CALL FOR PAPERS International Education Conference on Small Island Developing States Seychelles 5 th 8 th July 2015 The education conference aims to bring together researchers academics, professionals, policymakers and educators from around the world to exchange knowledge, experience and discuss current issues, recent developments, techniques, challenges, theories and good practices in education in Small Island Developing States. We invite speakers to present their research on the theme of the conference either as a paper or as a poster. Topics may include, but are not limited to: Teacher education across all levels of education (pre-primary, primary, secondary and postsecondary) Leadership and management Teaching and assessment Medium of instruction Teaching and learning (pedagogical innovation) Technology-mediated instruction Transnational policy transfer Gender Research and development Curriculum content Subject- specific issues such as literacy& numeracy, sciences, applied sciences etc. Special Education and Remedial needs Education for Sustainable Development VENUE Our 2015 International Education Conference on Small Island Developing States will be hosted at the AVANI Hotel, Barbarons, Mahé, Seychelles. TYPES OF PRESENTATION Oral Presentation This is a lecture style presentation which may be supported by the use of visual material and hand-outs. Paper presentations should be kept to 20 minutes including time for questions. Poster Presentation Posters are for one-on-one discussion of a conference-related theme or topic. Materials for the presentation will be displayed on A0 size paper to the conference participants during the whole conference period. A block of time will be set aside to enable presenters to discuss their posters. The language for presentation, discussions and writing of abstracts shall be English. Guidelines for Poster Design Posters should be no larger than A0 size: 48 inches by 36 inches either landscape or portrait. They should contain an overview of the key elements of your teaching practice or research. It should include: o A problem statement, o context/literature review (optional), o the methodology used, o discussion of the data, o conclusion, and Page 2 of 5
o directions for further research Use appropriate accompanying graphics, tables or other relevant visuals to illustrate the main points, using colour where possible. Your poster should have a clear focus and be well organized. Keep the poster simple in terms of language and visually and avoid too much detail Choose a readable font, large enough to be read from about 1m away (titles/main headings from about 2m distance). Consider how your poster might encourage conversation. ABSTRACT SUBMISSION GUIDELINES Style Guidelines For proposal/ abstract, submissions should include: Title of presentation Four key words name of presenter (s) institutional affiliation mailing address, and email address for all authors. In the case of multi-authored communications, the main corresponding author should be designated and her/his contact details provided should not exceed 200 words in length bibliographical references at the end of abstract Submit your abstract electronically via email attachment to both email addresses below jemma.simeon@unisey.ac.sc or jemmasimeon@yahoo.com CONFERENCE PUBLICATION/PROCEEDINGS The Conference Proceedings will be produced after the conference. Proceedings will only include peerreviewed papers. Further details on how to submit full papers will be emailed to presenters following the conference. Papers submitted to the Conference without the author attending may be considered for inclusion in the Proceedings. A fee of 5 USD will be charged per full page. REGISTRATION PAYMENT The conference registration fee includes: Admission to conference 20 minute slot to present a paper which should ensure time for questions and answers. A conference participant pack Admission to tea and lunch breaks and one conference dinner Consideration of your paper for inclusion in the Island Studies Journal Publication in conference proceedings. Payments (s) for our 2015 International Education conference in Seychelles are as follows: Presenter Rates Early Bird - USD 450.00 per person to present at the conference for payments on or before 15 th April 2015 Standard - USD 500.00 per person to present at the conference for payments received after 15th April 2015 Non-Presenter Rates USD 500.00 for non-presenters Please visit Seychelles Immigration and Civil Status Department website: http://www.ics.gov.sc, to verify if you need a travel visa before paying the registration fee. Methods of Payment Please pay the registration fee by bank transfer. For both domestic and international bank transfers, the local bank charges for the remittance are to be paid by the registrant. IMPORTANT: So we may easily identify your payment, please send an email to jemma.simeon@unisey.ac.sc or jemmasimeon@yahoo.com with a scanned copy of the bank transfer receipt attached to the email after making the payment, both international and domestic. Your email should contain the information listed below: Conference Your name Participation type (Presenter, Audience) Type of registration you intend to purchase (early bird, standard, non-presenter, presenter from SADC) We will send you confirmation as soon as we have received the official receipt from the bank. TERMS AND CONDITIONS Payment by Bank Transfer When paying by bank transfer the name of the presenter/participant must be included in the transaction details and payment received by the University of Seychelles within 14 days of registering, otherwise registration will be cancelled and details removed from the conference programme. Visas/Confirmation of Conference Participation Letters confirming participation in the conference (e.g. for the purpose of obtaining visas) will only be issued once the participant has registered and paid. Withdrawal from the Conference Participants who withdraw from the Conference should notify the events team by email to jemma.simeon@unisey.ac.sc or jemmasimeon@yahoo.com. Cancellation/ Refund Policy If participants and speakers cancel their registration before 15 th June 2015, the fee will be refunded after deductions due to money transfers and administrative cost. There will be no refunding for cancellation after June 2015 or non-attendance.
