HOW OPEN SOURCE IS CHANGING THE INTEGRATION INDUSTRY Yves de Montcheuil VP of Marketing Talend

Agenda Open source: enterprise ready Commercial open source What s cooking in integration? Talend overview

Open source: enterprise ready Some data points

Enterprise adoption of open source software is widespread and growing Enterprise commitment to open source software Growth in % of enterprises using OSS Anticipated future investment in OSS Same or decreasing investment Increasing investment Source: August 2010 Accenture survey based on telephone interviews with enterprises in the United States (150) and United Kingdom and Ireland (150) with annual revenue in excess of US$500 million.; Gartner 2006 and 2011 Survey 4

Expectations of improved quality, as well as cost savings, driving adoption Cost is no longer viewed as the principal benefit of open source, with enterprises citing instead on other aspects: What we are seeing is the coming of age of open source... an increase in demand for open source based on quality, reliability and speed, not just cost savings. This is a significant change from just two years ago when uptake was driven mainly by cost savings Source: August 2010 Accenture survey based on telephone interviews with enterprises in the United States (150) and United Kingdom and Ireland (150) with annual revenue in excess of US$500 million. Paul Daugherty, Chief Technology Architect, Accenture 5

Enterprises moving from tactical adoption of OSS to broader strategic exploitation IT Management Awareness of OSS is Now on Par with Developer Adoption Which of the following OSS infrastructure tools does your firm currently use? Source: The Forrester Wave: Open Source Business Intelligence, Q3 2010, based on 1298 application development and program professionals and 1900 software decision-makers at North American and European enterprises and SMBs 6

Open source: redefining the software industry For each major market segment, there is now a visible leader OS: Red Hat Mobile OS: Android Database: MySQL e-commerce: Magento Integration: Talend Document Management: Alfresco Web Server: Apache For certain new markets, open source is the only way to innovate NoSQL/Big Data movement (Hadoop, Cloudera, ) Cloud Management (Abiquo, Eucalyptus, ) 7

Accelerating corporate adoption: rapid growth for open source vendors Proprietary software companies during the recession By contrast, commercial open-source Red Hat saw continuous impressive growth and is expected to hit $1bn in revenue Talend grew over 100% 2 years in a row Java portal maker Liferay saw 100% growth in revenue Alfresco saw 20-straight quarters of growth, becoming profitable in 2009. Cloudera, SugarCRM, Jaspersoft, and Funambol, each grew sales by at least 50% each year through the downturn Acquia, providers of Drupal services and products achieved 500% revenue growth Magento became the fastest growing ecommerce platform in the world and now supports over 90,000 merchant sites generating more than $25bn 8

Commercial open source Differentiation Drivers

What is commercial open source? Two distinct models Community driven open source Commercial open source exo

Drivers of commercial open source User/client Corporate commitment One throat to choke Indemnification SLA Vendor Drive adoption Contributions Customer satisfaction Revenue/profitability

What s cooking in integration? 2 macro trends. Explosion in corporate data volumes Access to data, in near real-time

Trends in data and application integration The role and impact of integration has shifted due in large part to major trends such as cloud and managing massive data sets Mid-size businesses are looking to connect their data, e.g. SAP, JD Edwards, without the need for a sophisticated distinction between Application Integration and Data Integration. They don t care! Cloud integration tends to be more Application or ETL style in nature, rather than part of a holistic SOA-style activity Business acceptance of real-time collaboration tools is moving toward becoming as universal as it is in the consumer space

Trends in data and application integration Large organizations understand that Application Integration and Data Integration have consolidated into a new market called Data Services SOA is rarely mentioned by SMBs - demand is for good old application integration OSS makes up nearly 33% of all enterprise software - increased appetite to explore and use OSS, to exert cost controls over future integration projects ESB is the de-facto technology and infrastructure for interconnection of these 'services' in real-time

Why these trends? 1. Context = access to the right data 2. Latency = timely access to data

Need to provide context specific data, in real-time Real-time Self Service Unified Experience Telco International roaming Top up Landline, broadband, TV Banking iphone banking app ATM for cash Online savings, investments, checking Travel Availability Online booking Flight, hotel, attractions Healthcare Update patient records via ipad Online patient-doctor information One provider for all types of service Insurance Online quotation and approval Online claim filing Single policy: house, travel, health

Consequences of getting it wrong or not addressing Investor relations Timely disclosure of financial information is critical for well functioning capital markets - market reacts negatively to announcements that firms will file late Opportunity loss What are your competition doing? Are they better able to meet customer demands? Customer relations Management of personal information and compliance with Data Protection Acts within different geographies, can lead to damage to corporate brand or even prosecution
