LAN KIT Software Installation for Star Diagnosis Compact II The LAN-KIT is used for incorporating the STAR DIAGNOSIS System into a network. This installation comprises the installation of hardware, described in the document Installation Instructions for LAN-KIT Upgrade and software, described in the document LAN-KIT Software Installation. The software installation may only be performed by the local system or network administrator. In addition to the network connection driver, the PCMCIA Ethernet adapter driver for the network card for Measurement Technology HMS990 is also preinstalled in the STAR DIAGNOSIS STATION and COMPACT units. Do not delete either of these two drivers. Always follow the installation instructions. If the installation instructions are not followed and if the information therein is not observe, costly repairs can be expected. If problems occur during installation, please contact the Call Center. 08/2003 DaimlerChrysler AG Seite 1 von 14

1. First Installation of the Network Card Start the Setup LAN / WLAN program via the Start menu: Start Programs Service Setup LAN_WLAN. 08/2003 DaimlerChrysler AG Seite 3 von 14
The window below appears: With the left mouse button click on [Install and configure network]. With the left mouse button click on [Yes]. The activation of the network takes a short time. 08/2003 DaimlerChrysler AG Seite 4 von 14
1.1 Activation of the INTEL Card To activate the INTEL card, click with the left mouse button on [Yes]. The activation of the INTEL card takes a short time. To install your own network card, click on [No]. Continue with the installation starting from 1.1.2 Installation of Your Own Network Card. The computer restarts automatically. 08/2003 DaimlerChrysler AG Seite 5 von 14
1.2 Installation of Your Own Network Card (e.g. Wireless LAN Card) The window below appears: Install the driver for your network card in the Adapters section. The driver for your own network card must be located on the CD. The drive letter for the ThinkPad s CD drive is i:. Only use the resources below for the network card: IRQ = 9 I/O Port = 400h Memory Base = D400h 08/2003 DaimlerChrysler AG Seite 6 von 14
If your network card does not support these resources, you can determine which resources are still available using Windows NT self-diagnosis in the Star Utilities. However, please note that any reconfiguration kits, e.g. Measurement Technology Kit HMS990, are assigned to predefined resources and this will only be indicated after they have been activated. Therefore, conflicts may arise later when using resources other than those given above. (The wireless LAN card for MCC in Japan may be configured on the I/O Port = 240h, for example) Check/adapt the bindings in the Bindings section. The Ndis 3.1 HMS protocol driver for Measurement Technology HMS 990 may only have one binding to the PCMCIA Ethernet adapter. If this has been forgotten and the computer can no longer be started correctly, the old hardware profile must be loaded when rebooting. Note: Restart the ThinkPad after installing your network card driver. Only install the protocols that you need after restarting. Preinstalled network cards (PCMCIA Ethernet adapter for Measurement Technology HMS 990 and Intel(R) PRO/100+ MiniPCI for the network connection) must not be deleted. The computer must not be logged on to the domains. No changes may be made in the Identification section. 08/2003 DaimlerChrysler AG Seite 7 von 14
2. Protocol Installation The screen below appears after restarting: Install the network protocols in the Protocols section. The files necessary for the installation are located in the preset directory \en\i386\. Check/adapt the bindings in the Bindings section. 08/2003 DaimlerChrysler AG Seite 8 von 14
The following bindings should be set (Enable/Disable): (Display via all adapters) PCMCIA Ethernet Adapter only binding to NetBEUI Ndis 3.1 HMS Protocol Driver Intel(R) PRO/100+ MiniPCI binding to (if the card is used) TCP/IP WINS Client additional network card (e.g. wireless LAN card) binding to TCP/IP WINS Client The Ndis 3.1 HMS protocol driver for Measurement Technology HMS 990 may only have one binding to the PCMCIA Ethernet adapter. 08/2003 DaimlerChrysler AG Seite 9 von 14
Do not restart the ThinkPad after installing the protocols. Continue with point 1.3 Installation of the Service Pack. 08/2003 DaimlerChrysler AG Seite 10 von 14
3. Installation of the Service Pack With the left mouse button click on [Install service pack 6]. The service pack is installed automatically. The ThinkPad is restarted after the installation. 08/2003 DaimlerChrysler AG Seite 11 von 14
4. Re-installation of Network Cards or Protocols If a network card for the network connection is to be installed in the PCMCIA sockets of the shell or of the ThinkPad, please remove it and replace it with your card before carrying out the steps below. Start the Setup LAN / WLAN program via the Startmenü: Start Programs Service Setup LAN_WLAN. 08/2003 DaimlerChrysler AG Seite 12 von 14
The window below appears: With the left mouse button click on [Install and configure network]. The screen below appears if you have activated the INTEL card: To deactivate the INTEL card, click on [Yes]. You can now install your own network card. Continue with the installation starting from 1.1.2 Installation of Your Own Network Card. The computer restarts automatically. 08/2003 DaimlerChrysler AG Seite 13 von 14
In order not to deactivate the INTEL card and to change protocol settings, click on [No]. Continue with the installation starting from 1.2 Protocol Installation. The screen below appears if the INTEL card has not yet been activated: To activate the INTEL card, click on [Yes]. Continue with the installation starting from 1.1.1 Activation of the INTEL Card. The computer restarts automatically. In order not to activate the INTEL card, click on [No]. Continue with the installation starting from 1.1.2 Installation of Your Own Network Card or 1.2 Protocol Installation. Note: Only one network card for the network connection may be active at any one time. In other words, if you want to activate the INTEL card, you will first have to delete any additionally installed network cards. Likewise, only one additionally installed network card may be present. Preinstalled network cards (PCMCIA Ethernet adapter for Measurement Technology HMS990 and Intel(R) PRO/100+ MiniPCI for the network connection) must not be deleted. General information: After installing a PCMCIA network card, a message appears after restarting: At least one service or driver failed during system startup. Use Event Viewer to examine the event log for details This message can be acknowledged with OK and only occurs once. If this message appears after another restart, you must check your network settings. 08/2003 DaimlerChrysler AG Seite 14 von 14
