Boruchowitz is Professor from Practice and Director of The Defender Initiative at Seattle University School of Law. Before joining the faculty in January, 2007, he was Director of The Defender Association in Seattle for 28 years. He has appeared at every level of state and federal court. He was co-author of a NACDL publication, "Minor Crimes, Massive Waste: The Terrible Toll of America's Broken Misdemeanor Courts". Founding president of the Washington Defender Association and a former member of the Executive Committee of the American Council of Chief Defenders, he has been instrumental in developing defender standards in Washington and nationally. He founded the Racial Disparity Project at The Defender Association. He has taught in the Youth Advocacy Clinic and among other projects has pursued due process rights for children in truancy proceedings. He has taught criminal procedure and a seminar on Right to Counsel, Law and Lawyering. He attended a two weektraining for law teachers at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum and he developed a seminar on Law and the Holocaust and the Abuse of Executive Power. He was a Soros Senior Fellow working on access to counsel in misdemeanor and juvenile cases. He worked for three years on a similar project supported by grants from the Open Society Foundation, working in Kentucky, South Carolina, and New Hampshire as well as in Washington. He was a co-chair for an American Bar Association project to provide public defender training in four regions of the country. Previously, he was the Federal Public Defender for the Northern District of New York. He was twice reappointed to additional four-year terms. In 1995, before relocating to New York, he established and managed the federal defender organization in the Southern District of Alabama in Mobile. He also provides technical assistance to state and local governments to help increase public safety and make more efficient use of state and local taxpayer dollars. Before joining the CSG Justice Center, he was a Senior Research Associate with the JFA Institute. Between 1984 and 2003, he worked with the Texas Criminal Justice Policy Council, and was appointed by Governor Ann Richards to head this state research and evaluation agency in 1991. He continued to serve as Director under Governor George W. Bush and Governor Rick Perry. During Dr. Fabelo s tenure on the Council, he advised five governors from both sides of the aisle. He has also assisted every legislature since 1985 in developing criminal justice policies, including crafting the major justice reinvestment initiative adopted by the Texas legislature in 2007. The U.S. Attorney General appointed him to the Office of Justice Programs Science Advisory Panel in 2010. In 2012, Dr. Fabelo was selected to serve in the National Academy of Sciences panel on the Cause and Consequences on High Incarceration Rates, which will issue a national report in 2014 on this subject. He received his B.A. in Political Science from Loyola University, and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. She has been practicing criminal law for 26 years and is licensed in both Texas and Florida. Early in her legal career, Lynn worked as an associate for the law firm of Haygood, Williams, Rose and Olds concentrating on criminal and family law, insurance defense, and civil litigation. She later opened her own criminal defense firm and served as a criminal conflict attorney for the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit. In Texas, Lynn has worked as an Assistant Public Defender for the last 18 years starting as a felony trial attorney. She was later promoted to Misdemeanor Supervisor responsible for hiring, training and supervising all misdemeanor level attorneys in the office. She served as First Assistant to the Chief Public Defender for eight years and twice served as Interim Chief. She was appointed Chief Public Defender by the Dallas County Commissioners in 2008. As an early advocate of legal technology Mr. Sterling lead the effort to put computers on the desk of every Missouri public defender and spearheaded the initial design and development of the system s statewide caseload management program. The Special Master appointed by the Missouri Supreme Court to take evidence in the public defender caseload litigation described Mr. Sterling as the public defender's caseload guru. Mr. Sterling has worked extensively with caseload management and workload measurement tools. He is currently assisting in an ABA funded study by an independent certified accounting/consulting firm to create durable caseload standards for Missouri public defenders using data from an institutionalized time keeping system required of all employees. He attended the University of Cincinnati College of Law, obtaining his J.D. in May of 1981. Mr. Wilson has spent the majority of his career as a criminal lawyer serving the poor of his community. He began interning with the Colorado Public Defender system in 1981, moved into a position as a Deputy Public Defender in the Pueblo office in 1982, and was appointed Office Head of the Pueblo Office in 1992. He served the system in this position for 13 years, while simultaneously filling the role as a top litigator on many death penalty cases across the state. Mr. Wilson was appointed to the position of Chief Trial Deputy in January of 2005, where he worked until being appointed as the Colorado State Public Defender on November 1, 2006. Mr. Wilson was honored by the Public Defender System on two occasions for his steadfast service to his clients and his ongoing work in opposition to the death penalty. He received the prestigious David F. Vela Award in 1998 and was chosen as Attorney of the Year in 2001. Mr. Wilson also received the Jonathan Olom Award in 1999 for his dedication and continued work as a top criminal defense lawyer. Mr. Wilson has served as a member of the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar Association, Regional Chapter Ex-Officio Board Member since 1992. He has served as an Advisory Board Member of Coloradoans Against the Death Penalty. During his tenure as the Colorado State Public Defender, Mr. Wilson was awarded a certificate of completion from Harvard University for his participation in the Senior Executives in State and Local Government Program in July of 2008.
