Welcome to Math 7 Accelerated Courses (Preparation for Algebra in 8 th grade) Teacher: School Phone: Email: Kim Schnakenberg 402-443- 3101 kschnakenberg@esu2.org Course Descriptions: Both Concept and Application Courses: Focus will be on the State Standards or Essential Learnings for 7 th grade students (attached) as well as preparation for taking Algebra in 8 th grade. Concepts: Applications: Instruction, practice, and testing over the State Standards (Essential Learnings). Reteaching, extension, and application opportunities over the Essential Learnings. Renaissance Math computer program will be utilized for remedial, grade level, and above grade level math practice. (AC Math). Extra time for math instruction. Grading: Concepts Class: Grades will be weighted as follows - Summative Assessments count for 80% of the student s academic grade. *Chapter Tests - Includes 2 to 3 essential learning scores per test - I marked the **Essential Learnings** on the attached syllabus *Cumulative Tests - Used to assess retention and/or relearning of prior units tested - Improved scores can be used to replace previous Essential Learning scores Formative Assessments count for 20% of the student s academic grade. *Daily homework (extremely important to complete for feedback) *Quizzes (2 per chapter) Applications Class: Grades will be weighted as follows *Completing required AC Math objectives will account for 50% (goal for objective mastery will be set each week) *Individual and/or team class work will account for 50%

Additional Information: *Late work will be accepted up until the cumulative test over the section it came from. Can only earn up to 80%. *Weekly assignments/schedule will be sent via email through Powerschool each Monday. *Your students have an enormous amount of resources provided to them through math curriculum found at bigideasmath.com. Video tutorials, flash cards, games, practice quizzes, and practice tests are just to name a few. Have your student show you what exciting material is available! Please don t hesitate to email or call if you have any questions or concerns. Looking forward to working with your student this school year! Helpful Definitions * Summative Assessments = Assessments OF Learning: Assessments used to determine how much students have learned at a particular point in time in order to report achievement status. * Formative Assessments = Assessments For Learning All activities done by teachers and their students that provide information to be used as feedback: - to adjust instruction to support additional learning - to guide and support student learning - to support the closing of gaps in learning
