two-day courses at Firat Üniversitesi, Elaziğ, and Gazi Üniversitesi, Ankara, Turkey s capital. At the first introductory workshop in Elaziğ, they had about 50 participants from multiple universities across the country. The second more advanced workshop had about 30 participants, again from multiple Turkish universities. Our role is to educate the nascent university technology transfer community on principles and best practices around technology transfer and entrepreneurship. They used a combination of lecture, discussion, exercises, and student presentations to maximize interactive learning. I believe that they created engaging and insightful experiences for everyone involved so they told us in many different ways! In order to support university- industry cooperation, the Metal Forming Center of Excellence was established in Atılım University (http://msmm.atilim.edu.tr/). Moreover, within the framework of Atılım University Undergraduate Research Projects Programme (http://argeda.atilim.edu.tr/tr/lap) industry-supported projects are carried out by students in which students investigate the solution of a problem that an institution has provided. Another innovation is Entrepreneurship Projects Course which is selective and opened in each semester. In this course students are required to carry out projects in order to establish a company. The students who have succeeded this course are issued KOSGEB Applied Entrepreneurship Education Programme Certificate of Participation. KOSGEB- ATILIM University Technology Development Center (ATILIM-TEKMER) is the latest investment of Atılım University which was established in order to provide an efficient environment for our students, academic staff and entrepreneurs who will work in the field of technology. (http://www.atilim.edu.tr/haber/kosgeb--atilim-universitesi-teknoloji-gelistirme-merkezi-tekmerkuruldu--3652). Being a concrete step for the university- industry cooperation, TEKMER aims at supporting innovative entrepreneurship and regional development. 2
