What is credit card Credit card is a card provided by bank to its trusted customers. Customer can shop with the credit card first, and pays the bill in coming month. So just suppose you go for shopping some where, you don t pay the cash but just swap your credit card on the machine your bank pays your bill, and you pay to the bank later on. That is the basic concept of credit card. (if you will not pay the bank on time, they are going to take high interest from you. So be punctual and remember the last date for payment and always use your credit card by keeping your monthly income in mind.)

What is debit card Debit card or ATM cards are the cards which are given to the customers on behalf of their bank accounts. They can be used to withdraw money. Or they can swap them on the machines in shopping center for payment of bought items. The bank pays the money to the shopkeeper and deducts it from your account automatically.

How to apply for debit/ credit card Every bank offers debit / atm or shopping card to its customer when it opens an account with them. Avail that offer. Credit card has different conditions at different countries. Know more details about the cards from the bank where your have some transaction history. They will inform you about their requirements.

What are VISA, MASTER CARD? If you will look at your debit or credit card, there will be some logos and signs on it. Visa and Master Cards are globally acceptable. If you have visa or Master sign on your credit card or debit card, you can use it outside your country too. They will be accepted internationally and they will be accepted online too.

Is your card ready to be used Online? Customers have to activate their atm/debit/credit cards by making a phone call to the bank customer care (I think this is the pattern of most banks) After activating you can use these cards to swap on the credit card machine or atm machine. But still you should make it sure that is your card is available to be used online. So make a call to your bank customer card and ask them that can you use your card over internet for online shopping?

Is your card ready to be used Online? In my country most of the atm/debit cards can not be used over internet, even they have VISA sign on them. But they can be used for shopping and atm. But I am not sure about your country, so contact your bank customer care. Credit cards are commonly used over internet. But due to security reasons, some banks keep them offline for internet. And make them online as the customer requests through phone call. E.g. Customer calls the bank and says that he want to shop online and plz make it online for 1 hour. And after that time the card goes offline again.

Is your card ready to be used Online? While some banks keeps the card online forever, you don t need to call to the bank again and again to use it over internet. So you can make it sure from your bank customer care

What is your credit card limit? Do you know that what is the credit limit of your card?. For example, I can pay 100,000 rupees from my credit card in one month.

Some of the essential details of credit card. Front side of credit / debit / atm card As you can see it s a visa card Valid from and expiry dates. Credit card serial number. Card holder name is written here.

Some of the essential details of credit card. BACK side of credit / debit / atm card Always signature the back side of your ATM debit or credit card here. Its very important for security reasons. These last three digits on the back side are call CW2 number. And they are also required while using it online over internet.

A sample form to be filled for online shopping

What is shopping cart? Shopping cart is commonly used in shopping centers Similarly shopping cart is used in online stores, when you select an item to purcahse, its added in your shopping cart. If you want to purcahse more then one item, keep adding things in your shopping cart, otherwise Go for CHECK OUT. Check out means that pay the bill and get the product. Normally shopping cart icon is displayed on the top right of the website.

Shopping cart showing that there are no items selected yet.

Most websites will ask you to make an account with them. Every website which has a shopping system, will ask you to make a login first. Make your login and remember your password. They will also keep your credit card number, it can be used for future shopping. Most of the time its optional to save the credit card number in the account. You can use your customer login details to report complaints about the product or any other inquiry about the product. Normally they will reply within 3 business days.

Use credit cards safely As I have evaluated, credit cards can be used safely and there are no chances for frauds if you stay alert and be aware. Let me give some tips for your credit card to use it safely

Never give your credit card to some one. Don t give your credit card / atm or debit card to some one. If you want to pay some one s money online, do it your self. If you want to give him cash, give him cash, not the card. If you want to swap over machine, swap it your self and swap it once only.

What if you loose your card? If you are unable to find your credit card, its stolen or misplaced or dropped some where. Don t waste your time, just make a phone call to bank customer care and ask them to de-activate your card. You might think that atm card cant be used without 4 digit password. But keep in mind.. that atm card can be swaped at any shopping card machine (without password) to buy a LCD TV or air conditioner. Even jewelers have this machine now. So always be careful.

Get SMS alerts My bank is providing my a facility that whenever my atm card or credit card is used some where, they message me about the transaction details. It s a good feature and if your card is not with you and you got transaction message, just call your bank customer care and ask them to cancel transactions.

What if something goes wrong? Just suppose a company has your credit card information, charges an amount from your card without your permission or charges extra amount intentionally or mistakenly or tries to deceive you. Or gives product which is not like the product shown or promised. What to do in that condition? First of all try to contact their customer care. If they hesitate to payback your money or try to delay the over all process. Don t waste your time and call your bank customer care and ask them to claim your money.

Always Make Sure Use your credit card on top companies. Use your credit card on good reputation shops and TOP websites only. Don t use your credit card when you are not aware from details of the services or product. First know all the details and then pay them. Don t give your credit card number to call center guys (BUT your own Bank customer care may ask your credit card number to verify, you have to provide them the number.)

My experiences. A few times I lost my debit card. And I contacted bank customer care and they disabled my cards instantly. Once a company charged me some money for their services in advance for the coming year through my credit card (as they have already my credit card details). But I don t require their services any more. So I asked the bank to refuse the payment. And the bank refunded my payment back to me.
