Inspire The Best in Young Women As a globally-minded community, Queen Margaret s School provides an enriched educational experience that prepares young women for university, for higher education, for life. Our unique programs are centred on the ways young women grasp new concepts and build upon their ideas. Small class sizes allow teachers to work collaboratively and meet the needs of learners in a caring and personalized manner. Our academic program is rigorous and we challenge each student to excel. All students are expected to meet the requirements established by the BC Ministry of Education as well as take credit-granting courses in Leadership, Languages and Physical Education. We offer Advanced Placement classes in Mathematics, the Humanities and Fine Arts. Personal organization, study skills and responsibility are fostered and progress is acknowledged. Regular field trips and outdoor education opportunities offer experiential learning outside the classroom. Students thrive when expectations are high, opportunities are abundant and thoughtful teaching practices allow each student to realize their potential.
Connect with Open Communication We recognize that a partnership between parents and the school is essential to the success of our students. To facilitate ongoing communication, your daughter is assigned a Advisor (FA) who follows her progress throughout her program at QMS. The connections built between our FAs and their advisees create open and approachable communication for both students and their parents. Families will receive detailed and personalized school reports four times a year. Parents are welcomed on campus to participate in events, projects and fundraisers through the school and our Parents Association. Create through Fine Arts At Queen Margaret s School, students can express themselves through art, drama, choir, band and orchestra. Visual arts cultivate creativity using two- and three-dimensional materials, photography and design software. Specialist teachers in all fine arts subjects inspire students to hone their skills and perform with confidence. Optional private instrumental and vocal lessons are also available on campus. Artistic talents are showcased on and off campus through concerts, assemblies, festivals, talent shows, pageants and a week-long spring celebration of the arts. An optional Advanced Placement (AP) Studio Art program allows preparation for entry into domestic and international schools of art, design, and architecture. Our faculty and staff recognize the commitment of highly ambitious athletes and performers. We work with our students to balance their demanding external athletic or performance schedules and their academic life.
Balance Body and Mind Skill development, teamwork and responsibility for personal wellness are foundations of life-long health. In addition to Physical Education classes led by specialist teachers, The Royals athletic teams compete on and off campus. Swimming, running clubs and golf are offered seasonally. Classes in yoga, pilates, cross-training and other fitness programs provide individual options for young bodies and minds. As Canada s Equestrian High School, students have the unique option to ride in their school day. Students may ride a school horse or choose to board their horse at the school. On riding days, students attend classes in their riding clothes. Personal lesson plans are created for each rider to allow her to follow Equine Canada rider levels. In addition to riding, stable management and equine care are integrated into our on-campus program.
Soar in a Caring Residence Community For girls entering Grades 6 to 12 who wish to live on campus, Queen Margaret s School offers a welcoming and nurturing residence environment that is steps from the classrooms and the equestrian centre. The sharing of culture, interests and experiences encourages connections between students, teachers, coaches and staff. At Queen Margaret s School, lifelong friendships are made. Daily life for approximately 5 girls is supported by an in-house nurse, counselor and travel coordinator. Residence staff are on duty 24 hours, seven days a week. Most dormitory rooms are shared by two girls. Each hallway of rooms has a unique name and an overseeing House Mom. Boarding and day students are integrated into an environment rich in languages, celebrations and traditions from around the world. Embrace Canadian Culture and English Language A personalized English Language Learner (ELL) Program is available for students who are new to studying in English. Intensive ELL classes enhance reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. The timetable is blended with regular classes in other subject areas to help students integrate quickly into the full English program.
