Installing a printer in Windows 95. Click on Start - Settings - Printers In the Printers Folder double click on the Add Printer Icon Click on the Next Button to start the installation process of your printer Choose what type of printer you are installing. Local (printer attached directly to your computer parallel port / LPT1) or Network (printer that is shared and will be used remotely by other users in the same office or building). Select Next Please note: On the next screen (as above) you have 2 options in installing the driver. Option 1- if Windows 95 already has a driver for your printer, just select the manufacturer and then the correct printer model from the list. Option 2, if you have a driver disk supplied to you on floppy disks, CD-ROM, or located on the network/standalone drive, select the Have Disk option. Option 1 Click on Next. Option 2 Click on Have Disk. The next screen will prompt for the printer driver files location. If you have the printer drivers on floppy disk(s), insert your floppy disk in drive A: and select OK follow onscreen instructions If your printer driver is on a CDROM select the browse button and locate the CDROM drive (see below) Printer installation guidance notes August 1999 Author Jacquie D Page 3 of 9
If your printer driver is on the network or on the local hard drive select the browse button (see below) When you have located the correct drive select OK Select OK again to confirm the printer driver location Select Next when you have confirmed that the printer displayed on your screen matches the one that you are installing. Please note: If there are more than one printer listed in the above box just highlight the correct one Select Configure Port. Confirm by selecting Yes that this will be the Windows default printer Select Finish. This will now install the printer driver. Please note if using an alternative printer driver than the one that is supplied with Windows 95 you may be prompted to agree to the license terms and conditions. This could be at the beginning or near the end of the printer driver installation. You will also have the opportunity to read it before agreeing to it. This is your choice. With some printer drivers you may be prompted to restart your computer for the new changes to take effect. If this is the case then you may be give a choice to restart the computer now or later. If you select Now you will be able to start using the printer after the computer has restarted.
