PROFILE OF SPEAKERS District Judge Tan Boon Heng The State Courts of Singapore (Session 1: Civil Litigation) Tan Boon Heng is a District Judge of the State Courts. He also hears military cases at the Singapore Armed Forces General Courts Martial. Besides teaching Law of Evidence and Civil Procedure at the Singapore Management University s School of Law, he is the course coordinator, lecturer and tutor in Civil Litigation for the Singapore Bar Examinations. Boon Heng graduated with a LL.B. (Hons) from the National University of Singapore and LL.M from the University of California at Berkeley. Chong Yee Leong - Partner, Allen & Gledhill LLP (Session 1: Arbitration and Mediation) Yee Leong's primary area of practice is international arbitration specialising in the areas of energy, oil and gas, power and infrastructure projects in Singapore, Malaysia and the region. In practice for more than 23 years, Yee Leong is recognised as a leading international dispute resolution specialist in the Asia-Pacific region. He has been involved in a broad range of international arbitration, dispute boards and litigation matters representing diverse clients, including multi-national entities, consortiums, governments and other agencies throughout Asia. Yee Leong is consistently recognised as a leading arbitration expert by many legal publications. Amongst others, Chambers Global/ Asia Pacific (2013) notes that he is a "prominent figure in the region, thanks to his years of experience in countries such as Singapore, Malaysia and Laos" while Chambers Global/ Asia Pacific (2014) mentions him as "an active, 'very capable and well-known' international arbitration specialist." He is also on the panel of arbitrators for Singapore International Arbitration Centre, Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration and CIArb Presidential Panel of Arbitrator. Tan Chee Meng, SC - Deputy Managing Partner, WongPartnership LLP (Session 1: Criminal Litigation) Chee Meng is the Deputy Managing Partner of WongPartnership LLP. He was formerly a Deputy Public Prosecutor and Deputy Director of the Commercial Affairs Department. Chee Meng recently successfully defended Mr Ng Boon Gay, the former Director of the Central Narcotics Bureau in a corruption case. Chee Meng is recognised as one of the "Local Disputes Stars" in the inaugural edition of Benchmark Asia Pacific The Definitive Guide to the Leading Disputes Firms and Lawyers in the Region, 2013. He is commended in many legal publications.

Associate Professor Lee Pey Woan Associate Professor, Singapore Management University (Session 2: General Company Law) Associate Professor Lee Pey Woan teaches Company Law at Singapore Management University. She has published in the areas of company, contract and tort law in both local and international leading journals, and has contributed to local textbooks such as The Law of Torts in Singapore and The Law of Contract in Singapore. Pey Woan graduated with from King s College London and subsequently obtained the Bachelor of Civil Law from Oxford University. Prior to joining SMU, she was a legal counsel at Keppel Corporation Limited. Andrew Chan Partner, Allen & Gledhill LLP (Session 2: Restructuring and Insolvency) Andrew Chan is a Partner of Allen & Gledhill LLP. His practice encompasses commercial work, and he is a specialist in dispute resolution (especially arbitration), trusts and insolvency (corporate and personal). Andrew is consistently cited as a leading insolvency lawyer in The Legal 500 Asia Pacific, Chambers Asia- Pacific, Who s Who Legal, and IFLR1000. He is a fellow of the Insolvency Practitioners Association of Singapore and Vice-President of the Turnaround Management Association Singapore and South East Asia Ltd. From 2010 to 2013, Andrew served as a Chairman of the Insolvency Committee of Law Society. Andrew is the General Editor of Law & Practice of Corporate Insolvency and the co-author of Butterworths Annotations of The Singapore Bankruptcy Act and Law And Practice of Bankruptcy In Singapore and Malaysia. He is also Consultant Editor of Halsbury s Laws of Singapore volume on Insolvency. In 2011, he received the Minister for Law Outstanding Volunteer Award (the highest volunteer award for individuals given by the Ministry of Law Singapore) for providing expertise and helping shape insolvency practice in Singapore. Goh Yihan Associate Professor of Law, Singapore Management of University (Session 3: Contract) Goh Yihan is an Associate Professor at the School of Law, Singapore Management University. Yihan specialises in contract law and tort law. Among his many local and international publications, he is the co-author of Contract Law in Singapore (Kluwer, 2012) and a contributor to The Law of Contract in Singapore (Academy Publishing, 2012). His works have been cited by the High Court and Court of Appeal, before which he has appeared as amicus curiae separately. He also sits on the Board of the Singapore Institute of Legal Studies and is a Visiting Academic at Rajah & Tann LLP. Yihan was awarded the Singapore Academy of Law Merit Award in 2013 for his contributions to the development and advancement of Singapore law. Gary Chan - Associate Professor of Law, Singapore Management University (Session 3: Tort) Gary is Associate Professor of Law, School of Law, Singapore Management University. He graduated with an LL.B (Honours) from the National University of Singapore and obtained his LL.M from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. Gary is an Advocate and Solicitor of the Singapore Supreme Court and an Attorney & Counselor-at-law (New York). Prior to joining academia, he has served as Assistant Registrar of the Supreme Court, Magistrate of the Subordinate Courts of Singapore, Corporate Lawyer as well as in-house Legal Counsel.

Tang Hang Wu Professor and Director, Centre of Cross-Border Commercial Law in Asia, Singapore Management University; Consultant, TSMP Law Corporation (Session 3: Restitutions / Trust) Tang Hang Wu is a Professor at the School of Law, Singapore Management University and a consultant at TSMP Law Corporation where he co-heads the Trusts and Private Wealth practice. Hang Wu has published widely and his work has been relied on by all levels of the Singapore courts, the Royal Court of Jersey, the Caribbean Court of Appeal, the Federal Court of Malaysia, law reform committees in the Commonwealth, major textbooks and law journals. He has acted as Counsel both in the High Court and Court of Appeal on matters involving property, equity, trust, restitution and charities. In recognition of his expertise in Chancery work, Hang Wu was made an overseas member of the Chancery Bar Association of England and Wales, a country correspondent of Trusts and Trustees and a member of the STEP s Contentious Trusts and Estate Group. Chan Sing Yee - Partner, WongPartnership LLP (Session 4: Corporate Law / M&A) Sing Yee is a Partner in both the Corporate/Mergers & Acquisitions and Private Equity Practices. Her main practice areas are mergers and acquisitions, venture capital, corporate finance and general corporate law. Sing Yee is recommended as a leading practitioner in the 2015 edition of Asialaw Profiles The Guide to Asia-Pacific s Leading Domestic Law Firms and is described as a "rigorous and commercial lawyer who is quick and agile". Sing Yee graduated from the National University of Singapore. She is admitted to the Singapore Bar and to the Roll of Solicitors of England & Wales. Chiam Tao Koon Partner, Allen & Gledhill LLP (Session 4: Corporate Law / M&A) Tao Koon s main areas of practice encompass mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, joint ventures and private equity deals. He also advises on general corporate and commercial law, and has experience with varied commercial contracts including distribution, agency and consultancy agreements. Tao Koon is also accredited as an Associate Mediator of the Singapore Mediation Centre. Loh Wai Mooi Partner, Bih Li & Lee Wai Mooi graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1984 and was called to the Singapore Bar in February 1985. Wai Mooi and 4 others founded BIH LI & LEE. Wai Mooi has an extensive practice in Private Client Matters. She has acted in matters relating to custody, adoption and matrimonial disputes. She advises clients in family settlements, trusts, wills and estate planning. Probate and Administration is also an area of her practice. Wai Mooi is also a Child Representative.

Lim Tat Managing Partner, Aequitas Law LLP Lim Tat is the managing partner of Aequitas Law LLP. He has over two decades of experience in litigation, arbitration, adjudication, mediation and collaborative dispute resolution practices. He is an accredited mediator of various institutes in UK, Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore and a member of SMC s panel of collaborative family practitioners. He is passionate on the use of collaborative processes and interest-based approach to conflict and dispute resolution. Michelle Woodworth Partner, RHTLaw Taylor Wessing Michelle Woodworth is a Partner in RHTLaw Taylor Wessing's Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice. After more than 12 years in private practice with a focus on Matrimonial Law, Michelle served as a District Judge of the Subordinate Courts of Singapore (now the Family Justice Courts) in the Family & Juvenile Justice Division from 2010 to 2012 before joining the Law Society of Singapore, as Director and Head of their Representation and Law Reform Department from 2012 to 2014. Michelle returned to private practice in August 2014. Michelle is a Collaborative Family Practitioner and Associate Mediator (Matrimonial Mediation Scheme) with the Singapore Mediation Centre. She is also a member of the Law Society of Singapore s Family Law Practice Committee. Yap Teong Liang - Sole Proprietor, T L Yap & Associates Yap Teong Liang was called to the Bar of England and Wales (Middle Temple) in 1991 and admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in June 1992. After being admitted to the Singapore Bar, he joined a well known law firm where he became a partner and headed the matrimonial department in that firm from January 1996 to May 1997 when he left to become one of the founding partners of another law firm. On 10th June 2002, after 10 years of experience behind him, he set up his own law firm of M/s T L Yap & Associates, a boutique law firm specialising in Family Law. Teong Liang has extensive experience in civil litigation particularly in the area of Family Law where he specialises in. He is no stranger to representing high net worth and high profile clients, handling cases involving foreign marriages, cross border international jurisdictional and forum issues (Australia, China, France, Germany, United Kingdom, United States of America), complex child custody, care and control and access cases, child maintenance, maintenance for the wife, division of matrimonial assets and family violence. Raymond Yeo Sole Proprietor, Raymond Yeo Raymond is a returning overseas graduate having first been called to the English Bar in 1996. After gaining admission to the Singapore Bar, he started off his professional career handling a wide range of both civil and criminal cases. Raymond has since developed a specialist area of practice and he runs his own boutique law firm providing services in the area on Family and Matrimonial Law. He has been involved in a wide variety of cases ranging from maintenance trials to foreign divorces with complex cross border jurisdictional and forum claims. Raymond has also handled numerous cases concerning acrimonious custody disputes as well as division of assets of substantial value. Raymond is currently serving as Vice Chairman on the Family Law Practice Committee with The Law Society of Singapore. He is a volunteer at the Legal Clinic with the Family Court. He is a also an Associate Mediator with Singapore Mediation Centre as well as Accredited Mediator with Regent s University.

District Judge Sowaran Singh - The Family Justice Courts of Singapore Sowaran Singh is a District Judge of the Family Justice Courts. Sowaran graduated with a LL.B. (Hons) from the University of Singapore. He is married with 2 grown up sons. He has a a granddaugher who is 7 years old and a grandson who is 10 years of age. Chow Kok Fong (Session 6: Construction Law) Chow Kok Fong is a Chartered Arbitrator and currently practices as a mediator, arbitrator and adjudicator. He has been appointed to arbitration tribunals under ICC Rules and Rules of the SIAC as well as Dispute Adjudication Boards. Mr Chow spent 38 years in the construction industry which included appointments as Chief Executive Officer of Changi Airports International, Managing Director of Capitaland Commercial Ltd and Director of Projects of City Developments Ltd. Prior to joining the private sector he was Chief Executive and General Manager of the Construction Industry Development Board (now the Building and Construction Authority). He is Founder President of the Society of Project Managers and Past Chairman of the Society of Construction Law. Currently, he is on the board of the Singapore Mediation Centre and is Chairman of the Construction Adjudicators Accreditation Committee. He has also held adjunct professorial appointments with a number of institutions including the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University. Between 1989 and 1998 he had served as an occasional consultant to the World Bank on various construction industry development assignments. He is author of 13 books including the two volume work Law and Practice of Construction Contracts (4th edition 2012), Security of Payments and Construction Adjudication (2nd Edition 2013) and Construction Contracts Dictionary (2nd Edition forthcoming). Earlier this year he co-authored Adjudication of Construction Disputes in Malaysia (2014). Paul Sandosham - Partner, Clifford Chance Asia (Session 6: Construction Law) Paul Sandosham specialises in dispute resolution, focusing on litigation and international arbitration in the power, energy, oil & gas, infrastructure, construction, engineering, natural resources, mining and commodities sectors. Paul advises clients on disputes on a multitude of different projects in various countries including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Lao PDR, Philippines, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, KSA, Mauritius, Maldives, China and Papua New Guinea. He acts as counsel in court, and in international arbitration proceedings under various arbitration rules (ICC, UNCITRAL, SIAC, DIAC, ADCCAC etc.) seated in several jurisdictions. Paul is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and Singapore Institute of Arbitrators and is regularly appointed as sole arbitrator or tribunal chairman. Ameera Ashraf - Partner, WongPartnership LLP (Session 7: Competition Law) Ameera heads the Competition & Regulatory Practice of WongPartnership LLP. Ameera actively advises on a full range of competition issues, including merger control, cartel investigations and restrictive practices, abuse of dominance and compliance programmes. She is recommended as a leading competition lawyer by various publications and has been described in Chambers Asia-Pacific as fantastic in giving strategic direction and providing very sound judgement. She holds a Master of Arts in EC Competition Law from King's College, University of London. Ken Chia Principal, Baker & McKenzie.Wong & Leow (Session 7: Competition Law) Ken Chia s practice covers IT, telecommunications, e-commerce, intellectual property, commercial and competition work. He has advised clients on various merger control filings in Singapore, an appeal on a price-fixing cartel to the Singapore Competition Appeal Board, and regional compliance audits for several banks and MNCs in Singapore and Malaysia. Lee Jwee Nguan Director, Legal and Enforcement Division, Competition Commission of Singapore (Session 7: Competition Law) Jwee Nguan, as the Director of the Legal and Enforcement Division at the Competition Commission of Singapore ( CCS ), supervises the legal officers and the enforcement officers at CCS. He provides advice on legal, enforcement and policy matters to the Commission, and oversees the investigation of cases as well as the conduct of raid and intelligence operations. Jwee Nguan joined the Singapore Legal Service after graduating from the National University of Singapore in 2001. In 2008, under a post-graduate Legal Service Commission Scholarship, he obtained Master of Law degrees from the National University of Singapore as well as the New York University. He has also read and obtained a post-graduate diploma in EU Competition Law from the King s College, London. Gerald Singham Partner (Corporate and Competition Law Practice Group), Rodyk & Davidson LLP (Session 7: Competition Law) Gerald Singham is a partner in Rodyk & Davidson s LLP Corporate and Competition Law Practice Group. Gerald s practice covers competition law and he has experience advising a broad range of industries on competition law matters.
