Chinda Tejavanija Chang together with other SPU administrators including Dr. Monticha Khruasuwan Dean of School of Liberal Arts, Dr. Khosak Achawakorn Director of International College, Aj Montri Polyiam Associate Dean of School of Liberal Arts, SPU Chonburi campus, extended a warm welcome and had a meeting with the delegation from Guizhou University led by Prof. Ren Gangjian - Vice Chairman of University Affairs Committee, and his associates; Prof. Cui Haiyang - Executive Vice Dean of ASEAN Research Institute, and Dr. Zhang Chengxia (Nancy) - Executive Vice Dean of College of International Education. This visit has not only strengthened the institutional relation- ship but also created new projects and collaborations between the two institutions as the strategic partners which include Chinese short course at Guizhou, and the dual degree program in Chinese for Business Communication, Tourism Management as well as the doctoral degree program in Public Administration and Education Management. SPU Welcomed the Delegation from Vancouver Film School, Canada Led by the Assistant to the President for International Affairs - Aj. Chinda Tejavanija Chang, SPU Executives and faculty members including Dean of School of Digital Media - Dr. Kamon Jirapong welcomed the delegation from Vancouver Film School in Canada; Mr. Richard Appleby - the Founder, and Mr. Diwakar Gandhi - Director-International Business Development, on 4 November. Vancouver Film School (VFS) one of the top film schools in Canada, has been successful in offering 13 world-class post-secondary programs that prepare students for professional careers in the film industry. Their visit to SPU was to discuss the potential collaboration between the two institutions, and many great ideas were shared in the meeting especially in the field of Animation and Visual Effects.
2 Potential Academic Collaboration with California Baptist University, USA Assistant to the President for International Affairs - Aj. Chinda Tejavanija Chang had a meeting with Dr. Larry Lineman - Vice President for Global Initiatives, and Dr. Franco Gandolfi Dean of Business School from California Baptist University (CBU) in USA on 11 November. Along with other SPU faculty members; Dr. Sutthiporn Chinnapha - Head of International Business Communication Program, Dr. Boonyarat Samphanwattanachai Head of Media and Marketing Communication program, and Aj. Sira Satayapaisal Dept. of Logistics and Supply Chain Management, the meeting went well with fruitful discussion about collaborative activities to be initiated in the near future. The 2 institutions agreed to develop business programs together both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Besides, there is a possibility of inviting faculty members from CBU to SPU as Visiting Professors, and also organizing the study abroad program for CBU students to study in Thailand at SPU. SPU-SCU Joint Workshop With the MOU signed between the 2 institutions since 2012, Seoul Cyber University and Sripatum University have continuously initiated and created joint projects and academic collaborative activities. This academic year on 20 November, Dr. Vorasuang Duangchinda, Director of the Office of Online Education extended a warm welcome to Executives of Seoul Cyber University and ASEAN Cyber University during their visit to SPU in the morning before the start of a one-day workshop entitled SPU-SCU joint workshop : Transformation of Korean Education: World s number 1 in traditional and online education with the opening speech delivered by Aj. Kitikul Punsri Assistant to the President for Human Resource Management. The objectives of this workshop are to share with SPU Executives and staff with the strategies in driving Education sector as well as to strengthen the partnership between the 2 universities.
3 SPU English Camp with Royal Police Cadet Academy Sripatum University in association with the Royal Police Cadet Academy, under the coordination of the Immigration Division 1 Office, organized a 3-day English camp from 1-3 November in Nakhon Pathom. This program was created to develop students skills and capacities, especially for the cadets to practice their English communication with SPU students. The participants of 61 students included international students from Sripatum international college, students from School of Liberal Arts, and students from the Royal Police Cadet Academy. The program started with the visit of faculty members and students from the Royal Police Cadet Academy to Sripatum University campus on the first day, with a warm welcome from SPU faculty members and students led by Dr. Khosak Achawakorn, Director of Sripatum International College, followed by the ice-breaking session, the campus tour and many fun activities before moving to the Royal Police Cadet Academy in Nakhon Pathom. At the camp, students had the great opportunity to take advantage and enjoy all activities such as martial arts training, game stations, as well as field trips, which provided them not only the benefits on language proficiency and cultural exchange, but also a chance in making friends among students from different countries and culture from the two institutions.
4 Moving Towards Asean Plus 3 ASEAN Youth Leadership Development Office of Higher Education Commission organized a 4-day program of ASEAN Youth Leadership Development from 13-16 November at Sida Resort in Nakhon Nayok. On this occasion, Ajarn Surachai Suantubtim, Assistant to the Director of the Office of International Relations, led four students from Sripatum International College; Miss Peangrutai Krisintu, Mr. Pattaranun Jongnush, Miss Supaporn Supadvivatphan, and Miss Nitchakarn Auschaitrakool, to participate in the program along with other students from other higher education institutions in Thailand. This program aimed at preparing Thai Youth for up-coming ASEAN Community, encouraging them to realize the impact of ASEAN integration, and realize the advantage of being ready for the community. During the program, the students enjoyed the activities which were arranged to strengthen their capacity to contribute to the ASEAN Community, while their leadership potential has also been developed through participation in a series of presentations and workshops. 65 th Anniversary of the Bilateral Relationship between Indonesia-Thailand On behalf of Sripatum University, Assistant to the President for International Affairs - Aj. Chinda Tejavanija Chang, and Director of Sripatum International College - Dr. Khosak Achawakorn, attended the opening ceremony of the 65thAnniversary of the Bilateral Relationship between Indonesia and Thailand. The ceremony was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in collaboration with Siam Society under Royal Patronage, and the event was held on Thursday 27 November at Siam Society under Royal Patronage Bangkok. The activities during the ceremony included press conference, cocktail reception, music performance, and mini exhibition. ASEAN Leaders Gather in Myanmar for a Historic Summit Reported by ASEAN Secretariat News - The Heads of State/Government of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) gathered in Myanmar s capital for the 25th ASEAN Summit which started on 12 November. The Summit took place at a critical juncture of ASEAN s history with just one year to go before the establishment of the ASEAN Community in 2015. During this Summit, the Leaders of ASEAN also engaged with the Heads of State/Government of China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, India, Australia, New Zealand, Russia and the United States. In this connection, the Summit was having an in-depth discussion on the future directions of the ASEAN Community beyond 2015. The Summit was expected to adopt the Nay Pyi Taw Declaration for the ASEAN Community s Post-2015 Vision. This document would serve as the basis for the formulation of a comprehensive post-2015 vision for ASEAN next year. Additionally, the Summit would adopt a Declaration on Strengthening the ASEAN Secretariat and Reviewing the ASEAN Organs, which aims to enhance the capacity, coordination and synergy of ASEAN institutions and mechanisms amidst the growing volume of Community building work and the fast changing regional landscape. At the Summit, regional and international issues of common interest and concern were on top of the agenda, especially those that had significant impact on peace and stability in the region such as the South China Sea issue. The Leaders would also adopt the ASEAN Joint Statement on Climate Change. Further, an important topic on the table was configuring the best approaches to position ASEAN strategically amidst the shifting regional landscape both in terms of geo-economics and geo-politics. ASEAN Leaders are expected to continue the ongoing discourse on enhancing ASEAN s centrality and credibility in the evolving regional architecture and engagement with external partners.
spu pride A Top Thinker as a Representative of Thailand Ms. Krittika Wirat, a 4th year student of the School of Architecture majoring in Interior Design, won the Grand Prize Award in the Architecture competition of Nippon Paint Young Designer Award, organized by Nippon Paint Company at Intercontinental Hotel Bangkok. This competition is to inspire interior design and architecture students to apply creativity and innovation in implementation of design. Under the topic Re: Think and Re: Create: Our Community, Our Home, this winning student received a scholarship of THB100,000 and a Mac Book Pro. Moreover, she also has been offered an opportunity to continuously participate, as a Thailand representative, in the Asia Regional competition held in Osaka, Japan. There will be other 9 country representatives joining this up-coming design competition. Congratulations! 5 Event Management for Senior Project BLACK MAGIC, a party celebration with Halloween theme was organized by the students of Sripatum International College in the evening of 14 November at Multi-purpose building, Sripatum University. As the significant learning outcome of the Senior Project Course, all 4th year students in the programs of International Hospitality Management are required to plan and organize a major event such as theme party, exhibition, cultural event or food festival. This course is aimed to encourage students responsibility, creativity, team-building spirit, organizing skill, problem solving, communication skill, marketing, administration, and budget preparation.
