Chapter 138 Configuring an ios App Store application You can deploy a free ios mobile application or deploy ios mobile applications purchased in bulk through the Apple Volume Purchase Plan. (You cannot deploy ios applications that the user needs to purchase.) This section includes the following topics: "Deploying a free ios App Store application" on page 138-1163 "Deploying an Apple Volume Purchase Plan application" on page 138-1165 Deploying a free ios App Store application You can add ios apps directly from the Apple App Store. The cloud service automatically populates the name, description, logo, itunes Store ID, and Bundle ID. Note You add premium ios apps in the same way that you add free ios apps, except that there s an extra step to specify your volume purchase information. Premium ios apps automatically display the Volume Purchase tab when you open the app in Admin Portal. For instructions, see "Deploying an Apple Volume Purchase Plan application" on page 138-1165. To add, configure, and deploy a free application from the ios App Store: 1 In Admin Portal, click Apps. 2 In the Apps page, click Add Mobile Apps. The Add Mobile Apps screens opens to the Search App Stores tab. 3 Select Apple App Store to search for ios apps. 4 Confirm that the Apple App Store option is selected and your search text. If you want to search for an application that is not available in the U.S. app store, enter the application name followed by country: and the country code. For example, to search for the Educanet application (available only in the Switzerland app store), then enter Educanet country:ch ( ch is the ISO country code for Switzerland). ISO country codes can be found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/iso_3166-2. 5 Click Add for the app you want to deploy. Tip If you re not sure if you want to add a particular app, click Add and you can read the app description in the window that opens before you actually add the app. 1163

Deploying a free ios App Store application A confirmation screen opens that shows the app name and description. 6 Click Yes to continue (or click No to cancel). The app now displays a grey Remove button instead of the Add button. 7 Continue adding apps as desired. When you re done, click Close. The apps that you added now display in the listing on the Apps page. 8 Click the ios app that you added to open it. The mobile app opens to the Application Settings page. The app already has the itunes Store ID and Bundle ID entered. The Uninstall this app if device is unenrolled option is selected by default. Select Prevent backup to prevent the application data from being backed up. Tip Keeping track of which application versions you ve deployed is useful. This way you can quickly determine if you need to deploy an updated version. 9 (Optional) On the Description page, you can change the name, description, and logo for the application. For some applications, the name cannot be modified. The Category field specifies the default grouping for the application in the user portal. Users have the option to create a tag that overrides the default grouping in the user portal. 10 On the User Access page, select the role(s) that represent the users and groups that will have access to the application. 11 When assigning an application to a role, select either Automatic Install or Optional Install: 12 Note Mobile applications display on the user portal on mobile devices only. Select Automatic Install for mobile applications that display under the Recommended listing on the mobile device. The cloud service alerts the user to install the mobile application. Select Optional Install for mobile applications that display under the Optional listing on the mobile device. 13 Click Save. 14 After configuring the application settings (including the role assignment), you re ready for users to install the application from their mobile devices. Users to whom you ve assigned this mobile app will see the app available on their mobile devices within the next 24 hours. Admin Portal user s guide 1164

Deploying an Apple Volume Purchase Plan application Deploying an Apple Volume Purchase Plan application In order to deploy premium ios apps, you first purchase them through the Apple Volume Purchase web site. You cannot deploy ios apps that the user must purchase. When you purchase an application in bulk, Apple provides an equivalent number of redemption codes. The cloud service maintains a record of the number of redemption codes that you ve purchased and used. You can see the available redemption codes in the application s Volume Purchase settings. To learn about the Apple Volume Purchase plan, please see http://images.apple.com/ business/docs/vpp_business_guide.pdf. Once you deploy a VPP app, the cloud service notifies your users automatically that the application is available for installation. When the user installs the app, the cloud service transparently provides a redemption code to the Apple App Store. The user doesn t need to enter the redemption code or a special URL to install the application. Users can install the application on multiple devices and use the same redemption code for each as long as they use the same Apple ID when they install the application on each device. If the user unenrolls the device, the application is removed, but the redemption code is not recovered. If the user re-enrolls the device, the application can be installed again using the original redemption code. Users can update the application without using additional redemption codes. Note You can upload a newer Volume Purchase spreadsheet at any time. In this case, the cloud service doesn t change any existing codes but does add any additional purchase codes. To add, configure, and deploy an Apple Volume Purchase Plan application: 1 Make sure that you have the Excel spreadsheet that you downloaded from the Apple Volume Purchase web site. This spreadsheet has the redemption codes that get assigned to your users for this mobile app. You ll upload the spreadsheet file later in this procedure. 2 In Admin Portal, click Apps. 3 In the Apps age, click Add Mobile Apps. The Add Mobile Apps screens opens to the Search App Stores tab. 4 Select Apple App Store to search for ios apps. You can search for Android apps too, at the same time. 5 Enter the search text and press Enter or click the search icon: The cloud service searches the app name and description listed in the app stores and displays the list of apps that include the search text. 6 Click Add for the app you want to deploy.
