100 Years of Anzac A Symbol of National Pride The Anzac Centenary is a milestone of special significance to all Australians. The First World War helped define us as people and as a nation. Motivation The Logo is designed to motivate young and old, male and female, to feel proud of the people and the spirit that helped forge our national identity. The Anzac Centenary Logo is the symbol that recognises, identifies and commemorates the one hundred years since the First World War. The Logo has been designed to encapsulate the unique qualities that forged the spirit of Anzac and gave birth to our national identity: courage, mateship, sacrifice, generosity, freedom and a fair go for all. Its design also honours all the men and women who have served our nation in uniform over the past one hundred years. Their diligence has kept the Anzac spirit alive and ensured it is just as relevant to Australia today as it was during the First World War. Inspiration The Logo is designed to inspire all Australians to help ensure that this important legacy is passed down to future generations and never forgotten. Identity The Logo is designed to resonate with all Australians; to be uniquely Australian and still be understood widely by the different ages, genders, races and creeds in our community. These Guidelines have been created to help ensure this Logo becomes, and remains, a worthy tribute to the service and sacrifice of our past and current servicemen and servicewomen and the more than 102,000 who have given their lives for our nation. Please handle it with care; it has an important and multi faceted role to play. 100 YEARS OF ANZAC LOGO USAGE GUIDELINES 3

Protecting Our Logo This Logo will be the identifying symbol for the national Anzac Centenary Program 2014 2018. The Logo is a registered trade mark that is protected by law to preserve the integrity of the design and to ensure it is not misused in any way. Permission to use the Logo is not an endorsement of an event or initiative, but rather an acknowledgement that the event or initiative fits with the spirit of the Anzac Centenary commemorative program. Any individual or organisation seeking to use the Logo for any purpose must first obtain written authorisation from the Department of Veterans Affairs. The use of the word Anzac is protected by legislation. All applications for use of the Logo or word Anzac must be made in writing. For more information, please contact: Director, Anzac Centenary Policy and Programs Department of Veterans Affairs GPO Box 9998 Canberra ACT 2601 Phone: 133 254 Regional callers: 1800 555 254 International callers: 61 2 6289 1133 These Guidelines apply to authorised individuals and organisations. The use of the Logo for any purpose without obtaining prior written authorisation from the Department of Veterans Affairs will constitute trade mark infringement and breach Australian competition, fair trading and consumer protection laws. Authorisation to use the Logo does not imply endorsement of the aims or opinions of individuals and organisations, and does not express or imply a funding commitment from the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth reserves its right to modify this guide, the terms and conditions for use of the Logo, or to withdraw authorisation at any time. Email: anzaccentenarylogo@dva.gov.au For further information on the protection of the word Anzac, see: www.dva.gov.au/protectionofanzac 100 YEARS OF ANZAC LOGO USAGE GUIDELINES 4

The Logo Of all the images we identify with the ANZACs and Anzac Day, few have stood the test of time as the statue of the lone soldier; head bowed with arms reversed. This distinctive figure takes pride of place in the Anzac Centenary Logo, forming the 1 in the number 100, to clearly communicate the Anzac Centenary at a glance. The numbers and letters in the Logo are rendered in Futura, a geometric sans-serif typeface. Using this strong, clean, modern font in the design integrates the old with the new, the past with the present a visual expression of endurance that is also communicated in the accompanying line The Spirit Lives. This line forms an integral part of the Logo, along with the years that define the Centenary, 2014 to 2018. 100 YEARS OF ANZAC LOGO USAGE GUIDELINES 5

Community Use Authorisation to use the Logo does not imply endorsement of the aims or opinions of individuals and organisations, and does not express or imply a funding commitment from the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth reserves its right to modify this guide, the terms and conditions for use of the Logo, or to withdraw authorisation at any time. The Logo will be used to promote official Anzac Centenary 2014 2018 related events and initiatives, and subject to an application process, will be provided to individuals and organisations to acknowledge Anzac Centenary events and initiatives that fit with the spirit of the Anzac Centenary commemorative program. Organisations, communities and individuals can apply to use the Logo to promote Anzac Centenary related events and initiatives. The titles of these can be placed as a tagline beneath the logo. The preferred typeface is Futura (or visually equivalent font). The preferred font size is sub heading size as shown in Typography on page 15. Type colour should be black or the specified principal colour shown on page 14. Where a reversed style of logo is used the type should be white. The official Application Form can be found on the Anzac Centenary website: www.anzaccentenary.gov.au 100 YEARS OF ANZAC LOGO USAGE GUIDELINES 6

Community Use Your logo When used in combination with the logos of associated organisations, the Anzac Centenary Logo must be given equal prominence. Where possible, it should always sit on the right hand side. There should be a fine line separating the two elements from as per the examples on this page. Merchandising The Logo is for non-commercial purposes only and any use of the Logo for commercial gain or enterprise is strictly prohibited. The Anzac Centenary Logo cannot be used for merchandising purposes (unless approved by the Commonwealth) and any effort to do so, will be subject to prosecution. There will be a limited and appropriate range of Commonwealth approved Anzac Centenary merchandise and memorabilia available throughout the 2014 2018 commemorative period. 100 YEARS OF ANZAC LOGO USAGE GUIDELINES 8
