Logging Systems Review by SeMiFOT EU SAFER DAS, CTAG Logger,, www.driverecorder.co.uk, Octo Telematics Clear Box (PAYD), Fiats EcoDrive (USB), Vehco Co-Driver, X-Driven, Event Data Recorders (EDR) US DriveCam, SmartDrive, Transecurity SHRP2 logger, Transecurity MiniDAS, UMTRI DAS, Volvo Link Sentry, XATANET, Alltrack USA Japan Many electronics companies have drive-recorders, very common, e.g. Fijutsu Ten DREC1000, Clarion DriveEye SAFER-JARI project Other GreenRoad (Israel) T-eye ADR3000 (Korea) RoadScan (Korea) Most systems record data only when acceleration threshold exceeded Most systems do not connect to vehicle network Aftermarket products easily installed by the driver Drive Recorder Comparison Websites (EU, Japan) e.g. www.driverecorder.co.uk

SeMiFOT1 Tech Achievements ~3000h collected from 14(+2) vehicles 4 OEMs + 1 supplier vehicles instrumented DAS with: 6 video, CAN, eye tracking, GPS, accelerometer, lane tracking, status upload/check etc Data uploaded in same database with access restrictions (6Tb) Analysis tool with annotation and video/data sync Estimated 89% of the collected data was usable (i.e. elligible) for analysis A lot of experience and lessons learned! Swedish DAS in EuroFOT PC (Intel Atom CPU, 1.6 GHz) Video grabber card (MPEG4 hardware compression, PCI, internal to the PC) CAN-interfaces (USB, external to the PC) Eye tracker (Ethernet and CAN) BLIS interface (digital input to PC). Cars only. Accelerometer (CAN). GPRS/3G modem (PCI, internal to the PC). GPS receiver (internal to the PC). Combined GPRS/3G and GPS antenna. 16 GB Compact Flash memory for primary data storage. 500 GB HDD for secondary data storage. Extra relay to minimize power consumption in off mode. Cars only. Four cameras. Two IR illuminators (feet + driver). Cable harnesses. Mounting brackets.

DAS - Lessons Learned Do not underestimate time for informed design decisions, implementation and testing Avoid hardware development always have backup Know your priorities method devel. or data collection Off-the-shelf non-automotive equipment performs rel. well Installation takes longer than expected Quality check in several steps from analysts Continuous recording why? No ultimate Crash Relevant Event trigger available Exposure and baseline needed for system evaluation as well as many driver behavior studies
We need video - why? Validation of candidate CREs Validate scenario implementations etc Estimate driver state and gaze directions 6 cameras Continuous data collection at 10Hz 700Mb/h End
SeMiFOT2 WP1 Development of quantative definitions of crash-relevant-event severity Will provide quantitative definitions of Crash-Relevent Review of existing methods Similar aim as FOTNET2 WG CRE Severity is comprised of 1) measures of crash risk and 2) measures of injury risk Crash risk severity measure - Traffic Conflict Theory (e.g. TTA) Injury risk severity measure AIS similar (crash type, road user type, relative speed)
