ICE.TCP Pro Update Installation Notes Important Note: Based on customer comments, we are providing these revised installation instructions. They supercede the instructions in the manual. For previous users of ICE.TCP, this installation is significantly different. Please read carefully. Overview of the Install Procedure ICE.TCP Pro provides a new network install procedure as well as improved installation for machines not on a Windows network. The network install enables you to deliver pre-configured installations to your clients' PC s. It also provides centralized information about the PC's on which the software is installed. *** Note: J. River, Inc. recommends that you back up the License and the Data folders. These folders can be found in C:\Program Files\J River\ICETCP5 Server\TCP5_User. These two folders hold the previously configured profiles and the previously installed user-list. Both folders are small enough to fit on a floppy diskette. After following the procedure below for the Server and the User install, please copy the folders back into the same directory. There are two components to the ICE.TCP Pro installation, Server Install and User Install. One Windows 95/98/NT/ME/2000/XP machine on your network must be used as the "Server" (see definition below). PC s that require ICE.TCP Pro can install it over the network from this Server PC. Alternatively, they may install from the CD and configure from the Server PC or from a floppy (see Advanced CD Installation below). Note that much of the installation work has moved to the Server Install. This means that while the Server Install may take extra steps, these steps save considerable time during User Install. Server Installation Definition: The "server," also referred to as the "admin PC, is a Windows 95/98/NT/ME/2000/XP PC that can share ICE.TCP Pro files across a Windows network for other PC s to install from. It is a "software" server on a shared drive and not a hardware or a UNIX server. License and other configuration information are centrally managed on this server. The administrator performs the Server Install on a Windows 95/98/NT/ME/2000/XP PC from the ICE.TCP Pro CD. After installation, a valid license key must be entered into the LicenseAdmin program. A User Install can then be performed on the Server PC and from other networked PC s. If you perform a User Install on the Server PC, you can customize our program for your network and save those settings as the defaults for all subsequent user installs. Step 1 Get a License Key In order to use ICE.TCP Pro, you must obtain a license key. This key can be obtained from http://portage.jriver.com Once this form is submitted, an Activation Key will be e-mailed to you at the address 1

you provide. You also have the option of obtaining an Activation Key via fax with the form enclosed with the CD. Step 2 Perform the Server Install Any Windows 95/98/NT/ME/2000/XP computer accessible to other network users can be used as the ICE.TCP Pro Server. When you insert the ICE.TCP Pro CD, the autorun feature (if enabled on your CD drive) will start and may take up to 30 seconds. Alternatively, you may start it from Windows by choosing Start, Run, and then [CD- ROM drive letter]:\setup. Choose Server Install and accept the defaults. This sets up folders and copies files to the ICE.TCP Pro Server. The Server Install procedure provides optional components (Internet Explorer and Adobe Acrobat). If you select these optional components, these programs are placed in the \Program Files\J River\ICETCP5 Server\TCP5_User directory from where they can be installed on other PC's. Note: A Web browser is required to access the online help of ICE.TCP Pro. Internet Explorer 6.0 is the latest version of Microsoft s Web browser. Adobe Acrobat allows you to access files that are in.pdf format. We include both.pdf and.html versions of our manual with each user installation of ICE.TCP Pro. When the ICE.TCP Pro Server software is installed, two folders are created: TCP5 Admin, containing administrative programs, and TCP5_User, containing the folders and files needed for client installation. Step 3 Enter Licensing Information Using the Windows 95/98/NT/ME/2000/XP click on Start > Programs > ICE.TCP Admin > LicenseAdmin. In the LicenseAdmin dialog box, copy and paste the Company Name and License Key (activation key) exactly as they appear in the e-mail or fax you received from J. River, Inc. Step 4 Perform a User Install on the Server PC Run setup.exe from the \Program Files\J River\ICETCP5 Server\TCP5_User directory. Setup will provide the option of installing either the 5.1 or 4.4 versions of ICE.TCP Pro. By default, Setup installs the ICE.TCP Pro programs in the C:\Program Files\J River\ICETCP5 directory, and then automatically runs the configuration program called ConfigWizard. ConfigWizard performs the following functions: 1. Obtains a sequence number from LicenseAdmin 2. Selects a default configuration profile Checkboxes are provided to activate/deactivate each task. For this initial user install, the first two options must be selected. DO NOT Select Configure Microsoft TCP/IP if you have a network in place. Next, select the defaults for the following screens. You 2

must select the Default profile to complete the installation. Reboot when prompted. Step 5 Customize ICE.TCP Pro for the Users on Your Network Open Telnet Pro and click Profiles > Organize Profiles, select Default, and then click Add to create a custom profile for your network. Double-click on the newly created profile to modify the terminal type, color combinations and other options to fit your network. Click OK to save the profile. Next, click on Export. This customized file will be used during all subsequent installs. Give it an appropriate name (such as sales or marketing) and save it in C:\Program Files\J River\ICETCP5 Server\TCP5_User\Data. The files that are located in this directory are the configuration profile options that will be presented as options in ConfigWizard for all subsequent user installs. You may create and save multiple profiles. Step 6 Share the TCP5_User Folder To make the TCP5_User folder accessible for network client installation, it must be shared. In the Windows Explorer, find the TCP5_User folder (the default location is C:\Program Files\JRiver\ICETCP5 Server\TCP5_User) and right click on it. In the pop-up menu, select Sharing, which displays a properties dialog box for configuring a shared folder. Click on the Shared As to share the folder. Use the default Share Name, TCP5_User. The Shared Name is the name other network users will see when they access the directory during the network User Install. For the Access Type setting, select Full. When the TCP5_User folder is shared, it displays the name entered in the Share Name field. The User version of ICE.TCP Pro can now be installed on machines on your network by following these User Install instructions: User Installation: Networking Available Recommended for PC's on the same network. Please see the sample user instructions at the end of this document. Step 1 Install ICE.TCP Pro From the Server PC Using Network Neighborhood or Start > Find > Computer, double-click on the Admin PC icon. Run the install by double-clicking on setup or setup.exe. *If you are running Windows for Workgroups on the user PC, open File Manager, go to the Drive menu and select Connect Network Drive. Click on the icon representing the Server PC, select the TCP5_User folder and click OK. In the next dialog box, do not select reconnect at login. Open the newly mapped network drive and run setup.exe. The install gives you the option to install version 5.1 or version 4.4 on a Windows 95/98/NT/ME/2000/XP PC and 4.4 only on a Windows for Workgroups PC. If you are running Windows 3.1, please contact J. River. Step 2 Configure ICE.TCP Pro Using ConfigWizard ConfigWizard is run automatically at the end of the install. The user must select the first two options available; obtain a sequence number and select a configuration profile. Reboot the computer when prompted to do so. 3

Note: ICE.TCP Pro s administrative programs automatically assign and keep track of sequence numbers for User PCs. ConfigWizard uses LicenseAdmin s configuration files to obtain an available sequence number. User Installation: Networking Unavailable This is recommended when Windows networking is unavailable. Overview of the Install Procedure The installation procedure described above requires that each user PC has network access to the Admin PC. If this is not the case, the following steps illustrate how to install ICE.TCP Pro on remote user machines. Step1 Export License Information for the Remote PC s Open LicenseAdmin on the Server PC (under Start/Programs/ICE.TCP Admin). Select the Users tab and click on the Add User button. This will assign the next available sequence number to the user that you specify. Under the computer name column, enter the official Windows networking name of the remote PC. Under the User Name column, enter the person s name that will be using remote PC. Repeat for each remote license required. Next, select each remote license assigned by holding the control key while left clicking on each entry. Insert a blank floppy disk and press the export button. Click OK on the next dialog box to export to the floppy disk. Step 2 Copy the Required Server PC Files to Export Floppy Copy ConfigWizard.exe from \Program Files\J River\ICETCP5 Server\TCP5_User\TCP-PRO to the floppy disk (for version 5.1). Also, copy the Data folder from \Program Files\J River\ICETCP5 Server\TCP5_User\ to the floppy disk. Step 3 Run the User Install At the PC on which you will install the software, run setup.exe from the User Install Files folder of the ICE.TCP Pro CD. At the end of the install procedure, a dialog box will open that asks for the location of ConfigWizard. Insert the export floppy and choose the floppy drive (A:) in the dialog box. ConfigWizard will then be run from the floppy to complete the install. Reboot the computer when prompted to do so. When you are finished, you must transfer the Data and Licenses folders back to the server and re-share the drive. J. River Technical Support Technical Support is available by calling 612-677-8200, via fax at 612-339-4445, through email at support@jriver.com, or on the Internet at www.jriver.com/techsupport.
