NQF Ref 1198 Version 1 Page 1 of 6 National Certificate in Specialist Rescue (Rope Technician) (Level 3) Level 3 Credits 50 Purpose This qualification is designed for people in the emergency response industry who have a role in responding to rope rescue incidents, either in a paid or voluntary capacity. This may include personnel from a wide range of sectors, including Civil Defence, Fire Service, Police, Ambulance, community rescue, urban search and rescue, wilderness search and rescue, private companies, and industrial rope access companies. People awarded this qualification are able to demonstrate a range of knowledge and skills specific to specialist rope rescue operations as well as a range of broader vocationally relevant knowledge and skills. On successful completion of the Compulsory section and Elective A, people are able to demonstrate knowledge and skills in: rope rescue casualty rescue height safety practices coordinated incident management first aid health and safety incident management radio communication aircraft safety. Standards in elective sections B and C give flexibility to the qualification and allow the candidate to choose from a selection of civil defence, emergency services, and industrial rope access standards, with the balance of credits, if required, able to be selected from anywhere on the National Qualifications Framework. Where candidates wish to advance their skills and knowledge, gaining this qualification can act as a progression towards achievement of the National Certificate in Specialist Rescue (Rope Instructor) (Level 4) [Ref: 1200]. This qualification has some credits in common with the National Certificate in Specialist Rescue (Confined Space Technician) (Level 3) [Ref: 1199].

Compulsory All the standards listed are required. Elective A A minimum of one standard is required from each of Sets 1, 2, and 3. Elective B A minimum of 10 credits at level 3 or above is required from the specified subfields and/or domains. Elective C The balance of credits, if required, to meet the qualification s requirement for a minimum of 50 credits of which at least 40 credits are at level 3 or above, may come from anywhere on the National Qualifications Framework. Award of NQF Qualifications Credit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification. Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided in the Qualifications Authority Rules and Procedures publications available at www.nzqa.govt.nz/ncea/. Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions and retain their identification number (Id).
